❅ Applications

Applications are: CLOSED
Indefinitely.

To apply for a character, fill out the correct application down below and post it a comment on this entry. Please do not link applications in your journal or delete the comments once your application is processed. Let us know if you would like your application screened.

Apps open on the first of every month and remain open for one week, during which time the mods will begin processing. We're optimistic and hope you'll get the result of your app within a day, but some may take longer depending on the familiarity of the mods with the canon, and the number of apps received in that cycle. If four or more days pass with no response then we suggest you contact a mod.

You can reserve and apply for two characters per app cycle. Currently, players are allowed a maximum of three characters in-game at any given time.

Applications will be judged primarily on the personality section of the character in question, and how the player intends to adapt them into their new role. For this part we're mostly interested in what you plan to do with their powers and new destiny, not how the character will react to it. We'll see that in-game!

Since any OC applications must fall in the range of fairy tales that already exist in the world of Myth Making, these will be held to a higher expectation.

Processing will result in applications being accepted or denied, or revisions requested. Don't worry if you're asked for revisions! It means we're interested in your app, but require more information about something. We'll let you know what that is. If you are asked for revisions, you'll be given one week to provide them.

You are allowed to re-use sections of applications you wrote previously, so don't worry about rewriting your entire personality section. Do NOT plagiarise any part of another player's application for your own, as this will result in an instant ban.

Test drive memes will go up on our meme comm, [community profile] mythmemes, the same day reserves open!

[personal profile] flameofouka 2014-01-07 04:53 pm (UTC)(link)

Personality:

We could say that Kurei used to be a sweet kid, if you think little boys who stab their baby brothers are sweet. Being raised in an environment of power struggles, war and blackmail would screw any child up. He was never an emotional person, even as a child. Cold, cruel and with no qualms about getting his hands dirty, he will stop at nothing to achieve his goals. The atrocities he committed throughout the series include kidnapping an innocent girl, torturing said girl, almost killing his little brother and killing a lot of other people.

Strangely enough, Kurei never fought alone. He kept both friends and enemies physically close, as the Uruha was composed of loyal (often self-proclaimed) friends, backstabbers and those who were just in it for the ride. For example, while he had the loyalty of Raiha who was a descendant of the Hokage ninjas, he also knew that one of the sub-leaders of Uruha, Genjuro, was with him solely to be close enough to defeat him. He allowed a man like Joker to stay with him solely because Joker amused him, and found him to be loyal. He once had a subordinate named Mokuren who takes pleasure in torturing women, who proved to be disloyal. And did Kurei mind? Hardly. Mokuren had his purpose in his plan.

Because like his little brother, Recca, Kurei fights for the people he loves. Unlike Recca, he's willing to kill for the people he loves. Having lost his parents to the war and his lover to his own adopted father's sadistic plots, Kurei deliberately distances himself from the people he cares for. He did the cruel things that he did because his adoptive mother was being held hostage by his adoptive father, who used Kurei as a weapon. He knows that if Kouran ever found him caring for another person again, Kouran would take that person away and make them suffer. He has never recovered from the death of Kurenai, his lover and the only woman other than his mother that he showed his emotions to. He would rather not go through that again.

So how does Kurei treat the people he cares about (with the exception of his adoptive mother, to whom he's gentle and kind to)? If we take his relationship with his little brother as an example, he's rude, he's condescending and he will beat them to death if he knew it would prevent his little brother from walking the same path he walks now. As he said to Kurenai when she died "If a demon were to take you, let that demon be me." He knows that other men would be more cruel. At the very least, Kurei would give the person he defeats an honorable death. Despite everything he's been through, Kurei has a strong sense of honor. While he does not outright punish those who have been dishonorable to him (that's what his loyal subordinates are for), he does reward both friend and foe who exhibit this trait.

He is a mystery to most people that he meet. Perhaps the people who know him the most are his three most loyal, surviving subordinates: Raiha, Joker and Neon, and his adopted little brother, Kaoru. Raiha's loyalty to Kurei stems from Kurei never blaming him for the sins of his ancestors (Hokage ninjas who ran off during the war instead of fighting), and instead respected his abilities as a ninja. Raiha would be the closest thing Kurei has to a best friend, if the two weren't stuck in their master and ninja roles. Joker was someone who joined Kurei on a whim but spent his last moments dying for Kaoru's safety. According to Joker, Kurei is a dishonest man who never said what he meant. Neon, who was once Kurei's maid, witnessed what he was like before Kurenai died, a man who kindly took in three orphan girls with no other place to go as his servants and treated his lover with a princely respect. Neon was in love with Kurei. They would have been lovers if Kurei had not feared for her safety if she stayed with him. Kaoru, like Neon, was someone Kurei adopted as a little brother after discovering his aptitude for solving puzzles. At first he thought it was just because Kaoru was the best wielder of the Kougan Anki madougu. But Kurei never ordered for his death even after Kaoru shifted loyalties. For Kaoru, Kurei was family, a big brother who trained him to fight and to use his gifts and apparent weaknesses to his advantage. In the end, despite all of Kurei's attempts to run away from the people who care for him, the acts of kindness that he showed these people and the strength that he gave them (some of their madougu were given by Kurei) were so memorable that they chased after him anyway.

Long story short, Kurei is a man who became cruel because he had to and has never gotten rid of that habit since.

History: here

Canon Abilities or Powers:

Like all Hokage leaders, Kurei has the ability to create and manipulate flames from his body. Unlike most Hokage leaders, the color of his flame is blue, which led him to be accused of being the cursed child and unfit to take over his father's position. The color of his flame doesn't give it any extra properties, nor is it a sign of him being cursed. (The real cursed child is his little brother, Recca.) Like his father, the form of his flame is a phoenix.

So aside from the ability to blast flames from his body with enough heat and intensity to melt through solid rock, Kurei also has the ability to give flame forms to the souls of the dead so that they may fight for him. These flame souls have the general appearance and abilities of their living selves. For example, the soul of a warrior who used scythes as a weapon would become a flame man who can do whatever he used to do with his flame scythes. If Kurei ever chose to give a flame form to a dead kitten, then he has a flame kitten that does kitten-y things. The flame souls still possess some autonomy and are not fully controlled by Kurei. He can summon and dissolve them at will.

As of his canon point, he has two main flame souls: Kurenai, who is the naked, winged soul of his ex-girlfriend, and Jisho, the soul of one of his most loyal and burliest swordsmen. Because Jisho used to wield huge twin swords that are drawn to each other through magical ninja magnets (I'm sorry, that really is the explanation of his weapon), his flame form can do just that. Kurei's preferred flame is Kurenai, who was never a fighter when she was still alive. But his love for her was so intense that she became the form and core soul of his phoenix flame. Aside being able to fly, shoot flames from her mouth and scream in a high and ear-shattering pitch, Kurenai is Kurei's hottest flame.

As a son of a ninja and adopted son of an underground crime boss, we can assume that he knows his weapons and he knows how to use them well. He was sometimes shown wielding blades in the series, though he really prefers using his flame. His running speed is so fast, it gives his opponents the illusion that there are many Kureis surrounding them.

I don't know why Kurenai's naked either, when she was clothed when he absorbed her soul. I don't think I want to know the explanation other than the mangaka is a pervert.

Fairy Tale Role: The Snow Queen from Hans Christian Andersen's The Snow Queen
Fairy Tale Powers or Abilities:

Power over ice and snow Perhaps it's safe to assume that whatever Kurei could do using his flames, he could do with ice and snow. Because ice has more form than flame, he could create more solid structures with it. He could give life to snow and ice creatures, but running on the same principle as his phoenix flame, he has to get souls for those creatures.

Charisma Just like the Snow Queen was able to get Kai to come with her with a kiss, Kurei can do the same. It's effectivity varies depending on the strength of his victim's will. Fortunately he is not an affectionate man unless you're his mother or his dead, naked and flaming ex-girlfriend.

Snow Bees Tiny, snowflake sized creatures that Kurei can use to spy on people. They don't do much, they're just snowflake spycams.

The obvious limitation to Kurei's Snow Queen powers would be the temperature. If it's too hot and dry to make ice, then he's practically powerless unless he can get a water source.

Personal Items:
- Thick, black robes
- A mask that has the reverse symbol of the Hokage on its forehead
- A katana with the Hokage symbol on its hilt

First Person Sample:

[[ ooc: I doubt that Kurei would start a text post on the network for simple introductions or inquiries, so let's run under the assumption that a little boy did make it to his ice palace. Let's also assume that he has an ice palace with the interior design of a tacky 90's anime villain.

PS. Mods, am I allowed to have him build a tacky, 90's anime villain ice palace/ villain lounge/ orphanage? ]]

A child has made it into my abode. He says his name is Kai. He refuses to leave my side.

[ Though it can neither be seen over text, nor felt in his handwriting, Kurei smiles a bit at that last sentence. ]

The ice palace is not a good place for a child. I shall not be responsible for his survival. To anyone who knows this boy, he might not return to you in one piece, if he chooses to return at all.

[ So take him back. This set-up reminds him too much of his little brothers (biological and adopted) back home. ]

Third Person Sample:

The first thing Kurei noticed when he arrived at Märchenstraße was that he felt cold, like his blood was replaced by snow and the breath beneath his mask was ice. And this was very strange, for Kurei was never cold. But his body took to it like it did to the heat, so while everything felt unnatural to him, his body functioned like it normally did.

Were those tiny snowflakes dancing in front of him, or were they just a trick of light? Kurei squinted at them and they didn't go away. They were neither harmful nor helpful, so they were ignored. He wasn't sure if it was safe enough to ask the villagers of this town. He wasn't completely sure of his surroundings and had to do a survey for himself. So he decided to consult the only person he could trust... Kurenai.

Kurenai?

Where was she?! He tried to summon her but he couldn't. He couldn't even summon a simple flame. The snowflakes danced in front of him, seemingly taunting him. He swats them away.

He reaches for the katana hidden beneath his cloak. He could be in a dream, he could be in an illusion. Or this could be as real as the scar on his face. It didn't matter now. Whoever had the gal to separate him from his beloved will pay.
