❅ Applications
Indefinitely.
To apply for a character, fill out the correct application down below and post it a comment on this entry. Please do not link applications in your journal or delete the comments once your application is processed. Let us know if you would like your application screened. Apps open on the first of every month and remain open for one week, during which time the mods will begin processing. We're optimistic and hope you'll get the result of your app within a day, but some may take longer depending on the familiarity of the mods with the canon, and the number of apps received in that cycle. If four or more days pass with no response then we suggest you contact a mod. You can reserve and apply for two characters per app cycle. Currently, players are allowed a maximum of three characters in-game at any given time. Applications will be judged primarily on the personality section of the character in question, and how the player intends to adapt them into their new role. For this part we're mostly interested in what you plan to do with their powers and new destiny, not how the character will react to it. We'll see that in-game! Since any OC applications must fall in the range of fairy tales that already exist in the world of Myth Making, these will be held to a higher expectation. Processing will result in applications being accepted or denied, or revisions requested. Don't worry if you're asked for revisions! It means we're interested in your app, but require more information about something. We'll let you know what that is. If you are asked for revisions, you'll be given one week to provide them. You are allowed to re-use sections of applications you wrote previously, so don't worry about rewriting your entire personality section. Do NOT plagiarise any part of another player's application for your own, as this will result in an instant ban. ✒ IC
Name: Starscream
Canon: Transformers Prime
Canon Point: Post-Deadlock, the season three finale, but before the major events of Predacons Rising.
Age: Unspecified, but canonically stated to be over "eons."
Personality:
The first impression we get of Starscream is when we witness him growling over the loss of energon, before murdering a prisoner for asking where his "master" was. This establishes several important facts about Starscream. First, that he is not a nice person, second, that power and prestige are important to him, and third, that he's prone to making temperamental and emotional-based decisions.
Let's start with that first point. Starscream is one of the major antagonists of the series, and his behavior usually follows through on that. Not only does Starscream kill a helpless prisoner, but he is prone to casual cruelty towards his own underlings, such as assaulting them, being verbally hostile, and at one point even killing one of his allies. He shows an obvious sadistic streak, smirking with pleasure when he tortures Wheeljack, and terrorizing the Autobots' human companions whenever they're in his claws.
Much of this ties into the second point, that power and prestige are important to him. Almost everything Starscream does is motivated by the desire for admiration and respect, and he tries to gain it either through throwing his weight around or through obvious sycophancy. For example, when Starscream is placed in charge of the Decepticons he always loses his temper whenever someone (a human, an Autobot, an Eradicon...) questions it. Then as time goes by and his position is worn down, we see him making foolish decisions in an attempt to please others, such as removing his armor when his underlings suggest he's a coward for using it. And regardless of his station, Starscream boasts. A lot. He brags to Airachnid about his history as an energon seeker, to MECH about his intellect and skills, and he'll tell anyone who's unwilling to listen about the time he killed Cliffjumper. A shame that absolutely nobody is interested.
Indeed, despite technically having a high position in the Decepticon chain of command, Starscream does not get much respect. Most of this can be chalked up to his personality, which, as others have gently put it, is volatile. He has difficulty controlling his emotions, frequently losing his temper, as we've mentioned, and getting visibly frantic whenever he's in a tight spot. Because he's so emotional and frankly, melodramatic, he has trouble making good decisions. Starscream is easily swayed by his fears and anxieties into retreating or, when he's feeling overconfident and wants to prove himself, charging headfirst into trouble without taking time to properly assess the situation.
This may lead one to believe that Starscream's just an idiot, but it would be more accurate to say he's simply an intelligent mech prone to poor decisions. He has, after all, pulled off some impressive things, such as working with a hodgepodge of resources in order to capture all four Omega Keys, or coming up with a scheme to make the Autobots destroy the Predacon clones for the Decepticons. And while Starscream might be melodramatic and prideful, he does have a pragmatic streak. He does not put himself above begging if it means saving his life, and when he takes command of the Decepticons he is capable of focusing on practical concerns, such as proper resource gathering.
Furthermore, over the course of the series Starscream does show concern for matters outside of himself. Although he spends the early parts of the show trying to kill Megatron off, after the events of season two Starscream re-pledges his loyalty and shows every sign of being genuine from then on. He also seems to care a little for the Decepticon medic, Knock Out, enough to tell him it was an honor serving together when they seemed close to death. (Though the friendship ends badly.) And when the Autobot Arcee spares his life, Starscream goes out of his way to repay her by saving her life. Although he may be self-centered, gratitude and loyalty are not entirely beyond Starscream.
More subtly, Starscream also seems to desire the revival of Cybertron as much as any Autobot. He appears horrified and enraged when the Omega Lock, seemingly the only way to repair Cybertron, is destroyed, and at one point makes a comment about how Cybertron was "little more than a graveyard now" with audible disgust in his voice. Power, it seems, is not the only thing that Starscream is interested in.
None of these more positive examples of his behavior come even close to invalidating his usual awfulness, but they do suggest that given the right character development, Starscream could be more than a short-sighted back-stabber. He has a very contradictory personality, capable of treachery and loyalty, cunning and foolishness, melodrama and pragmatism. It would take a very wise person to be able to handle him. And patience. Lots and lots of patience.
History:
Here. Since the Transformers Aligned continuity is not as... consistent as one would desire, we're only taking the section under Prime Cartoon as canon.
Canon Abilities or Powers:
Canonically, Starscream is a giant alien robot who lives off of a substance called energon. He is thus much stronger and faster than the average human and could kill one merely by not watching where he steps. He also has a higher resistance to extreme conditions, such as those in the Antarctic, although he doesn't find extreme temperatures comfortable and he cannot survive under strenuous circumstances indefinitely. He also does not need to breathe. (Although this doesn't seem to stop him from doing things like wheezing and gasping when he's emoting.)
A biomechanical organ known as a transformation cog, or t-cog, allows Starscream to transform into a jet plane. The jet plane form is known as his altmode, and he can change his altmode by scanning vehicles compatible with his build. (So for instance, he might be able to scan another kind of jet plane, but not a car or motorcycle.) Although he has wings in his robot mode, he can only fly in his altmode. Starscream is very proud of his flying skills and is considerably more agile in the skies than he is on the ground.
His t-cog is also connected to his weapons system, allowing Starscream to transform his arms into laser blasters. Shots from his laser blasters can do a decent amount of damage, although he has a preference for using his missiles or his claws. His missiles are mounted on his forearms when he is in robot mode, and he does not need his t-cog to use them, although once fired they have to be replaced. He can also use his missiles when in his altmode. And finally, his claws are basically his hands- Starscream's fingers are long and sharp, and tough enough to slice through solid metal, and he will literally rip open his opponents with them. As with his missiles, his claws do not need a t-cog to be usable.
On a more intellectual note, Starscream is fairly intelligent and has advanced knowledge of science, engineering, and Cybertronian biology. Essentially, he's going to have much more skill with electronics than the majority of the human population. A downside is that he's used to working with Cybertronian tech, and he'll probably have difficulty working with much more limited technological resources.
Having spent what seems to be most of his life working as a soldier and the first lieutenant of a military faction, Starscream does have a good grasp on combat and military tactics. Although not an especially tough melee opponent he can be very cunning, prefers to fight dirty, and can do a surprising amount of damage from a distance. His greatest problem is probably his inability to keep his emotions in check, which can easily cloud his judgement.
Fairy Tale Role: Jack of the Lantern. (Stingy Jack)
Fairy Tale Powers or Abilities: As Jack of the Lantern, he is doomed to roam the world until the end of eternity, with only the light of his lantern to guide him. Being technically already dead, he can't die again, whether from hunger, injuries, or sickness, although those will affect him. So for example, if he fails to fulfill his energon needs on a regular basis, he will feel as though he is starving to death and suffer all the ill-effects of starving to death, except for the part where he actually dies.
More noticeably, Jack of the Lantern possesses an ember from the fires of hell. This ember cannot burn out and produces enough light to see by, although touching it with your bare hands will burn you. It marks him as Jack of the Lantern, and even if he makes an effort to he will be unable to lose it. Since it burns him at the touch, he'll be storing it in a carved-out turnip lantern for the time being.
Because he is doomed to roam, Jack of the Lantern cannot settle down in the same place for two nights in a row. After he stays overnight in a single location, Jack of the Lantern will feel compelled to move onto somewhere different. If he tries to resist the compulsion to wander, his ember will burn him until he starts to wander once again.
Finally, his soul (or "spark" as he'll prefer to call it) cannot be traded, taken, stolen, or otherwise possessed, by the Devil or any of his associates. Essentially, even if he attempts to sell his soul to the forces of Hell, they will not accept it as legal tender.
Personal Items: Nothing- since he's being shrunk down to fit into the world, he won't even be taking the missiles he usually carries on his forearms.
First Person Sample:
[The writing is a little shaky, as if the writer isn't entirely sure of what they're doing, but legible.]
If my observations are correct, this "Jack of the Lantern" book is in truth a bizarre form of communications device. And an unimpressive one at that. I will give it this however: it is obviously more advanced technology than what is available in the rest of this [Pause.] place.
What remains to be seen is whether or not this book is actually useful. If anyone out there is reading this, I am requesting information. Anything you can tell me about where we are, why we are here, and who exactly is responsible for all of this, would be appreciated. Provided of course that it's not more of the same nonsense the fleshlings in Märchenstraße were babbling on about.
If you can supply me with any information of value you can, of course, expect the favor to be returned
eventually.- Cmdr. Starscream
[The signature has a bit more flourish to it than is probably strictly necessary.]
Third Person Sample:
Starscream had not been having a very good day.
One could even deem it dreadful. Call him fussy, but Starscream didn't like waking up to find himself minus his t-cog and several feet in height, surrounded by overly cheerful fleshlings on an entirely different planet from the one he'd thought he'd been on. It was upsetting and disconcerting, and when Starscream was upset and disconcerted he tended to do things like shriek and attempt to claw people's faces off. This had at least gotten rid of the overly cheerful fleshlings, although they had been kind enough to toss a book and a giant turnip at him. The book had hit one of his wings, while the turnip had smacked into his chest.
After pausing to hyperventilate and calm himself down, he'd picked up the objects he'd been assaulted with. The turnip had been hollowed out and two eyes and a crooked grin had been carved out of the side. Through the gaps, a bright orange light shone through. It reminded Starscream of those things he'd seen pictures of on the human internet. What were they called? Pumpkins? Jack lanterns? Either way it seemed to be of no use, so he placed it back on the ground and turned his attentions to the book.
However, the book proved to be equally unhelpful. It was of a medium thickness, bound with a plain green cover and back. Written in gold lettering on the spine were the words Jack of the Lantern. This had seemed promising enough- perhaps it had a connection to the turnip they'd tossed at him- but all of the pages inside were blank.
With a frustrated grumble, Starscream stuffed the book under his arm and turned in a circle. Seeing a human city from this perspective somehow made them more alien; everything was more or less proportionate for someone his size, or at least a bit shorter, but the materials and styles of the buildings were nothing Cybertronian in origin. All he could think, beneath the rising panic, was... why? Why was he here? And how in the name of Primus had this happened?
Perhaps chasing away those humans hadn't been the best plan after all...
[And some more examples here.]
