❅ Applications

Applications are: CLOSED
Indefinitely.

To apply for a character, fill out the correct application down below and post it a comment on this entry. Please do not link applications in your journal or delete the comments once your application is processed. Let us know if you would like your application screened.

Apps open on the first of every month and remain open for one week, during which time the mods will begin processing. We're optimistic and hope you'll get the result of your app within a day, but some may take longer depending on the familiarity of the mods with the canon, and the number of apps received in that cycle. If four or more days pass with no response then we suggest you contact a mod.

You can reserve and apply for two characters per app cycle. Currently, players are allowed a maximum of three characters in-game at any given time.

Applications will be judged primarily on the personality section of the character in question, and how the player intends to adapt them into their new role. For this part we're mostly interested in what you plan to do with their powers and new destiny, not how the character will react to it. We'll see that in-game!

Since any OC applications must fall in the range of fairy tales that already exist in the world of Myth Making, these will be held to a higher expectation.

Processing will result in applications being accepted or denied, or revisions requested. Don't worry if you're asked for revisions! It means we're interested in your app, but require more information about something. We'll let you know what that is. If you are asked for revisions, you'll be given one week to provide them.

You are allowed to re-use sections of applications you wrote previously, so don't worry about rewriting your entire personality section. Do NOT plagiarise any part of another player's application for your own, as this will result in an instant ban.

Test drive memes will go up on our meme comm, [community profile] mythmemes, the same day reserves open!

Do you play anyone in Myth Making?: No

IC
Name: Battler Ushiromiya
Canon: Umineko no Naku Koro ni
Canon Point: EP4
Age: 18

Personality:
Whatever Battler is thinking is often written right on his face. He has a very open personality, and hardly ever holds in what he's really thinking. First and foremost, he has a very deep love for anyone close to him, namely his family. He will do anything for his family, and he enjoys being around his cousins and laughing with them the most. However, he feels a bit bitter towards his father at times, hence why he had left the family for six years. He was so furious at his father for going off and remarrying so quickly that he went to live with his grandparents on his mother's side. When he returned back to the Ushiromiya side, he put those kinds of feelings to the side. He's a man who's not afraid to cry in front of not only his family but those that are close to him. He’s a very emotional person, and there are plenty of times when his emotions get the better of him. Generally when he feels like he’s been backed into a corner during the course of the games, he’ll just put his head in his hands and begin to wail and shout about it.

Battler has this obsession with trying to be a gentleman, or even someone like a knight. In more than one occasion, he will walk up to women and continuously praise them, even going so far as to say very embarrassing lines to them. Such actions are why he is popular with the women at his school. Examples of such chivalry would be, telling the girls he will arrive on a white horse and take them away, or that he will save such a damsel in distress as them. If anyone else were to listen in on his compliments, he would then immediately turn red, and wish he hadn't even said it in the first place. All in all, he is a very kind man, and he truly believes in treating women with utmost respect, at least deep down he does.

On the surface however, he is an extreme pervert. Even though he wouldn't do anything over the top to a woman, he still likes to talk about them in perverted ways, or even try to do something perverted. He openly talks about women's chests, or topics centered around their body. Even though he talks about them like this, even if he gets close enough to grab at their chests, he still wants them to hit him. He believes that women need to some themselves for when they’re really in love with someone. When he was moving closer to touch Shannon’s chest and she didn’t hit him, he was becoming flustered since he actually thought he might be able to do it. He was smacked by Jessica in the end to stop such antics, and he thanked her for it, since that was a close call and he wasn’t going to be able to stop himself. Women are his one true weakness, and it would even go so far that sometimes he is blinded by the truth because a woman is in his way.

All that about him being a pervert though, it melts away as soon as his anger takes over. He is a very temperamental person, and it doesn't take much to sway his mood from being overly happy, to suddenly furious. His beliefs are very strong and if anyone opposes that, he's not afraid to stand up and say what he believes in. Fighting is another thing that comes naturally to him, he's a born fighter, he loves to argue with someone. Since he likes to read books centered around mysteries, no matter how much he tries to deny it, he likes to think up theories in different and exciting ways. One of his strong beliefs is that magic is not real, and everything can be solved by human means. He hates losing, so fighting until the bitter end is something he is definitely prepared to do.

Although Battler prefers to act like an idiot most of the time, he’s actually able to slow down and think about things from different perspectives. One of his favorite sayings is to ‘flip the chessboard over.’ Meaning to look at something from another angle, and see if it’s possible to come up with a different reasoning. He first heard such a thing from Kyrie, who then went on to explain its meaning in full. Battler does have the ability to think about someone else’s point of view and see just what they’re talking about, but due to his stubborn attitude, often times that sort of reasoning slips his mind. If he somehow is able to calm himself down, he soon becomes more intelligent than when he gets riled up and screams about topics. All in all, he’s smart when he wants to be- but hardly comes through and shows that side of him.

During the course of the games, Battler had been fighting with Beato the entire time over his family and just how each of them were murdered, by human ways of course. However, he tends to have a habit of forgiving or accepting someone easily, even if they had wronged him in the past. This could be seen as a good thing, someone so accepting that they’ll even put aside all of their flaws and see the good person underneath everything. Most of the time his logic doesn’t make sense in this department however, and it ends up costing him big. In the third game Battler had started to trust Beato more since she had started to act like she really just wanted to be a good witch for him and he believed her. Turns out she was faking, and such a big trick hurt him dearly- he had truly trusted that she had seen the error of her ways and would stop such tricks. He was wrong, and he soon sulked about it for a while before going back to his regular headstrong attitude.

After Battler had witnessed Beato being crushed by his own powers at the very end of the fourth game, he soon realized that there must be more to this game than what he had initially thought. After musing over such thoughts to himself, he soon understood what Beato had really been trying to tell him and forgave her for everything she had put him through. Just like that, Battler is able to forgive a person for doing such heinous things to him, merely because he sees from their side that they had a motive for such a thing. He’s an all too forgiving character- and on top of that too trusting. With these aspects combined, he wonders why people continue to betray him time and time again- but it’s because he’s too trusting of a person to see when someone is being cruel to him.

Even though he’s an intelligent young man, Battler often has tunnel vision, and only focuses on what’s in front of him at the time. Even if there’s something else bothering him, he’s easily able to put such a thing to the side and just focus on what he’s doing at the moment. When Ange had died before him during the fourth game, he was devastated over something as dramatic and traumatizing as that. As soon as he realized what he had to do, he pointed at the witch before him and declared war on her. After their battle however, it was as though Battler had completely forgotten about his sister which had sacrificed herself for him mere moments ago. He was just focused on the injured witch in front of him, and vowed he would solve her mystery for her- and find out who she really was. He had been so passionate about his sister dying, but as soon as something else came along- he soon pushed something like that to the back of his mind. He had not forgotten about it, he just focused on something other than dwelling on that twisted sacrifice.

As stated before, even though Battler acts like a shameless pervert, he still prefers to say that everyone needs to find love in their life. He often pities people who have not experienced love, and hopes they could find something as wonderful as it. He’s a little pushy with the topic, since he’s so passionate about it, but he’ll back off if he realizes the person can’t exactly understand the concept right away. After he had fallen in love with Beato following the fifth game, he had looked down upon those who didn’t share the same kind of intense love that he had. When one of the witches- Erika, asked him to hurry up with his game, he just glared at her and asked her if she even had love. She scoffed at him and told him it was stupid, and he just stopped talking about such a thing and gave her a nasty stare. He has a big heart, and openly shares it with everyone. He’s usually called soft or an idiot- but he doesn’t care, he takes pride in who he is and continues to act that way.

Generally one wouldn’t know what kinds of things Battler is in to, since he hardly speaks about his hobbies. However, he enjoys a great deal of reading and absorbing random knowledge. There are different bits of information he knows here and there that often times no one else would know. He prefers to read mystery novels, even when he was young he adored to read- and it usually takes him a day to complete a book. Battler mentioned before that he reads about one hundred books a year, and that could range from his precious mystery novels to different text books.

Canon Abilities or Powers:
Extended knowledge: Even though Battler may not look or sound like it, he’s actually very smart. Since he’s an avid reader, he knows a lot of random facts about different topics. On more than one occasion in the novel, someone has brought up a point and Battler brings up historians to support such a claim. An example would be around the third game, Battler went into the rose garden for a while and Virgilia started to speak with him. The two of them started to talk about different topic, and Battler told Virgilia that “things burn due to a chemical reaction. The phlogiston theory should have been disproved by Lavoiser,” and so on.

Stronger than most: Battler has mentioned during the beginning of the novel that he used to weight train, along with different ways of getting more fit. He’s athletic, and big guy to boot. Battler stands at about 5’11. At the end of the fifth game he demonstrated that he at least has some fighting capabilities, like when he was dubbed the gamemaster and knew just how to handle a sword. Battler’s no pushover when it comes to fighting, however he still prefers to fight with his words rather than his body.

Path to righteousness: Battler seems to have this innate sense for things that should be right and wrong. Since he is a fan of all things knightly, he has a strong sense for justice. If there’s something wrong with someone, he’ll feel the need to try and help them out- going out of his way to do so.

Who wants to play clue?: Since he's been fighting in all these different games with Beato, Battler has the ability to think up random and almost impossible scenarios in his head and relate them back to the mystery at hand. For example, in the third game there was a time when the first Twilight occurred, and he had to come up with a theory as to how all six corpses appeared in locked rooms. He soon came up with the twisted theory that one of them killed everyone and while the culprit was moving to another room, a trap was sprung and person X died. Beato was unable to repeat that in red and had to retreat to come at Battler from another angle.

The power of Blue: While Battler is just a regular human, he does gain the ability to use certain weapons to fight off witches. Even though this is entirely a move which is used in logic battles, Battler can use something called Blue Truth. In the Umineko canon there are rules that go along with these sets of text. One side, specifically the witches, can use the red text at their disposal. Red text is used when something is absolute truth and cannot be questioned as a lie. The blue, however, is a claim used to come up with a theory specifically to counter that truth. In short, using this technique is crucial for fighting back opponents in his world. While in purgatory there are logic fights constantly happening, and the best way to describe the use of the blue would be to counteract another set of text. An example would be when Beato is attempting to back Battler into a corner, she would tell him everyone locked in the room died, and Battler would have to dispute her truth. He could have a come back and say, but everyone died at different times, therefore one could say that the culprit was in the room as well before being killed. If whatever he says with the blue counters the red successfully, it would be his win in that and he could very well harm the opponent. At one point during the fourth game, Battler and Beato's fight escalated so badly that his blue truth had actually turned into forms of spear, skewering her every time he was successful in pushing her back.

Over nine something: Battler possesses extremely high anti-magic toxin. In the Umineko world there is a certain scale which indicates the level of magical resistance. Normally, the scale only goes up to eight digits, and only a select few have ever reached the level of nine digits. Apparently, the only one that have been able to reach that kind of anti-magic power are gods. Battler on the other hand, reached that level on his own. To top it off, all of his digits are nines, making his anti-magic resistance to be 999999999. With this kind of power basically anything magical is rendered useless against him, like a permanent barrier so he won't get hurt while fighting the witches in purgatory. He didn't have this kind of power in the beginning, he recently gained it while fighting an opponent in the third game. This came about after a lot of thinking on his part, what he was really fighting for, and when he got serious then this number rose to the level it is now. This ability was brought to fruition when the Siestas attempted to skewer Battler with their magical arrows. They shot it at him and it simply bounced off, shrieking over his Endless Nine powers, but Battler hardly even noticed what they had been trying to do.

Fairy Tale Role: The Green Knight
Fairy Tale Powers or Abilities: The Green Knight is a strong and charming young man. He possesses combat skills which are imperative for a knight. He can take the form of a bird, able to transform back into a human whenever he desires. In the story, the knight had given the princess a book, and when she read all the lines of the poem within everyone slept and the prince entered her room as a bird. He's able to be summoned by whoever reads all of those lines, and speak with them until the book is closed. It isn't exactly stated that he has any other abilities, but it's been shown in depictions that he knows how to ride horseback.

Personal Items:
Besides the clothes on his back, Battler doesn't carry any personal items.

[Battler is seen holding the camera up to his face, frowning as he fiddles with it.]

So I don't really know what's going on here, but I woke up and found myself in this weird place. Come on...this is another witch's game, isn't it? You’re just trying to get me riled up again, but I won’t fall for it this time...! You may have gotten me in the past you bastards, but this time I’m more determined than ever.

Even though... w...wait... Wait- how can Beato do something like this if I... [he stops, thinking for a second.] ...then this has to be one of those other witch's that did this, yeah...! Yeah that's right-! Aahh it's useless! This is definitely useless...! Such a game shouldn't exist...! It looks like I'm not even on Rokkenjima anymore!

Come on out, all you witches who keep torturing me! Don't you have anything better to do...?! This is a game between me and Beato, not you guys! I-it was you ...you witches who put me here...right...?! Kuh....! Don’t tell me this is random fragmeeeeent....! Come on come on! You're going to have to do better than thaaaat!! I swear I'll come find you and I’ll-- [The feed seems to cut off while he's in the middle of his tantrum.]
