❅ Applications
Indefinitely.
To apply for a character, fill out the correct application down below and post it a comment on this entry. Please do not link applications in your journal or delete the comments once your application is processed. Let us know if you would like your application screened. Apps open on the first of every month and remain open for one week, during which time the mods will begin processing. We're optimistic and hope you'll get the result of your app within a day, but some may take longer depending on the familiarity of the mods with the canon, and the number of apps received in that cycle. If four or more days pass with no response then we suggest you contact a mod. You can reserve and apply for two characters per app cycle. Currently, players are allowed a maximum of three characters in-game at any given time. Applications will be judged primarily on the personality section of the character in question, and how the player intends to adapt them into their new role. For this part we're mostly interested in what you plan to do with their powers and new destiny, not how the character will react to it. We'll see that in-game! Since any OC applications must fall in the range of fairy tales that already exist in the world of Myth Making, these will be held to a higher expectation. Processing will result in applications being accepted or denied, or revisions requested. Don't worry if you're asked for revisions! It means we're interested in your app, but require more information about something. We'll let you know what that is. If you are asked for revisions, you'll be given one week to provide them. You are allowed to re-use sections of applications you wrote previously, so don't worry about rewriting your entire personality section. Do NOT plagiarise any part of another player's application for your own, as this will result in an instant ban. Test drive memes will go up on our meme comm, ![]() ✒ OOC Name: What do you want us to call you? Do you play anyone in Myth Making?: n/a
✒ IC
Name: Yui Kusanagi
Canon: Kamigami no Asobi
Canon Point: Student council route, athletics festival (right after the student council wins the kibasen)
Age: 17-18
no subject
So in a school full of gods unknowing and a little ignorant about most things human, Yui serves as the class' voice of reason and takes her responsibility seriously as the gods' "tutor". She looks for the delinquents all over the school and drags them back to class. She takes charge and makes sure that everyone participates in school activities and clubs. And despite her moments of exasperation or confusion (mostly either out of the gods’ cluelessness, out-of-this-world ideas or being a pain in the ass), she supports them anyway, providing additional input or suggestions that would improve things. At the same time, she’s also open-minded and willing to learn new things from them. New and strange things may startle her at first but she accepts them anyway, effortlessly integrating them into her life.
Her dedication often leads to her bouts of stubbornness (and with it, her rarely-seen dry wit). She didn’t earn her nickname “真面目ちゃん”, or “serious-chan” for nothing. If something needs to be done, then she will do something about it so God help her. For instance, she challenges Takeru to a kendo match when she’s already out of options on how to get him to join a club, much to the sea god’s surprise and amusement. At times, it also leads her to showing a different side of her: someone sly, someone clever. Every single day, she would think of ways to trick Loki into attending their club meetings: from stubbornly dragging him to the clubroom to providing incentives to putting up an act with Thor. This doesn’t mean however that everyone listens to her. Her determination is often rewarded but sometimes, the gods are really just too forceful that her voice gets drowned out in a sea of enthusiastic yelling and she just gets swept away as an unwilling victim.
As the story progresses, Yui begins to care for her classmates even though half the time, it feels like babysitting. Perceptive and very much attentive to them, she sees the effort that they put into the things they do and her desire to help them graduate grows more with every day. She’s also often the first to see if there’s something wrong, acting as the gods’ mental and emotional support especially during those times when they’re tried either by Zeus or something else. She keeps them optimistic and encourages them when they’re down. Even when pushed away, she doesn’t give up; she finds ways to show that she’s still present and willing to help. She’s even willing to brave the Underworld on her own. And that’s because she sees them beyond their image as gods and sees them as individuals with feelings and emotions like her. Which is, in fact, something the gods appreciate since most humans often see them as that: gods, eternal and all-powerful.
Her compassion, understanding, concern towards other people and her dedication to help them show a glaring and destructive flaw in Yui’s character however. As Thoth had reiterated again and again, she’s a good person. She believes and trusts both in the gods she’s studying with and also in humans, accepting their flaws and loving them still. Heck, she even pleads to the gods not to destroy humanity. And because they rely on her, Yui always needs to be the one who is mentally and emotionally strong. Due to her responsibility as the human representative, she takes it all on herself and smothers her own emotions, issues and pain for the sake of these individuals she love and care for.
Sure, she easily gets flustered when made a move on (or at the sight of half-naked guys); she also hates it when she’s being toyed around and can and will react with such a temper that it had once startled one of the gods. Sure, she gets passionate when things get rough or her voice of reason needs to be heard. But for the most part, she keeps her own deepest, most honest emotions to herself. In fact, she’s never once declared her own feelings to these people until the very end unless prodded, encouraged or pointed out; sometimes, not even ever. Her desire for these people to be happy is so great that she doesn’t mind her own feelings get side aside. And it’s with this kind of thinking that she has a tendency to become self-sacrificing, level-headed as she is. She’s fine with dying; there were at least three endings where she nearly died and she successfully did in one of those endings, much to the guy’s shock. She’s fine with her love being unrequited; her feelings had been unrequited in a number of endings. She’s fine with getting hurt. As she had once said in one of the routes, “as long as he’s happy and he can graduate, then my feelings don’t matter.” And in the end, whichever decision Yui makes (whether to people, it’s the correct decision or not), she stands by it even if it means her life.
History: LINK
( NOTE: I placed the history write-up on a different page because it got a bit cumbersome and long, due to the fact that there's no comprehensive wiki for the game since it's (1)just come out last October and (2)in Japanese. There are a number of route summaries and review in its tumblr tag and the official site is here with the main premise of the story.
I also have manga chapters which follows the basic storyline with a few differences. It's in Chinese but it currently has 7 chapters that covers up to Yui's canon point. Chapters are here: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7.
If you need more resources, I'll be more than happy to provide! )
Canon Abilities or Powers: Yui's a normal person despite being summoned by Zeus to be the gods' tutor slash babysitter. She is however skilled in the art of iaijutsu and iaido, or sword-drawing. While not on the same level as Takeru's swordsmanship, she's nevertheless skilled enough to be acknowledged and given permission by the storm god to teach him more about kendo (the sport itself, not swordfighting). In one of the routes, she also joins the subduing of the Yamato-no-Orochi so her level of fighting does speak for itself.
Fairy Tale Role: Kaguya-hime ( THE TALE OF THE BAMBOO-CUTTER )
Fairy Tale Powers or Abilities:
» CHARM. Kaguya-hime is known for her extraordinary beauty that has charmed even the Emperor of Japan himself albeit reluctantly. This ability to charm people will only work/take effect if Yui wills for it to work/take effect. At first or upon learning this ability, the charm will simply give the target a soothing or comfortable feeling towards her. As Yui masters this power, the ability or effect can range from simple attraction to madly falling in love with her. It's not permanent since Yui can remove its effect by "rejecting" the person she's put the charm on.
» GOLD ALLOWANCE (haha idk how to call it). Every day, if someone were to - oh I don't know - hack down one of the bamboos that surround the place where Yui will be staying/living, they'll find a small gold nugget (probably around 2 inches big?) in the center. Just one per day though. And this isn't something Yui would actively know unless someone finds out about it (by again, hacking down one of the bamboos) or an NPC informs her about it.
During full moons, Yui (as Kaguya-hime) gains an additional ability which reflect the events in the mythology.
» HAGOROMO. Kaguya-hime's feather robe or mantle which allows her to return back to the Capital of the Moon. Of course, Yui won't be able to fly to the moon but it will give her the power of flight. Nothing spectacular too, as she won't have the ability to carry passengers and will only be able to skim tree tops. Wearing this robe however will have her personality completely change into something colder and less compassionate and kind. The hagoromo will lose its effect with the setting of the moon.
Personal Items: Since she'll be coming from the hakoniwa, all that she'll have on her would be her school uniform and the sealed Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi (the sword will be in its palm-sized, pendant form).
First Person Sample:
( the post shows up neatly written except perhaps for the several crossed out sentences and a number of ink blots on the border which suggest either thoughtfulness or boredom. well, considering the content of the post, the writer is hardly bored in any way. )
• found inside a bamboo by a bamboo cutter
• gave her suitors impossible tasks but some of the suitors died or didn't fulfill the task
• the Emperor also fell in love with her but she rejected him since she needed to return to the moon
• the tennin came to escort her back but she left the Emperor an elixir for immortality
• after she had left, the Emperor burned the elixir on top of Mount Fuji
could she be related to Tsukito-san?HOW TO ACT AS KAGUYA-HIMEI think I'm missing a few details to the story. It's really been a while since I've last read this one so most likely I am. And given that I'm referred to as Kaguya-hime now - or at least, sitting in for her - I suppose it's only right that I learn more about her and her story.
( a blot of ink gradually spreads out on the page, evidence that yui's gone into deep thought. )
In any case, does anyone know where the library might be, if there is one? And if it's possible to bring out the books out here in the forest. ( there's a hastily written and scratched off i didn't think kaguya-hime lived in a mansion in the forest after that ) I guess I could just carry them if it's only going to be a volume or two. Any input on the story would be very much appreciated as well.
Third Person Sample:
Someone's stalking her.
Or perhaps it's simply her imagination. It's so easy to mistake that someone could be following her, given the various sounds in the forest. The rustling of trees, the creaking and breaking of branches and twigs, the footsteps of animals muffled by rotting leaves on the ground ... Those are typical sounds when one's in the forest - but that's not how it feels to her.
She's had this sort of feeling every time she would leave the town square and go back to the mansion. Most of the time, they were love-struck individuals stalking and asking for her hand in marriage each and every time. Exasperating as they are (and embarrassing too, considering they do it in the middle of the crowd), they often go away and leave her alone once she's turned them down. Yui sighs inwardly, feeling exhausted all of a sudden. What if it's one of them again?
But then, what if it's not? After all, this place has a similar feel to the garden, with its mythical creatures and things and God-knows-what. She wonders if it's something dangerous, something she needs to fight against. She wonders as well if she's at a disadvantage, with her lack of weapon (she left her practice sword at the mansion) and her severely cumbersome robes (the jūnihitoe was the only form of clothing other than her uniform in the mansion).
Yui stops walking, looking over her shoulder. There's no one there. There's nothing there except for a passing deer. Her hand rises to the pendant hanging around her neck, its edges bluntly cutting into her skin.
"Hello?" She calls out, her voice ringing firm. This isn't the time to show that she's apprehensive or scared, even. "Are you lost? Can I help you?"
