❅ Applications

Applications are: CLOSED
Indefinitely.

To apply for a character, fill out the correct application down below and post it a comment on this entry. Please do not link applications in your journal or delete the comments once your application is processed. Let us know if you would like your application screened.

Apps open on the first of every month and remain open for one week, during which time the mods will begin processing. We're optimistic and hope you'll get the result of your app within a day, but some may take longer depending on the familiarity of the mods with the canon, and the number of apps received in that cycle. If four or more days pass with no response then we suggest you contact a mod.

You can reserve and apply for two characters per app cycle. Currently, players are allowed a maximum of three characters in-game at any given time.

Applications will be judged primarily on the personality section of the character in question, and how the player intends to adapt them into their new role. For this part we're mostly interested in what you plan to do with their powers and new destiny, not how the character will react to it. We'll see that in-game!

Since any OC applications must fall in the range of fairy tales that already exist in the world of Myth Making, these will be held to a higher expectation.

Processing will result in applications being accepted or denied, or revisions requested. Don't worry if you're asked for revisions! It means we're interested in your app, but require more information about something. We'll let you know what that is. If you are asked for revisions, you'll be given one week to provide them.

You are allowed to re-use sections of applications you wrote previously, so don't worry about rewriting your entire personality section. Do NOT plagiarise any part of another player's application for your own, as this will result in an instant ban.

Test drive memes will go up on our meme comm, [community profile] mythmemes, the same day reserves open!

Do you play anyone in Myth Making?: Nope

IC
Name: Jonathan
Canon: Shin Megami Tensei IV
Canon Point: After his death.
Age: 18

Personality: Jonathan is polite. That’s the first noticeable thing about him. He says it’s because of his good upbringing, and that it’s nothing, only what’s expected, right? Incredibly nice, incredibly kind- bland, unspecific words that form the first layer. After a while of knowing him, he’s also a bit too nice. He’s that one guy in class who reminds the teacher when they forget to collect homework, and whenever anyone gives him a glare in the face for it, he very clearly and adamantly declares “Hiding truths for your own benefit is morally wrong.” He could easily be dismissed as a teacher’s pet, or society’s lapdog, bowing down to the higher authorities and giving every politically correct answer.

Well, to a certain extent, that could be true. Jonathan is the game’s Law Hero- long story short, the Law Hero is peaceful. They are caring, and serve under God’s will. They do what must be done to bring justice and believe in order, plucking out the seeds of rebellion and live to aid others. That is Jonathan in a nutshell.

For the most part, Jonathan’s biggest desire is for everyone to just be happy and get along. For that reason he’s almost poisonous to conflict, though he does realize that sometimes it has to happen- he just makes sure that any of the pettier ones stop. He tries to be the peacekeeper, picking out his own words carefully. Any rudeness or harsh comments that roll off him are few and far between, though, and he always apologizes profusely if they slip off his tongue. There is no room for mishap, no room for a mean insult that could hurt someone. He thinks before he says anything, and as such, he doesn’t talk as much as others would.

He tries to do what’s right, instead of what’s easy. Though, his definition of ‘right’ might be a bit skewed. He cannot accept the notion of the strong towering over and oppressing the weak; he believes everyone is born equal, and should be treated thus so. He likes to believe that sometimes, people simply just don’t show their ‘good’ as much as their ‘bad’. Jonathan does not believe he has the right to hold anyone’s life within his hands, but he will still do it, if they are only getting what they deserve. If anyone backstabs him, or (God forbid) his friends, he will hunt them down. Though, it will come with his own emotional turmoil, should he ever face down a stranger who’s done nothing wrong to him or a former (or current) friend with his sword.

However, while he’s nice, he’s not very… smart. Jonathan was manipulated by the angels in the game. Walter (the character of opposing alignment and views to Jonathan) can see just how terrible the angels are, and genuinely believes that while Chaos Route is dangerous and the circumstances surrounding it scare him, it’s a better option than to rollover and allow himself to be used by the angels for a world they want and is decides to follow the demons. The demons could not tempt Jonathan because he was blind to the flaws of the angels, which is what the demons used partly to bring Walter away.

He grew up believing that the angels of legend helped to bring peace to the land, and appreciates the peaceful life he has had so far, most likely because he had many fairy-stories of war and of Mikado’s founding he could refer to. So, when the angels presented themselves Jonathan immediately associated them as completely good. He says, if you follow him to kill Lilith, ‘do not be so swayed by the concept of reform that you are blind to reality’. But unfortunately, if there’s anyone who’s blind, it’s most likely him- because it really is apparent that there are a million things so terribly wrong with both Mikado and Tokyo, but Jonathan vehemently denies it and sticks with what he has always known, focusing on the great things about Mikado and the bad things about Tokyo, despite the fact that the angels haven’t really done anything to prove themselves as ‘good’ other than the biased tales of their country (which they should know are biased due to the inaccurate portrayals of the Tokyo people in them).

Jonathan is someone who wants something to hold onto and believe in- that happens to be the Archangels and Mikado. And if anyone threatens it, he lashes out against them and refuses to listen to their words, however selfish or close-minded it might seem. That’s also why he treats everyone so kindly whenever he can. Because he needs something to believe in himself, he tries to make himself something others can believe in so they don’t aimlessly wander the Earth or feel weak. He believes that humans need to think of others and be mindful of how they’d affect them, or else they are little more than demons.

In conclusion, he is kind and gentle because of his own insecurities and need to believe in something. But at the same time, while he believes in peace, coexistence and community, he tends to be very close-minded towards anything that could shake the foundation of what he believes in and thus tends to be a stickler for rules. He can hardly accept those with more individually-focused ideals and care not for other people, though he can be selfish himself towards preserving his own knowledge and sticking to tradition.

History: The link to the wiki!

Canon Abilities or Powers: He has control over ice and wind magic back in his world (Bufudyne and Zandyne), that came with working with demons. Which is poof and gone, though he’ll be trying to use them again whenever he forgets.

His sword work is also not to be sniffed at, since he’s been practicing such under his father for most of his life before being thrown into the work of a Samurai. It’s all for killing demons, though, so he will only use it sparingly. He’s also got the power to summon demons to fight for him before he got here- though now he’s only got one demon, Yomotsu-Shikome, with the attack Stun Needles. It doesn’t do much though… in fact, it’s… probably here for the fairytale…

Fairy Tale Role: Hansel (Hansel & Gretel)
Fairy Tale Powers or Abilities: Hansel doesn’t have any special abilities rather than a strong faith that he and Gretel could get out alive, and the empathy to comfort Gretel no matter what dire situation they were thrown in. Both of it fits Jonathan already, so there’s not much of a change. However, with Hansel's role comes a rekindled hope for life and to survive now, rather than dwell in the world he left behind.

Personal Items:
-His sword
-His Gauntlet (complete with the snarky AI inside and one summonable demon, Yomotsu-Shikome, which… acts far too much like the witch in the fairytale for his liking)
-A fluffy yellow scarf
-His samurai sword and jacket

First Person Sample:
[It’s a strange kind of magic, sure, but by now he’s basically gotten used to whatever scenario he gets thrown in. Unfortunately.]

Good day. [There’s an awkward pause before the next words.] My name is Jonathan. I’ve arrived in this place rather suddenly, and I’m not quite sure what I’m supposed to do.

[The presses against the paper gets a bit softer.] I don’t want to bother anyone, but if it’s not too troublesome… has anyone heard of anyone called a Samurai? Or the Eastern Kingdom of Mikado? Has anyone heard of the archangels. I assume this… isn’t Heaven?

I’m sorry for being so forward, but any help could be appreciated, even if the answer is null. [Another pause.] Oh, one last thing- has anyone else arrived here… post-mortem?

Third Person Sample:
Well this is awkward.

The fairy-stories of old is no longer too much of fantasy, Jonathan already knows that- the demons are definitely real. But right now, the human fables and heroes from times of old, stashed away in his library- it’s a bit of a shock to take in, even now. And… well, he is dead. He didn’t know what to expect from death. But it’s certainly not this.

The first time he saw an elf, he doubled back a bit before realizing that they weren’t quite as malicious as the ones before. These were the kind ones, from the nicer fairy-stories- everything seems like a… nice fairy-story. For children to dream about when they’re about to drift off to sleep.

(He still cringes when he sees Pixies, though. Like really. Don’t mess with Pixies.)

The natives are friendly. Much more so than the cheating and suffering occupants of Tokyo, or the snotty behavior of the Luxurors in Mikado. It’s a nice and pretty welcome change, though…

“Excuse my impertinence, but… why are you called me Hansel?”

They didn’t really have a good answer for that. Jonathan’s pretty sure they’ve got the wrong person at this point, especially since he’s done nothing of sorts to deserve just a warm welcome, but they turn vague. He’s read such a fairy-story before, Hansel and Gretel, was it…? But as much as he’s been through, there’s no memory of him eating a candy house.

Amongst the confusion, he decides to stow away in a much more quiet alleyway just for a moment, to see if his Gauntlet still worked. (…It did.)

“Hello, Master Jonathan,” Burroughs rang out. “I am still present, though my functions are… limited.”

That- didn't sound good. “Oh, it’s alright, Burroughs. What can you still do?”

“I can summon one demon.” Which means he’s probably going to have to use his sword against any dangers. But, one demon is better than nothing, right? Especially when his ice and wind magic seems to be unworkable.

“Which demon is it?”

“Yomotsu-Shikome.”

It seems that everything is tailored for the inhabitants to mistake him as Hansel, because the ensuing demon recited mindless phrases from the fairy-story before he summoned it back. He sighed, slumped against the wall- how… how are the people back in his world doing? Has Merkabah succeeded in… committing genocide? (Why did he agree to that?) Where even is Flynn and Isabeau…?

He winces and shakes away the notion, just deciding to work with what he has now. The weird book could be a good way to start…
