IC
Name: Karkat Vantas
Canon: Homestuck
Canon Point: End of Act 6 Act 6 Intermission 2
Age: 7.4 Alternian Solar Sweeps (16 Human Earth Years)

Personality:
While on the surface Karkat can be summed up as a rather simple, albeit angry individual, the truth of the matter is that his personality is much deeper and more complex than one would expect. The first thing that anyone will notice about Karkat is his consistent frustration with everyone and everything around him, adopting the style of a stereotypical raging internet troll in his usual speech, and isn't above supporting his arguments with what appears to be empty logic. He is rarely seen smiling, and is more common to be found screaming, pounding his fists on the keyboard as he types, and expressing his impatience with those he is dealing with. He has a knack for making even the friendliest of people's moods turn sour or even flip out in response to his insults, which are usually rich and imaginative in terms of colourful imagery (one such example being "YOU’RE LIKE A ROCKET PROPELLED SPAZ MAGGOT SPRINGLOADED UP THE ASS OF A PSYCHEDELIC FUCKING FREAKOUT WEASEL ON IDIOT DRUGS").

Despite the angry and harsh exterior that Karkat projects onto those around him, in reality he does care quite deeply for those he considers to be his friends. Karkat has been shown to cry more in the webcomic than any of the other trolls he is aligned with. He goes out of his way to help his friends when they are in need; he genuinely desires to helping Eridan and Tavros with their relationship problems, shows great concern for Terezi when she admits she regrets having her blindness cured and expresses her concerns with her relationship with Gamzee, and wished to ensure with Dave that they would still remain friends after they meet up with the other humans. Karkat is also one of the least violent trolls in his group, and often times when it comes down to intense times, he will either try to devise some kind of working plan that won't end with violence (calming Gamzee down out of his withdrawal rage, convincing Kanaya to not kill Gamzee, etc.) or straight up stand in shock at what just occurred before him (such as when Eridan went on his violent killing spree, slaying all in the room save for Karkat). For all his shortcomings when it comes to his social skills with others, Karkat is quite adept in shepherding others towards a particular goal. He was able to gather eleven other trolls with clashing personalities to follow his lead during their SGRUB session and led them to winning their game, thus creating the human universe. He is shown to be a an effective leader, and this has been acknowledged by some of the other trolls.

Like many of the other characters in the comic, Karkat has a particular typing quirk which defines himself when he speaks in an online chat. He speaks with perfect syntax, but types in all caps. Unlike the other trolls, whose font colours reflect their blood colour and thus their status in troll society, Karkat chooses to instead type in gray font, and even his symbol is the same gray colour. This is because Karkat's blood is bright red, like human blood, a unique mutation among trolls. In a society that places trolls into castes based on their blood colour (rust red, brown, and yellow being the lowest, olive, jade, and teal being middle-class, and blue, purple, and violet being royalty), Karkat's bright red blood places him off the spectrum completely. He is very ashamed of this blood and hides it fiercely, as mutants in troll culture are usually killed on sight. Karkat's blood colour becomes less of an issue after SGRUB, when most of the others discover his blood colour, but it is still something that is on his mind, and it's generally assumed that this fear of having his blood discovered is what causes him to be so defensive towards others.

Canon Abilities or Powers:
In regards to the other trolls, Karkat is pretty underwhelming. He doesn’t have many magical abilities like the other trolls, and most of his strengths are limited to his own physical ability. He’s skilled in using sickles and he’s pretty physically fit due to his rigorous training regiments, which were honed even further while he was playing SGRUB. One thing that he’s shown to excel in is his ability to bring stability to others; one example being how he was able to bring a rampaging crazy troll down to calmness with little more than a few pats and a hug. It’s not clear whether this is because of his title as the Knight of Blood (a title that’s meant to bring stability and equilibrium to the team) or if he’s just really good at calming people down, but his ability to “SHOOSH YOUR CLOWN ASS TO SHANGRI-BULLSHIT-LA AND BACK” is something worthy of noting.

Like everyone in Homestuck, he has a Strife Specibus, which is used to describe what weapons one uses, and a Sylladex inventory system. Karkat’s Strife Specibus is Sicklekind, which allows him to wield various kinds of sickles as his weapon. His Sylladex is what is used to hold his collected items, which are stored as cards and stashed into the Sylladex; the Sylladex itself isn't physical per say, moreso something that the characters have on them all the time that can be accessed anytime. This is to mirror the effect of an actual video game character's inventory system and how characters can possess a great number of items while seemingly carrying nothing physically on their bodies.

Other than these small things, Karkat also possesses the natural abilities available to all Alternian trolls. Namely, they are hardier, their claws sharper than human nails and their fangs sharper than a human's. Trolls are also nocturnal, thus being able to see better in the dark than they do in overtly bright light. Karkat is relatively underwhelming when it comes to troll standards (his horns are smaller and nubbier, and teeth are blunter than most trolls), but he would be able to hold his own and probably win against an untrained human due to his personal training and his time playing SGRUB. Since he is self-taught, however, he will have a hard time keeping up in combat against a foe who is professionally trained in combat.

Fairy Tale Role: Raven from "How Raven Brought Light To The World"

Fairy Tale Powers or Abilities: Raven is a trickster, and his most notable abilities mentioned in the story is his ability to shapeshift; he first changes into a pine needle to be swallowed, then into a child, and then, once he has the sun, back into a raven in order to flee the Chief's house with the sun in his beak. Other than this ability, as well as the ability to speak and a notable cleverness, Raven otherwise possesses the same abilities of a common raven in this story. Because of this, Karkat will possess the ability to shapeshift his physical form into other things, so long as they are a living thing (animals, other humanoids, etc). Also, it is mentioned that while Raven is transformed into a human form, he has several characteristics that identify him as being Raven (The actual tale states that Raven's human form " possessed a long, beaklike nose, a few feathers here and there, and the unmistakably black, shining eyes of the raven"). In this regard, I have opted to give Karkat black raven-like wings whenever he assumes his troll form. It might take him a few days to actually learn how to use these wings, but once he gets the hang of it he will be able to fly with them.

Personal Items: Karkat will be carrying his sickle (and by extension his Strife Specibus), the clothes he was currently wearing, his Sylladex (which is empty, by canon accounts), and his Speaker Crab, a wrist-mounted communication device with a removable crab that can be used to project a small holographic image of the person with whom he is talking. The device is strongly suggested to be created from his computer, so it's likely the device has computer-like functionability. Given the nature of Märchenstraße, obviously, this Speaker Crab will probably end up being little more than a decoration once he arrives.

First Person Sample:
[Anyone who happens to be looking at their journal right now might be surprised to find a giant mass of angry text slowly filling the pages.]

SO ACCORDING TO THE MASS OF HALF-SPONGED NUMBNUBS I'M DEALING WITH, APPARENTLY I CAN USE THIS BOOK TO COMMUNICATE WITH OTHERS BY WRITING IN IT.
WHILE THAT'S NOT THE BIGGEST PILE OF HORSESHIT I'VE HAD MY AURICULAR SPONGE CLOTS ASSAULTED BY, IT'S STILL PRETTY FUCKING STUPID IF YOU THINK TOO HARD ABOUT IT.
OK, BUT WEIRD COMMUNICATOR BOOKS AND STUPID ALIEN CONSORT THINGS ASIDE, WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE??
IT'S ONE THING TO BE TOSSED AROUND ALL OF PARADOX SPACE LIKE I'M SOME KIND OF SLAB OF GRUBLOAF BEING TOSSED BETWEEN TWO ASSHOLES PLAYING KEEP-AWAY WITH A CRIPPLED CHOLERBEAR, BUT THIS IS *NOT* SOMETHING I WAS EXPECTING TO HAVE HAPPEN!!
WHAT THE HELL IS THIS PLACE AND WHY IS IT FILLED WITH SO MANY WEIRD... THINGS?? THE CONSORT THINGS KEEP GOING ON ABOUT HOW GREAT IT IS I'M HERE, BUT I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHERE *HERE* EVEN IS!
ARE WE STILL ON LOFAF?? IS THIS JADE'S DOING? BECAUSE SHE WAS PRETTY FUCKING FAR OFF OF HER ROCKER LAST TIME I SPOKE WITH HER.
AND THESE IDIOTS KEEP CALLING ME 'RAVEN'. WHAT THE FUCK EVEN IS A RAVEN??
AND CAN SOMEONE TELL ME WHY THE HELL IT IS I HAVE *WINGS* GROWING OUT OF MY BACK?!

Third Person Sample:
The cool breeze rustled through the trees and ruffled Karkat's feathers as he stood on the hillside overlooking a small valley. He had been scouring the outskirts and forest surrounding Märchenstraße looking for a place to practice using his new wings, and had stumbled upon this secluded area not too long ago. It was out of the way, high enough for some practice yet not so high that he would end up falling to his death if things turned south. The wind wasn't too bad either, meaning that the conditions seemed relatively ideal for practicing flight.

He was still getting used to the fact that he had these new growths on his back, but at least he had figured out his balance with them while walking. Now, as he stood on the edge of the hill, he spread them experimentally, feeling the breeze flow around them and through each of his primary feathers. He took a deep breath, then exhaled it slowly. It looked pretty simple when Aradia, Vriska, and all the other God-Tier-level trolls used their wings, so it should be pretty simple, right?

With one final deep breath, Karkat tensed, crouched down, readied himself. Then, he jumped.

He fell fast, but then the wind caught his falling form, and he could fill the air currents push against his wings. He willed himself to flap them, one, two, three, against the currents. For a second he thought that it was working, that he was actually flying, that he could do this, that it was so simple. But then that lofty feeling faded as he lost the feeling of the wind, and he began to go down, fast.

"Shit, shit, fuck!!"

He fell with a loud thump, spraying dirt and leaves into the air. Coughing a bit, Karkat sat up slowly, growling as he shook the mess from his hair. A quick once-over of his body determined that nothing was broken or damaged, but his wings had numerous leaves sticking out from them. With a sigh, he pulled the offending appendages closer as he began to pick the foliage out of his feathers.
