❅ Applications

Applications are: CLOSED
Indefinitely.

To apply for a character, fill out the correct application down below and post it a comment on this entry. Please do not link applications in your journal or delete the comments once your application is processed. Let us know if you would like your application screened.

Apps open on the first of every month and remain open for one week, during which time the mods will begin processing. We're optimistic and hope you'll get the result of your app within a day, but some may take longer depending on the familiarity of the mods with the canon, and the number of apps received in that cycle. If four or more days pass with no response then we suggest you contact a mod.

You can reserve and apply for two characters per app cycle. Currently, players are allowed a maximum of three characters in-game at any given time.

Applications will be judged primarily on the personality section of the character in question, and how the player intends to adapt them into their new role. For this part we're mostly interested in what you plan to do with their powers and new destiny, not how the character will react to it. We'll see that in-game!

Since any OC applications must fall in the range of fairy tales that already exist in the world of Myth Making, these will be held to a higher expectation.

Processing will result in applications being accepted or denied, or revisions requested. Don't worry if you're asked for revisions! It means we're interested in your app, but require more information about something. We'll let you know what that is. If you are asked for revisions, you'll be given one week to provide them.

You are allowed to re-use sections of applications you wrote previously, so don't worry about rewriting your entire personality section. Do NOT plagiarise any part of another player's application for your own, as this will result in an instant ban.

Test drive memes will go up on our meme comm, [community profile] mythmemes, the same day reserves open!

(Switched the History and Personality sections since a lot of the Personality section refers back to info in the History section.)
History:
{World} The geographical background of Double Arts is limited to a small map display of one continent with only the Nitan Empire and country of Naginzeria mapped out, but we know the human population is made up of 4 races-- two that were never mentioned due to manga cancellation, the Nagin race known for valor and physical strength, and the Beigar known for their craftsmanship. The most important aspect of Double Arts' world is Troy, a pandemic level disease that is spread through direct contact with skin or hair. There has been no cure for Troy, and it is unique in that when patients hit the final stage, they go into a seizure and their body disappears, hence its nickname 'the vanishing disease'. Also, only a small number of women seem to have a high resistance against Troy. Two organizations have developed from the appearance of Troy: the Order of the Sisters, which battles Troy, and the Gazelles who try to kill off the Sisters. Not much is known about the Gazelles other than it has 11 leaders and is comprised of hired mercenaries and assassins. Sisters of the Order are women who have a high resistance and are trained to absorb Troy's toxins from a patient to prevent their death. Essentially, they can only treat the symptoms of Troy and extend their patients' lifespans but at the risk of shortening their own.
{Elraine} Elraine is a traveling Sister who has treated thousands of Troy patients, and reduced her lifespan to a capacity of about 20 years and lessening with each Drain. When Elle was young, her whole town was wiped out due to Troy, leaving her as the only survivor. Elle was retrieved by the Sisterhood and brought to headquarters, where she trained under Sister Martha and became an official Sister at 8 years old. Since she has treated thousands of patients, more than any other Sister, Elraine unknowingly gained a reputation as a hero and idol to all Sisters. Her popular title, 'White Fairy', among Sisters stems from Martha's nickname for Elle when she was little.
Double Arts focuses on Elraine's fated meeting and adventures with Kiri-- when she goes into an early seizure, Kiri finds her and stops her seizure simply through skin contact. Because Kiri has the ability to suppress Troy, Elle's duty is to escort him the the Order's headquarters while never letting go of his hand or else she will die from Troy.

Personality:
Elraine is an incredibly modest girl who remains cheerful despite her heartbreaking past, including her town's annihilation and the future of an ever-shortening lifespan. Being victim of a deadly disease called Troy, Elraine was dedicated to her work as a Sister and viewed it as the only way of life left for her. It takes her meeting with Kiri to understand that her life is very precious and shouldn't be thrown away for her duty.

A true martyr, as all Sisters are, Elle handled her job with humility and did not use her status to guilt or exploit others, making her a mature individual for her age. On top of being extremely selfless, Elle is extremely polite and mindful of others, even when she does not receive the same treatment in return. She fully understands why people fear Troy, and Sisters by association, but never holds it against them or feels resentment. She always keeps the safety and health of others in mind before herself and can become incredibly stubborn when she's focused on helping someone. Despite her success as a Sister, Elle puts down her skills and work due to her extreme modesty. Elraine is also incredibly oblivious to her status among the Sisters but becomes bashful when it's brought to her attention that she is referred to as a hero. However, if she's made fun of or is teased, she becomes loud and violent from embarrassment. A few examples include when Kiri laughs at her nickname and she punches him in the face, or Sister Heine teases Kiri and Elle about inviting her to their violent which Elle yells back that they're not like that. The same can be applied for when her personal space is violated (like when Sui peeps on her while taking a shower).

In the beginning of Double Arts, Elle's main goal in life was to save as many people as she could, thus sacrificing her lifespan and putting aside her ambitions and dreams in the process. Elraine is not the type to sit back and watch people suffer, hence why she worked as a Sister to keep people from dying. It was not a satisfying lifestyle for her, yet Elraine continued to work herself to death (quite literally). It's not surprising that her lifestyle has led Elle to become pessimistic. In a segment of Elle's narration, she recounts the Sisters' hope that they would find someone unaffected by Troy and find a cure through them, although tacks she on that she personally never believed in such a story. While somewhat resigned to her fate, Elle did hate the fact that she was sick with Troy and disliked how people treated her as a Sister. Ironically, Elraine is the one to encounter Kiri while she's dying, the only person immune to Troy, and is rescued from her fate. In her current point, Elraine is satisfied being by Kiri's side and has hope that they'll make it to the Order's headquarters and find a cure for Troy. Her dream is to see a world without Troy, and that is what she aims to achieve with Kiri's help.

During their journey to the Order, Elle learns from Kiri to value herself and to follow her dreams. Behind her kindhearted disposition, Elle originally viewed herself as a weapon of Troy rather than a person. However, Kiri reminds her that she's saved so many people and gives her a sense of normalcy when she is happily welcomed to his house by his parents. Kiri is also the reason Elle begins to follow her heart. Despite the fact that Elle associated Sisters with a mission-based, martyrly lifetyle, she begins to realize that she does not completely approve of Sisters sacrificing their lives for others' well-being. When Kiri is found by one of the leaders of the Gazelle, she's distraught by the fact that the group of Sisters she was visiting told to run away with Kiri to protect him, obviously ready to sacrifice themselves to buy Elle and Kiri some time. To prevent anymore sacrifices, Elle and Kiri develop their personal martial arts over time, called Double Arts, so that they can fight and protect themselves. Elle also insists that Sister Heine should follow her dream to be an artist rather than go to her final treatment and even puts herself in potential danger by 'draining' Heine to prevent her death. Despite the fact that she's learned to not instantly resort to sacrifice, Elle is still willing to sacrifice herself for Kiri as a last option because he is her hope for the world to be able to live without Troy. That and she loves him. ♥

Canon Abilities or Powers:
-"Drain" = the ability to draw out Troy's poisons/toxins from other people and bring it into her body (it helps that she has a high tolerance, so it would only shorten her lifespan a little bit for each drain) Reference: here and here
-Being able to see if someone is infected with Troy, although the manga doesn't talk about it too much. It is referenced here

Fairy Tale Role: The kumiho from The Fox Sister
Fairy Tale Powers or Abilities:
The ability to cast illusions: in the story, the two eldest brothers end up consuming maggots, blood, and parts of corpses because the kumiho disguises the meal as a banquet with wine. This means Elle would have the ability to cast temporary illusions that can trick all the senses.
Elle would also be able to freely transform into a nine-tailed fox, and have increased strength during feeding time (if/when she tries to eat someone's liver) or during full moons. Generally, a kumiho can charm others in their human state, so I would mark this as an ability that Elle can turn on and off rather than have it be a constant state for her (even if she's adorable as is).

Personal Items:
-Elle's Sister uniform (since she'll be wearing her cloak and Double Arts uniform on arrival)
-Traveling backpack (will be empty)

First Person Sample:
I'm not sure what to do with myself. Kiri could get a job easily here, especially if he went to the tailors for a job, but I don't have any practical job experience. Does anyone have any recommendations for easy jobs? I could clean, but that's about all I know. Cooking is not an option [... is scribbled out.] My situation back home was akin to a traveling doctor, but I only specialized with patients who were ill with one type of disease which doesn't seem to exist here. Besides, it seems most people are healthy here, which is great! It's wonderful to see a place like this.

But [......] I can't help but wonder why some people give me strange looks. I'm not sick anymore, so that shouldn't be a problem. [...also scribbled out.]

[A few minutes later:] Is it just me or do all the meat dishes here taste amazing?
