Märchenstraße

The City
The city at the center of the world. Simply called Märchen by the locals, this is where most tales and fables are born, and where most characters will arrive in this world. Often found unusual for its size, Märchenstraße has the feel of a small town or village, cozy and familiar for anyone who sets foot inside it.

Despite being fairly unorganized, the city is perfectly circular, with three gates separating the town from the rest of the realm; a north-most gate, a south-west gate, and a south-east gate. Homes and houses are found in clusters and neighborhoods in the north-east section, separated from the southern shopping district by a large park. At the center of the city is a lake housing a large, stone clock tower.

The Clock Tower
A great big clock tower at the center of Märchenstraße, in the middle of a small and placid lake. It is always locked, the doors always closed, the high windows always open. Unchanging through whatever happens around it, whether it be natural or man-made destruction, this is where Father Time lives.

The Courthouse
Located in the north-west section of the city, near the ten o'clock mark, sits a large and imposing courthouse that seems almost out of place. Modern and weathered, the marble steps are cracked and the statues broken. Lady Justice can be found here often, sitting upon the judge's bench.

The Housing District
Found in the north-east section of the city, between the one o'clock and four o'clock marks. Largely German architecture, it's primarily made up of two long cobblestone streets (with a fountain at the center of each) bordered by tall houses and a few smaller, single-story cottages.

The Shopping District
Located in the southern corner of the city, nestled between two small parks at either end, the shopping district is large but modest, with an old, traditional charm. Most of the shops are family run businesses, long established and familiar with everyone.

Tailors and dressmakers, practical and lavish, are nestled next to shoemakers (often elvish) and leatherworkers, the first and most common source of armor and equipment (for you or your horse). Nearby are the blacksmiths, steadily working on new weapons and pieces of armor, custom fit for the best protection against giants and dragons.

There are woodworkers and carvers for homes and furniture, and an apothecary for your medicinal and herbal needs, located next door to a high-priced alchemist and two or three magicians who make their living selling potions and magical artifacts.

Food is plentiful. Taking a stroll down this corner of the shopping district is met with the smell of freshly baked breads, cakes and sweet buns, as well as pies and tarts. The open air market carries a variety of produce (mostly those appropriate for each season), grains, beans, and oats. A butcher keeps shop nearby, selling large whole meats along with smaller cuts. Animals can be purchased live or selected for the butcher, including chicken, duck, quail, along with other birds and their eggs, pigs, lamb, and rabbits.

The most popular and highly regarded tavern and inn is The Frog Prince, serving many types of alcohol as well as meals and rooms for travelers. For pay, of course. Other taverns are available, but are generally known to welcome more... shady customers.

At the south-west town gate, is both the city bank and a stable for horses. Carriages and horses may be rented, and horses may be purchased for high prices as well. The horses themselves offer rides for pay within city limits, as a sort of taxi service.

Gletscher

The Continent
A large, cold, and snowy continent, far north of the main city and connected by a long bridge to the southern continent that houses it. Home to native species such as polar bears, penguins, narwhals, and yetis, it's not hard to find a fairy tale or fable living here.

The eastern section of the continent is riddled with mountains and caves, and large frozen lakes. The northern border meets a long arctic ocean, full of glaciers and sunken ships.

Old Man Winter resides forever in this realm, only ever leaving to spread the winter season in his reach.

The North Pole
Home of Santa Claus and his wife, the elves, and the birthplace of all flying reindeer. The North Pole is at the center of Gletscher, a city of its own eternally decorated and forever preparing for winter holidays.

The Forest

The Forest
Clearly the domain of Mother Nature, the edges of the forest closest to Märchenstraße are a colorful range of reds, browns, and orange, tapering off into the lively and lush green hues of a thriving and healthy forest. Just about anything can be found growing here, including many types of tree and flower, as well as mushrooms and berries. Animals are also widespread, though less likely to speak to you than animals found in the city.

Although home to many gentle and kind people as well, the Forest is unrestrained by the laws of society and can truthfully be a dangerous and unpredictable place, and a natural predatory ground of giants, trolls, and Big Bad Wolves. Anyone who willingly travels through is told to take great care.

The Fields
South of the city and bordered completely by the forest are large fields. Wheat fields, flowering meadows, and small hills cut through with a winding stream. Though not specifically measured and scattered with the occasional tree, the fields are a gentle and good place.

The city, Gletscher, the forest, and the fields are only a small part of the realm. Many abandoned and sleeping kingdoms and cottages are scattered throughout the world, in and around these.
