❅ Applications
Indefinitely.
To apply for a character, fill out the correct application down below and post it a comment on this entry. Please do not link applications in your journal or delete the comments once your application is processed. Let us know if you would like your application screened. Apps open on the first of every month and remain open for one week, during which time the mods will begin processing. We're optimistic and hope you'll get the result of your app within a day, but some may take longer depending on the familiarity of the mods with the canon, and the number of apps received in that cycle. If four or more days pass with no response then we suggest you contact a mod. You can reserve and apply for two characters per app cycle. Currently, players are allowed a maximum of three characters in-game at any given time. Applications will be judged primarily on the personality section of the character in question, and how the player intends to adapt them into their new role. For this part we're mostly interested in what you plan to do with their powers and new destiny, not how the character will react to it. We'll see that in-game! Since any OC applications must fall in the range of fairy tales that already exist in the world of Myth Making, these will be held to a higher expectation. Processing will result in applications being accepted or denied, or revisions requested. Don't worry if you're asked for revisions! It means we're interested in your app, but require more information about something. We'll let you know what that is. If you are asked for revisions, you'll be given one week to provide them. You are allowed to re-use sections of applications you wrote previously, so don't worry about rewriting your entire personality section. Do NOT plagiarise any part of another player's application for your own, as this will result in an instant ban. ✒ IC
Name: Apple White
Canon: Ever After High (specifically the book series)
Canon Point: Directly after the first book ends.
Age: 15
Personality:
Apple White is the perfect fairytale princess: she's beautiful, she's charming, and she can wear a crown with unmatched style. As the daughter of Snow White, and the next in a long line of Snow Whites, she seems like the perfect successor to her mother's tale and a beloved future queen.
And, more or less, she is. Apple is largely what she appears to be on the surface: a kind, considerate girl who puts others first and is always there to say a good word and lend a helping hand to anyone who needs it. She prides herself on her sense of responsibility, and she always wants to do what's best for everyone - but unfortunately, even good intentions don't always turn out right, and what Apple thinks is best doesn't always work out that way.
Growing up, she was always the prettiest, most popular princess in school, fawned over by her family, teachers, and practically everyone else. It can be hard to believe that the world doesn't revolve around you when everyone acts like it does, and while she's hardly rotten, Apple is plenty spoiled. She has a lot of difficulty with the idea that other people don't always think the way she does, that they might have different values and priorities, and just because she wants something to work doesn't mean it will. To put it another way: Apple is the kind of person who will, in an honest attempt to be helpful, redecorate your room according not to what she likes, or what you actually like, but what she thinks you should like. And then she won't understand why this didn't make you happy.
Despite her often misguided attempts, Apple really does treasure helping others above all else (even if her definition of "helping" is sometimes "helping you see the error of your ways and do things right"). After all, she's going to be a queen someday, in charge of a whole kingdom full of subjects who will look to her for guidance, and she takes that responsibility with utmost seriousness. She wants to be a good ruler, loved for more than just being another beautiful Snow White.
Not that the Snow White part isn't important. No, that's the most important part of all - not because it means she'll be queen (although that's a nice bonus), not because of the Prince Charming (who's actually kind of a jerk), but because it's her destiny. From birth, Apple has been told exactly how her life will go: evil queen, poison apple, so on and so forth, happily ever after. Her entire future has been planned out, neat and precise, everything set in stone and certain as the sun will rise.
Apple likes certainty. Certainty is safe. Unpredictability is dangerous, something to fear; all of her life she's clung to the knowledge of her destiny, because that means she knows exactly how things will turn out. It means she doesn't have to worry about being hurt or rejected or any other great unknowns in life, because her story has already been written. Any other hardship, Apple can stand up to with a smile on her face, but that dark, horrible fear of uncertainty, of not knowing what will happen…that frightens her more than anything else.
History:
Wiki links: Character page | Book page
It's not mentioned on either page for some reason, but the book details an incident from when Apple was a very small princess, when she tipped over into a well and nearly drowned. Although she was rescued with no more than a few scrapes, the terror of not knowing if she would survive left a resounding impact on her and is a major reason why she clings so tightly to her predestined story. It also gave her a fear of drowning and an aversion to being submerged or surrounded by water.
Canon Abilities or Powers: Apple can bring out the hero in everyone - all she has to do is smile, bat her eyelashes, maybe sing a few bars of a happy little song…and everyone from people to fuzzy woodland creatures are ready and willing to help her in any way they can. She could charm a goblin out of eating her with just a smile and a few kind words; throw in a cheerful song (and maybe a few friendly pigeons and chipmunks for harmony) and people start to look for nearby dragons and ogres to slay in her name.
(It's not 100% clear in canon if this is magic or not, so for the sake of rp-easiness, I'm gonna go with it being a kind of magic-enhanced super-charisma that gets nerfed with all the other magic abilities. Poor Apple, she's going to be surprised when people don't automatically jump to her aid anymore.)
On the non-magical side, Apple has had two years' worth of professional fairytale princessing training, from proper kingdom management to curtseying without losing your crown, not to mention a lifetime of royalty grinding it all in further. She has grace and poise up the wazoo (or whatever the princess equivalent of a wazoo is); she can hike over a mountain without getting all gross and dirty or having a single curl come out of place. Oh, and of course she has flawlessly smooth skin that never burns, a lovely singing voice, and the ability to dance 'til midnight without so much as breaking a sweat (or a heel). She is a fairytale princess.
Fairy Tale Role: The Evil Queen (Snow White)
Fairy Tale Powers or Abilities: The Evil Queen is best known for two things: mirrors and, of course, poison.
Mirrors - If a mirror contains a spirit/magical being/etc., Apple will be able to sense it, call it forth, and speak to it (although it may not necessarily be willing to do what she says).
Poison - Apple will find herself able to poison small objects just by touching them - most anything will work, although fruit takes it best. If someone ingests the poison (such as by pricking themselves, eating it, or otherwise entering it into their system somehow), they develop symptoms similar to food poisoning and a persistent wooziness. Fortunately this wears off in an hour or two, although it may not be soon enough for the unfortunate victim. (I'd like her to be a little haphazard with this ability at first before slowly gaining conscious control over it, shed a tear in advance for all the poor poisoned NPCs.)
Personal Items: her Legacy Day outfit, the accompanying handbag (containing her glasses, a spare makeup compact, and lots and lots of cried-on tissues), and her pet snow-fox, Gala.
First Person Sample:
[ The top quarter or so of the page is taken up entirely by two extremely large words, written in an overly-enthusiatic hand and almost more flourish than actual letters: ]
Dearest Diary,
[ …it seems Apple hasn't quite figured out yet that other people can read this book. Has she even bothered reading the other pages? …no, no she hasn't. ]
Don't tell anyone, but this nasty, awful, wicked-as-a-witch trick has managed to get even worse! I still don't know who's behind this - even Raven wouldn't be so viciously mean-spirited! Probably! - but when I find out, they are going to be royally sorry!
It's bad enough that everyone is calling me "your wickedness" and "dark majesty" and everything (so not charming) but when I got so tired of it and asked where I could just lay down, they were all like "in the castle, venomous one" (sigh) and brought me to this…place. This gross, smelly, dark, wicked-witch place that isn't anything at all like a proper princess castle!! There's all these spiky towers and it's cold and there's bars on the windows! I tried to fling them open artfully to let in the sunshine and fresh air but they didn't budge! And there isn't even any wifi!
[ Apple's handwriting has gotten a little shaky at this point, but here it returns to its normal flourishy script. ]
I promised myself I was going to be the bigger person here and not let this awful prank get to me, and I just have to keep at it. Once they see that I can keep up the positive, can-do attitude that got me elected Royal Student Council head, I'm sure they'll give up and stop this ridiculousness! Then I can go home and get on with the story I'm supposed to be doing, and it'll be back on track and all roses and sunshine again! They can't keep this up forever-after!
...Maybe I'll redecorate. This place could use a sense of royal style. I'm sure some fresh flowers would look enchanting in the rusty cauldrons!
Third Person Sample:
Apple's toes were starting to hurt. Maybe she should've taken off her heels before she'd climbed up onto the chair? Or maybe it had something do with the chair being stacked on top of another chair, which was on top of a decorative side table.
Well, she'd be done in just a tick. A convenient spike jutted out from the ceiling in just the perfect place for the charming bunting she'd whipped up out of a bedsheet. It wasn't the cheery apple-red she'd hoped for, really more of a bloody-crimson shade (complete with suspicious stains), but it added a splash of color to the room and every little bit helped.
The smell of freshly-baked cookies filled her delicate nose and made her slightly-less-delicate stomach rumble, which in turn made her wobble a little more on the chair. She'd forgotten about her cookies! She'd had to rig up a makeshift oven over the fireplace, but the delectable scent was really doing wonders to improve the atmosphere already. Maybe this wouldn't be such a fairy-fail after all!
She reached up, stretched out, hooked the fabric on the spike, trying to stand on the very tips of her aching toes -
- but even princesses have trouble with heels sometimes, as Apple suddenly found out the hard way. Down she went admist ripping fabric and splintering furniture, scraping her knee and landing with a painful thunk on her poor backside. Her bunting lay on the floor, totally ruined, as her cookies began to burn.
"Oh - curses!" she swore, looking in a panic at the large mirror that took up almost half the opposite wall. All was well: her hair was still perfectly in place, her makeup intact, her crown not even an inch askew. Apple relaxed.
(For a moment - just a moment - she thought she saw something else in the mirror, but it was gone even before she'd finished registering it. A trick of the light, perhaps.)
She picked herself up, trying her best to be graceful despite her half-crushed toes, and rescued the cookies before they set the entire room on fire. Well, they were a bit - crisper - than she'd meant for them to come out, and she'd been aiming to get the bunting on the walls instead of the floor, but…she was a Snow White, gosh darnit, no matter what anyone in this awful place said, and a Snow never let a little mess get between her and her happily-ever-after.
Besides, maybe someone here liked half-burnt cookies.
