❅ Applications
Indefinitely.
To apply for a character, fill out the correct application down below and post it a comment on this entry. Please do not link applications in your journal or delete the comments once your application is processed. Let us know if you would like your application screened. Apps open on the first of every month and remain open for one week, during which time the mods will begin processing. We're optimistic and hope you'll get the result of your app within a day, but some may take longer depending on the familiarity of the mods with the canon, and the number of apps received in that cycle. If four or more days pass with no response then we suggest you contact a mod. You can reserve and apply for two characters per app cycle. Currently, players are allowed a maximum of three characters in-game at any given time. Applications will be judged primarily on the personality section of the character in question, and how the player intends to adapt them into their new role. For this part we're mostly interested in what you plan to do with their powers and new destiny, not how the character will react to it. We'll see that in-game! Since any OC applications must fall in the range of fairy tales that already exist in the world of Myth Making, these will be held to a higher expectation. Processing will result in applications being accepted or denied, or revisions requested. Don't worry if you're asked for revisions! It means we're interested in your app, but require more information about something. We'll let you know what that is. If you are asked for revisions, you'll be given one week to provide them. You are allowed to re-use sections of applications you wrote previously, so don't worry about rewriting your entire personality section. Do NOT plagiarise any part of another player's application for your own, as this will result in an instant ban. Test drive memes will go up on our meme comm, ![]() ✒ OOC Name: What do you want us to call you? Do you play anyone in Myth Making?: Nope!
✒ IC
Name: Iceland
Canon: Axis Powers Hetalia
Canon Point: January 2014
Age: 1,139. Looks 16 - 17.
Personality:
Iceland is true to his name in the sense that he does appear rather frosty to most people. 'Being approachable' is not his strong suit, as he won't hesitate to call someone stupid or an idiot if he doesn't agree with their line of logic, and he has no problem being straightforward to push through a conversation. However, part of this is brought on by the fact that he's rather shy and grew up in an isolated environment, so he doesn't actually know how to act appropriately in social situations. He doesn't want to be rude or unlikable, and even if he can be blunt, he has enough self awareness to be polite when he needs to be. Most people are kept at arm's length, regardless of what Iceland is speaking about or how he goes about it, as he's prone to embarrassment and keeping a safe distance from others means less chance of embarrassment. He doesn't know how to deal with his feelings, much less those of others, so it's less awkward if he doesn't get involved. In fact, Iceland is pretty conflicted about being social: he'll attend events and parties, but not engage with anyone and be a wallflower. This way, he can convince himself that he's Cool and Normal, despite the fact he won't partake in the festivities. The reason he bothers being around people at all, even if he doesn't interact with them, is because he doesn't like being lonely or being left out.
Deeper down, Iceland is much warmer than the cold barrier he projects. He wants to be accepted, normal, and cool, but his contradictory nature makes it difficult. He's been a little brother his whole life - first to Norway, and then Denmark, and in the modern age, the aforementioned two plus Sweden and Finland all treat him like a little brother. That combined with Iceland's independent attitude and stubbornness results in general moodiness when he's coddled too much or, alternately, told what to do. He's used to being looked down on due to being younger than the other four in his familial group, which runs counter to how he wants to see himself: as a capable adult. Unfortunately, the harder he tries to convince himself and everyone else (read: the other Nordics) that he's totally mature and grown up, he tends to act more childishly. Temper tantrums are the worst offender, as he can throw an impressive hissy fit and stomp out on someone over something petty like Norway asking him - albeit repeatedly - to call him 'big brother' like when Iceland was little. This was even after it was proven that they were blood-related and not just assumed to be related. Iceland simply doesn't take orders well, no matter how small or insignificant they are.
The softer, more personable traits Iceland has are the ones people don't typically see, as he tries to hide them to protect himself. Because in all actuality, Iceland is very sensitive! And he knows people can take advantage of that or at least look down on him. He's already rather self deprecating about his age and how he looks. Cool people are obviously not awkward and insecure, which again is why Iceland doesn't want to let people in on how he really feels. Given that he already struggles with his own feelings, it's not hard to see why he doesn't want to deal with anyone else's on top of that, thus looping us back to why Iceland is lonely but doesn't want to be, and why he has his chilly facade. So while the 'cold' and 'warm' aspects can be looked at separately and they contradict each other, they all feed into another to make one sheltered, unsure teenager who just wants to fit in but doesn't know how to. He falls on the far ends of the spectrum - too harsh and unapproachable, or too shaky and delicate. He can take charge when he needs to, but would rather wait for things and people to come to him. He's judgmental and thinks that everything makes sense in his own world, pushing people away who don't fit his idea of what normality is. Of course, how could he know what normal is if he keeps to himself all the time? No wonder he's so lonely.
History: As Hetalia is a "comedy history" manga, Iceland's backstory is, in fact, based off Icelandic history. Outlined here in Wikipedia and tvtropes. The character wiki is here.
Canon Abilities or Powers:
It was once implied that Iceland had 'weird friends' like his brother Norway, whose friends are supernatural creatures. This has not been brought up again in canon, but it should be noted as Iceland has been pointed out to seem ethereal or otherworldly, and have his house (the actual country of Iceland) be compared to a land of fantasy, so it's not a stretch to say that he could commune with supernatural creatures. Then again, the jury's out on whether or not he actually can.
As far as nationhood goes, he's practically immortal. He ages incredibly slowly, can't be killed like a conventional human, and it takes a lot more to seriously injure him. His health is tied to the Icelandic economy, with recessions and the like being akin to having a cold. Iceland may be a bit more fragile for a nation, as being slumped over the computer playing an mmorpg made his hand and back hurt.
And for some odd reason, his eyes change color between blue and purple.
Fairy Tale Role: The little goat from "Three Billy Goats Gruff"
Fairy Tale Powers or Abilities: The power to be a normal goat. Being able to balance well on rocks and cross bridges with ease! Since there's no magic associated with the story, and "being a goat" isn't obvious just by being able to walk across some wooden planks, Iceland will also take on a slightly altered appearance fitting of his new role: small horns, ears, and a tail, that would be found on a young billy goat.
Personal Items: Five of his favorite sweaters. Seriously, he loves his sweaters.
First Person Sample:
[ The letters are narrow, occasionally squished together or connected by a quill stroke that shouldn't be there, it's clear that Iceland is trying to get the words on paper as quickly as he can. ]
This is unfair! How come I have to be some stupid goat? Everyone else gets to be a hero or something cool...
Whatever, can I walk across a bridge and go home then? Or be turned to something else? There's not much of a story for me. Did I get forgotten until the last minute so I got this dumb role? I want to be Gunnar Hámundarson or even any other person instead.
This is stupid! I bet there aren't even trolls here.
[ Later, as an addendum: ]
WHY DO I HAVE HAVE A TAIL?!!
Third Person Sample: Here and here!
