❅ Applications

Applications are: CLOSED
Indefinitely.

To apply for a character, fill out the correct application down below and post it a comment on this entry. Please do not link applications in your journal or delete the comments once your application is processed. Let us know if you would like your application screened.

Apps open on the first of every month and remain open for one week, during which time the mods will begin processing. We're optimistic and hope you'll get the result of your app within a day, but some may take longer depending on the familiarity of the mods with the canon, and the number of apps received in that cycle. If four or more days pass with no response then we suggest you contact a mod.

You can reserve and apply for two characters per app cycle. Currently, players are allowed a maximum of three characters in-game at any given time.

Applications will be judged primarily on the personality section of the character in question, and how the player intends to adapt them into their new role. For this part we're mostly interested in what you plan to do with their powers and new destiny, not how the character will react to it. We'll see that in-game!

Since any OC applications must fall in the range of fairy tales that already exist in the world of Myth Making, these will be held to a higher expectation.

Processing will result in applications being accepted or denied, or revisions requested. Don't worry if you're asked for revisions! It means we're interested in your app, but require more information about something. We'll let you know what that is. If you are asked for revisions, you'll be given one week to provide them.

You are allowed to re-use sections of applications you wrote previously, so don't worry about rewriting your entire personality section. Do NOT plagiarise any part of another player's application for your own, as this will result in an instant ban.

Test drive memes will go up on our meme comm, [community profile] mythmemes, the same day reserves open!

I'll withdraw my application for this round. I'm afraid I don't have any other ideas at all that would mesh with an otherwise difficult character to play.

Do you play anyone in Myth Making?: Naoto Shirogane | Persona 4 Golden

IC
Name: Shinjiro Aragaki
Canon: Persona 3 Portable
Canon Point: Following Graduation (and awakening from his coma)
Age: 17

Personality: When first introduced, Shinjiro is best summed up as a rough individual. He's crass and tough, hanging around some shady people in the Alleyways of Tatsumi Port Island. Of course, he does later beat them up when they hassle the Protagonist and friends looking for him to find out more about the recent school rumors, proving he has no qualms resorting to violence. As they are the new members of SEES, he gives them what little he knows and tells them to leave, not wanting them around to remind him of the old days.

At this point, we don't know that Shinjiro was an original member of SEES. He smiled, joked, and had a great deal of sarcasm, but his joining was unexpected. Mitsuru only recruited Akihiko originally, but Shinjiro forced himself in to make sure Akihiko would be alright. The two met years ago, growing up in the same orphanage and had become brothers; they were always there for each other. Following the loss of his sister in a fire, Akihiko became determined to become stronger to prevent losing more people he loved, but Shinjiro saw it his job to rein his friend in and make sure he didn't get too cocky. Unfortunately, looking after Akihiko, Shinjiro neglected reining in himself and lost control of his Persona while on a mission. It was something Akihiko had feared and now, it was reality. On that fateful night, Shinjiro took a young mother's life and left SEES shortly after.

His tough persona outwardly expressed covers up the more compassionate and gentle individual inside, eaten by guilt and willing to die if it means preventing more mistakes like his. He only joins SEES again to look after Ken and confront the younger male in order to try preventing him from taking his revenge. However, if Ken still wanted to go through with it, Shinjiro would let him. If Ken decided not to, Shinjiro was still going to die as a side effect of a drug suppressing his Persona's power.

Still, concern isn't only directed at Ken. While he is top priority, Shinjiro actually cares for all the members of the current SEES even if he has funny ways of showing it. He does small things like chides Akihiko about his constant Beef Bowl consumption (damn Protein Junkie), makes sure Fuuka doesn't destroy the kitchen, and even prepares Koromaru's food himself. The kitchen is actually Shinjiro's domain as he's a skilled chef. Also, he can't keep himself from revealing his big heart to animals especially dogs. It's due to this concern that it takes a while for him to come around to trusting people, the Protagonist especially as their leader in combat.

History: Shinjiro Aragaki on Megami Tensei Wikia

Canon Abilities or Powers: Shinjiro is built like a powerhouse both normally and through his ability to summon a Persona. Yes, he's one of the three original members of SEES having signed on after Akihiko did. However, he doesn't exhibit the same amount of control over it like Akihiko and Mitsuru which results in the accident which made him leave. His Persona, Castor, has no weaknesses or resistances, proving he's an all or nothing combatant. This is further exemplified by the fact all of Castor's abilities are physical attacks IE summon abilities that cost the user's Health Points. To counter this fact though, Castor can also counter attacks and restores Shinjiro's health by a certain percent each round.

Besides his Persona, Shinjiro relies on his own physical strength. He can withstand the brunt of most attacks and even Akihiko's fists (Akihiko being a trained boxer) and dish out worse in return. A single fist or headbutt can send the average guy flying or knock them flat on their ass. Also, it's worth noting that his weapon of choice is an axe which he typically carries with one hand over his shoulder.

Fairy Tale Role: The Older Brother from "The Two Brothers" by the Brothers Grimm (that's not a tongue twister)

Fairy Tale Powers or Abilities:
• Gold Production - Part of the tale has the twin brothers consume two bits (the heart and liver to be accurate) that fall from the golden bird. After eating these two pieces respectively divided between them, both brothers begin to wake up with a single gold coin beneath their heads every morning. It happens every time he sleeps, there's no helping it whether Shinjiro wants it to happen or not.

• Gift of Gab - Or the ability to speak to and befriend animals (if he wants). The tale has the two brothers hunt and spare a hare, a fox, a wolf, a bear, and a lion in that order. As a result, each brother is given the offspring of each animal as thank you and goes on to travel with them. Shinjiro will have the company of these animals, but considering how he already prefers animals to people. There's also a dog, but that one was a gift from their foster-father.

• Huntsman Skills - While already able to fight and a cook, he'll gain the marksmanship and swordsmanship abilities of his character as well as gain his weapons: one gun and a double-edged sword.

• Twin Illusion - Though Shinjiro may not look exactly like his twin or vise versa, it's like a momentary illusion that keeps people from telling them apart. Only once told apart will it be broken, but it resets every time upon meeting.

Personal Items: His beanie, his usual clothes (maroon pea coat, boots, pants, you know), a dented silver pocket watch, and that's it. He just recently got out of a coma.

First Person Sample:
Getting dragged into this shit grows old fast. 'Older Brother'. Last I checked, I'm not anyone's older brother. A guy can't rest easy anymore and these assholes aren't helping flocking around constantly.

[The writing stops for a moment. When animals can read, 'I wasn't talking about you' has to be repeated six times.]

If I find Aki and he's behind this, I'll kick his ass. Guess I can't do that if he isn't though. Dammit, what the hell's going on and how do I get out of it?

Do you play anyone in Myth Making?: Nope

IC
Name: Faris Scherwiz
Canon: Final Fantasy V
Canon Point: Early on, after getting separated from Syldra and the ship drifts into the Ship Graveyard. Note: At this canon point she still is unaware that she's royalty, though she has suspicions.
Age: 20.

Personality:
In canon, Faris is attributed with the element of fire, due to her courage. She's fiercely loyal and protective of those she cares about and recklessly jumps to their aid. When her sister (Lenna) is being accosted by hunters, even when the rest of the hero party is helplessly stuck on the other side of a chasm, Faris doesn't hesitate to leap across to save Lenna. Pre-canon, this courage earns her the respect of the pirates who raised her and she was made pirate captain by the age of fifteen for her heroics in rescuing their ship from being sucked into a whirlpool.

But being heroic and brave doesn't mean she's necessarily self-sacrificing. Before joining the heroes on their journey (and before learning that Lenna (the princess of Tycoon) is actually her sister), she initially considers taking Lenna for ransom, and initially when she does join them, it's because she wants to learn about her forgotten past. At the end of the game, instead of staying behind to take her place as the Queen of Tycoon, she opts to run off, and return to her life as a pirate, valuing her freedom more than any obligations she may have as a monarch.

To put it all simply, Faris lives by her own rules and her own moral code. While she prefers the nomadic life of a pirate, and doesn't really like to get wrapped up in the day-to-day trivialities of the kingdoms around her, she isn't so callous as to not care when the world is in danger. When she's chosen as one of the destined warriors to save the Crystals and the world, she falls into her role quickly and without complaint.

Having lived most of her life disguising her gender, Faris doesn’t exactly subscribe to traditional gender roles, and she's far from ladylike. She has a very "take it or leave it" sort of view on life and doesn't waste a lot of energy on what she thinks is trivial. When the party discovers that she is a woman, her response is little more than "Deal with it". (Galuf: Oh, my stars and comets! HE'S A SHE! Faris: Well- maybe I am! You got a problem with it!?)

While she's pretty rough around the edges when you first meet her, Faris does have a softer side to her (deep, deep down inside), and she cares deeply for those close to her. In the beginning of the game, when she discovers Lenna has an identical pendant, she is determined to figure out if she finally found her birth family, and she grows quite attached to her sister and her father. The sea dragon, Syldra is Faris' closest friend, and almost like a sister to her, and when she dies, Faris is heartbroken, and takes to quietly mourning her friend. The softer sides of her are few and far between, though, and she’s more likely to respond harshly, even when she really is worried (when Galuf is dying "Get up, you old bat! Quit playing around, this isn't funny!")

History: Herefinalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Faris_Scherwiz
TL:DR: Faris was born a princess but lost as sea as a child and raised as a pirate. Eventually discovers who she really is, helps save the world, and returns to her life as a pirate.

Canon Abilities or Powers: In the game, each crystal they find gives them new “jobs” to learn the skills from (i.e. black mage, white mage, thief, dragoon, etc). She's from early in the canon, after only getting the first crystal so the only jobs available to her would be Knight, Monk, Thief, Black Mage, White Mage and Blue Mage. but I'm fine with her losing any magical ability and just sticking with skill with a sword/normal pirate-y skills.

Fairy Tale Role: The Prince(ss?) (The Prince and the Pauper)
Fairy Tale Powers or Abilities: None really. The ability to pass as both nobility and commoner?

Personal Items: A sword, the clothes on her back, a pendant (that is identical to the pendant the princess of Tycoon wears)

First Person Sample:
[Pirates aren't well known for their love of books and writing, but Faris is a little more learned than others of her station. Still, when she finally takes to writing in the mysterious book with the magically appearing letters, her handwriting is unpracticed and sloppy. The text is rife with spelling errors.]

Prince huh?

Don't think this book is mine, but if you know the bloke who dropped it, let him know he can have it back-

[There's a significant pause before she adds:] For a small fee, of course.

[Sorry, Faris still has to eat, and this book ought to be worth at least a few gold (or whatever passes for gil around here).]

Quick question for nit-picky sort of clarification:

I know the characters don't have to be the same gender as the role they're taking on, but since Faris is a woman who disguises herself as a man, would she still be considered a Prince or would it switch to Princess? (i.e. if it ever comes up in game, which gender would her in-game kingdom be expecting her to be?)

Do you play anyone in Myth Making?: No

IC
Name: Gavroche
Canon: Les Misérables (Mostly musical but with some novel to pad him out and some movie canon such as canon point)
Canon Point: At the barricade; after his sister has died, while he is sent on an errand to deliver a note to Cosette for Marius
Age: Roughly 9 or 10

Personality: Gavroche has once been referred to as one of the most "appealing and tender characters in fiction." Clothing wise, Gavroche always looks scruffy, described in book as wearing his father's old trousers which come down to his heels. He is also underfed, though not to any extremely obvious extent, especially when compared with his siblings. He's happy to be a street urchin - gamin - through and through, knowing the streets of Paris extremely well, and claiming the whole city as his home. His hair is longish and unkempt, very certaintly matted. He is vaguely dirty but there is an attempt to seem as though he has been cleaned recently. That isn't to say that he is clean by any standard; it is simply that he has the appearance as though his face has met with clean water at some time in the last week. Appearance wise, he can generally be described as adorable with a cheeky smile. He appears to be the leader of a group of street children, refering to them as his 'kids' and generally taking care of them as though he were already an adult. This is a good way to think of Gavroche, as he certainly doesn't see himself as a child.

Gavroche has no real care as to how the outside world sees him. He may not be able too afford to eat every single day, but if he so chooses, he goes to the theatre every night. He appears to be the eyes and ears around the slums and other areas of Paris, and can be the one to provide necessary and important information to Les Amis d'ABC, such as the death of General Lamarque. As mentioned above, he is the leader of the gang of street children, and is proven to be the most capable of the bunch. He does not show his own fear at any time, gettiing to a point where you wonder if he feels fear, and generally acts as if he owns the town. In his mind, he is the Mayor of Saint Michel, and he acts in a manner that befits his own sense of self importance.

Gavroche is also a fiercely proud revolutionary, believing in the Republic with a fervor that few adults seem able to claim. He proudy wears the tri-colour rosette each and every day, and generally seems quite capable of keeping his ear to the ground when it comes to the political situation of the city. He sees Les Amis d'ABC as friends, though he is more of a believer in 'something for you, something for me' rather than someone who begs for charity. Among the Amis he is closest to Courfeyrac or Grantaire (depending on the production), and seems to be fairly well respected by them in return for his providing information. The Amis are not Gavroche's only connection, he does have family. He is the eldest son of M. and Mme Thérnadier, and has an elder sister, Éponine. However, he doesn't really pay much mind to his family, and vice versa. He may go to see them once in a while, but he does not live with them, nor rely on them to get by in the world.

On the inside, Gavroche is very similar to the presentation he gives to the outside world. He is a happy child, bringing happiness and humanity into situations where he enters with his purity of spirit. This is shown by his actions. While everyone else in Les Misérables are hardened characters, Gavroche shows kindness to everyone he meets, once giving away a shawl that was the only thing keeping him warm in winter to a girl older than him as she appeared to be cold.

Gavroche only really has one 'enemy'; Javert, who he sees as being the complete opposite of all that he believes in; strict, unbending order in comparison to Gavroche's own unruly imaginativeness. He is one of the strongest believers in the Republic, and one of the few at the barricade who did not even need to think about leaving when offered the chance to before the shooting started. Gavroche aimed to see the thing through successfully, and he wasn't leaving until he had done so.

He is rather dissmissive of police and authority in general, be this from being a street urchin, or simply from his belief that those in power are doing nothing to help the everyday folk of France. He does not exactly believe in charity either, believing more along the lines of something for you, something for him. Whether this is a trait of being a Thérnadier isn't entirely clear, but it does appear to be a philiosophy that Gavroche follows

History: Gavroche on Wikipedia

Canon Abilities or Powers: Gavroche has no real powers or abilities, unless one considers the ability to look after himself extraordinarily well, considering his young age and that fact that he lives during one of the most turmulent times of France's history. Gavroche is a highly capable young person, able to look after not only himself, but any other kid that comes around. He is talented at being able to get money and food for himself, and rarely has to go 'on the rob'.

Fairy Tale Role: Peter Pan.
Fairy Tale Powers or Abilities: As Peter, Gavroche would be able to fly without any sort of aid. This would be amazing to Gavroche on it's on, but with it comes a sort of easy grace, the ability to move himself in a fluid like manner. Also, as Peter, Gavroche will find that his skills with a blade have rapidily improved, as Peter must be able to fight off the grown up pirates. He can also achieve a range of vocal mimicry, the best to confuse the evil pirates with.

It may also be prudent to suggest that as Pan, Gavroche would seemingly have the ability to converse with mermaids and faeries, and a strong ability to make-believe anything within reason. As he would not be in the actual Neverland, this ability would obviously be limited, and it would also be limited by Gavroche's own reluctance to believe in something so fantastical

Personal Items: Gavroche doesn't really have any personal items apart from his clothes on his back, the shoes on his feet, and his little tricolour rosette.

First Person Sample:

Do you play anyone in Myth Making?: Not yet!

IC
Name: Eponine Thenardier (though she’ll give her name as Eponine Jondrette too)
Canon: Les Miserables
Canon Point: The end of the chapter called ‘The Watch Dog), which is basically when she leads Marius to Cosette, and prevents her father and his gang from robbing Cosette’s house. In the musical (though I am going off the book canon, this might be a helpful reference point if you’ve not trawled through the novel) this equates to ‘A Heart Full of Love’, followed by ‘The Attack on the Rue Plumet’.
Age: Eponine’s age is unclear. Hugo gives her various ages, from 16 through to 18. She is said to look older than what she actually is, ‘a hideous mix of fifteen and fifty’, apparently.

Personality: Eponine began life as a spoiled brat. She was an odious child, with long, dark braids and a plump, pretty face, dressed in the best clothes her mother could provide. Doted on and indulged by everyone, including the drunkards in the inn, Eponine grew used to getting her own way in everything. And she absolutely loved to show off in front of Cosette and make her jealous. She actively sought to get Cosette in trouble with her mother and found it funny when the poor little girl was beaten. She also established herself as a leader; her little sister looked up to her in admiration and followed Eponine’s lead. It was clear that at this early age, Eponine ruled the roost.

With her dramatic lifestyle shift, so too did her personality change. It was forced to. It is impossible to chart the events which made her personality change, because of the ten year gap in the narration of her tale, but it is, of course, possible to see how her personality affects her actions when the narrative begins again.

Re: Eponine Thenardier - Les Miserables - Unreserved

[personal profile] gardienne 2013-12-07 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Eponine’s tough. She’s had to be. She has grown up in a hostile environment, where the philosophy of ‘every man for himself’ is predominant. She knows how to stand up for herself, and she is not one to back down in an argument. This is shown in the manner with which she deals with her father and the gang on the Rue Plumet. Her father calls her a bitch, the other men deride her and threaten her with knives and fists, and she carries on shouting back and jeering at the men. She lets their comments slide over her head, perhaps indicating she is used to the name calling. She carries herself well, and can talk to most people. Her chatter comes across as awkward at times, or even inappropriate. She flirts with Marius as best she can– but again, it comes across as awkward. Hugo describes her as a trapped bird flitting around Marius’ room, a melancholy and desperate sight. Uncomfortable amongst wealth now, she tries to fit in, but ultimately cannot. She is nervy. She speaks more than she should to people she doesn’t know, and is very open about herself and her life. Within minutes of meeting Marius, she tells him about her suicide consideration. Her words come without a great deal of thought, in a tangle of argot slang and French when she’s nervous. The more in control she tries to seem, the more ladylike she tries to act, the more it comes off as an act, a sham– sheer desperation. Hugo says that Eponine might have been gay and flirtatious, like any proper society miss, as her exuberance and feistiness bubbles from her, despite her drab life– but the reality of being poor has rendered her uneducated and out of her depth in social situations with her ‘betters’. Eponine longs to be a lady, but by the end of her story, she realises it’s something she’ll never be able to attain.

She’s not much use in a fight, and relies more on her tongue to get out of situations. When Eponine knows a person well, she’ll talk back at them, jousting with words, even if they threaten physical violence. She herself does not rely on physically fighting; she knows she is weak from starvation and in a world of men, she never has the power to win physically. Eponine reacts to danger by facing it head on and without flinching. She will accept violence against herself as well as she can, with her head raised high and a glare in her eyes. Eponine is very difficult to scare; her life has desensitised her to a lot of horror. She’s seen things, in prison and out, that no teenager should ever see, and she’s experienced more abuse and hardship than a lot of people will ever see. She is also very good at hiding any signs of her fear too. Fear is considered a weakness in the Underworld, and Eponine quickly learned to hide that particular emotion a long time ago. She will talk back at those who wish her harm, and she will unashamedly flirt and talk candidly to them. She lets insults wash over her head; she has heard so many insults in her time that they simply don't bother her any more.

Some would describe Eponine as cold– but she’s not, not really. It’s a show, an act she puts on, so people don’t try to mess her about. She seems to react with indifference to a lot of things– she’s world-weary and brow beaten so much that she finds it difficult to be enthusiastic enough to show her emotions in her actions. She can barely smile, barely cry. But deep down, Eponine is an emotional little creature. She’s completely in love– or no, not love, but lust. She’s in lust with Marius, a student, who doesn’t return, or even acknowledge her feelings. I say lust because I truly believe that Eponine’s life has stunted her emotional ability. She is unable to truly love because she has never known love. Marius, for Eponine, is an escape from her life. He is a living fairytale prince that she falls instantly for. He is generous, he gives her food and money, and he doesn’t offer her violence and name calling. Compared to her usual companions, he is soft and well spoken– and he reminds Eponine of the life she SHOULD have had. Eponine craves love though. It’s what drives her. Show her any hint of kindness, and she becomes a lapdog, eager to please and willing to do anything, even if it causes her physical or emotional pain– shown in the way she agrees to lead Marius to Cosette, despite quite wanting to keep the two apart for her own selfish gain. But, knowing Marius would be unhappy without Cosette, she agrees to show him the way. Eponine wants attention. She laughs inappropriately and says the wrong thing a lot of the time. She’s outspoken and will say what she thinks, regardless of the consequences.

Eponine is defiant. She hates what her father makes her do, but she has to participate. Still, she does it all with a glare in her eyes and her mouth pressed into a hard line. She often shouts back before giving in– demonstrated in her apartment. Thenardier wants Eponine to wait in the snow outside, and she is quick to point out that she has no shoes and her feet will freeze and she’s sarcastic– but ultimately bows to his wish. The exception is when she is protecting Marius. She stands up to her father and the Patron Minette properly for the first time and it costs her her home and her family alliance, essentially leaving her destitute. Eponine’s love for Marius is greater than any love or fear that she has for her Papa.

She does what she has to do to survive. She can be incredibly manipulative, if she thinks she will gain from it. Eponine says that most people believe what she says; I’m guessing that the exceptions tend to be those in authoritative positions in Paris. She is incredibly brave and doesn’t seem to have a great sense of personal danger. Eponine will face any adversity that comes to her head on; it is not really in her nature to hide. And she will face her fate with a straight back and a defiant glare. Nobody will feel pity for Eponine. She is brave till the very end. She is not stupid, though. She’s practical. If there is a way to avoid a beating, either through lies or staying away for a night, Eponine will take that option. After all, as she says, ‘there’s no point in looking for a beating I could avoid, is there?’ She is pretty much fearless though – the only thing that seems to truly scare her are the monsters in her head.

Eponine is loyal. If she feels obliged to someone, she will bow to their will, whether she agrees with their actions or not. This is seen particularly with her Papa and the Patron Minette. She is more loyal to those who show affection towards her than those who intimidate her, though. A lot of the time, she’s scared and she’s wary, and she has the same cautious expression as a hunted animal.

She doesn’t consider herself to be at all beautiful; she thinks she’s disgusting, and that she doesn’t deserve a happy life. Eponine loathes herself. She hates everything about herself, from the dirt she is encrusted in, to the criminal that her Papa has turned her into. She cannot see anything positive about herself at all; but she forces herself to continue with life. She loves mirrors, and will stand and stare at her reflection, pinking and preening, remnants of her childish vanity. This is evidenced when she goes into Marius’ room to check he is not there, and tells her father she is searching– whilst she is, in fact, staring at her reflection. Her self hatred is evident throughout. She makes a lot of self-depreciating remarks, and constantly refers to her social class as something shameful. She’s open about her imprisonment; it’s something almost expected of her after all, but again it fuels her hatred for what she has become, and the impossibility of her life.

She is somewhat bitter, especially towards those better off than her. Jealousy is one of Eponine’s biggest failures. She is jealous of Cosette when they meet again as adults, and this only intensifies when she finds that Marius loves Cosette. Cosette, for her, represents what Eponine’s life should be, and I think she thinks she is living Cosette’s destiny. It’s hard for Eponine to see Cosette, especially having everything, whilst she starves and freezes to death. She desperately wants a better life, but knows she will never have one. Eponine is not much of a fighter, though. As much as she hates her station in life, she has accepted it, and is willing now to ‘go with the flow’, to go where life takes her. She fights back at her end – she fights for her love – and it ends in her death.

Eponine is argumentative. Hugo calls her a ‘squabbling sparrow’ several times in the novel, which indicates that her arguments can come across as annoying to other people. She is incredibly defensive, and will stick up for herself in an argument, no matter who it is against and no matter whether she is likely to win or not. S

Eponine has some psychological problems, although Hugo says that she is not mad. She has been known to suffer from hallucinations when she is very, very hungry. She tends to laugh as well, in very inappropriate places, a nervous reaction perhaps. She is also known to be quite suicidal; the winter of 1931, Eponine considered wading into the Seine to drown herself– she didn’t because she was scared that it wouldn’t work and it would be too cold. This is perhaps an indication that Eponine cannot cope with her life as well as she seems to on the surface.

Eponine can be sweet. She likes flowers; she finds them soothing after the horrors of Paris. She is somewhat of a dreamer, and likes to imagine herself as a proper lady, dancing with Marius. She can’t let the people she loves end up hurt. She’d literally rather take a bullet for them than let them be injured. Eponine likes to sing; she has always been told that she has an awful voice, but she doesn’t care. She likes to sing and often hums away to herself, singing old French ditties and raunchy ballads, and songs that she makes up herself. Her mother says she is a waste of space, but she isn’t really. She just… She wants to be able to learn. She wants to study with the scholars, but she knows that’ll never be. She can just about read and write her name, and is very proud of these facts as it shows her higher class breeding and makes her stand out in the crowds of destitute teenagers. It takes her a while to read, and longer to write anything beyond ‘Eponine’ and ‘the police are coming’. She’s very intelligent, and picks things up quickly. She is very street smart, and has the potential to be book smart too. Hugo says that Eponine could have been cheery and lively, a real society miss, had circumstances allowed her– and this gaiety CAN bubble through at times. She is vain, too, given half the chance. She spends as much time as she can in Marius’ apartment staring at herself in the mirror, preening, even to the extent that she lies to her dad about what she’s doing so she can continue, as noted previously.

Steadfast is also a word to describe her; she'll stick to the people she likes, no matter what they ask of her.

Eponine is naturally proud. She doesn’t want to be pitied, and hates the fact that people do pity her. She’s playful, and somewhat of a tease when she’s around people she’s comfortable with. She teases Marius, and Montparnasse too. With strangers, she’s more wary of ending up in trouble. Her speech is often colloquial; only when she talks of love does she become more poetic.

Eponine is obsessed with social classes. It’s something she feels acutely, probably because of her dramatic class shift. She’s the bottom of the pile, but she wishes she could climb higher. Throughout the novel, she takes every opportunity she can to show that she is of a higher class than she seems, but ultimately acknowledges and accepts her place in society. The shift comes after her imprisonment; possibly because of her experiences in jail and her realisation that she is a criminal and nothing more and will not be able to rise past that. It’s probably affected by the political situation in Paris too; girls her age and in her situation were often rounded up and accused of prostitution, without any evidence against them, and were submitted to degrading tests to check them. The lack of food and clothes when she saw others warm and fat probably fuels her resentment too– and, of course, her father’s treatment of her as well, all adds up to a girl who has learned to hate herself and her social position and resent almost everybody in positions of power over her who subject her to this life.

In all, Eponine craves affection. She wants to love and be loved. She wants a happy life. She wants Marius. She wants pretty dresses and a bath and the opportunity to learn. But she has no hope that she’ll ever get any of this. It’s there, she can see it, but for Eponine, it is going to be forever out of reach. And she’s accepted that. And she will face her fate bravely.

History: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%89ponine Eponine’s wiki page.

I want to add a quick note here– I am unsure if it fits in exactly with her history, but it is something which affects her and will govern her approach to certain situations.

There is wide debate, both in the fandom, and amongst academics, as to whether Eponine is a prostitute. Hugo never states that she is, but Hugo often hides character traits, and uses clues which those with knowledge of France at the time, would be able to unpick and reveal a deeper meaning– Jehan is a good example of this. It was common at this period too, for writers not to name their literary prostitutes as prostitutes, for fear of them losing sympathy– such as Charles Dickens’ Nancy.
A lot of clues are present, with Eponine. Her father’s begging letters are worded to hint that Eponine (or Azelma presumably as well) are at the recipient’s disposal for whatever they wish the girls to do. This has often been taken to hint at sexual favours.

As well as this, La Madelonnettes, the prison in which Eponine was incarcerated, was used at this time to house women on sentences of a month or less, men waiting transfer to La Force, murderesses and prostitutes. Now, Eponine is obviously not a man, nor a murderess– and she is incarcerated for 8 weeks, before being let go. This is either because she is too young, or there is no evidence (depending on whether you’re talking to Eponine or Javert). This rules out all of the reasons why she was incarcerated in La Madelonnettes, beyond being held on a charge of prostitution, as well as being suspected as taking part in the robbery. If she was only being held on that charge, why was she not sent to the same prison as her mother? Hugo specifies La Madelonnettes for a reason– and I believe it is to hint that Eponine is at least suspected as a prostitute.

Now, I do not believe that Eponine actively worked as a prostitute in the same manner as Fantine, but I do believe that she has had sexual relations with strange men in exchange for money on the orders of her father (via the letters). It’s not something that Eponine would be particularly eager to talk about in game– but it does form part of her background and thus will factor into decisions she makes from time to time.
She is obviously underage in modern America but Eponine is old beyond her years and for her time period. Hugo describes her as a hideous mix of fifteen and fifty, perhaps implying that she looks younger than what she is– but at the same time, has seen and experienced so much in her short life, that she has that weary wisdom in her eyes. Rules in 19th century France were obviously very different to the laws today; ages of consent and limits on the age of drinking were lax and not enforced. Hugo says that Eponine drinks brandy too. So whilst I do not expect that anything of this nature will play a heavy (if any) part in the game, it is something that Eponine has experienced and will be expecting to continue happening when she first arrives.

Canon Abilities or Powers: Eponine is an incredibly strong person. She must be, to be able to cope as well as she appears to, with what she has been through. Her life has been incredibly, incredibly dark, from being forced onto the streets of Paris, to begging and worse in order to make a Franc or two and even surviving in the worst prison in Paris amongst prostitutes and murderers. Her sheer resilience to life has to be a strength for her.

She seems to have a really good immune system as well: at the time of her death, Eponine is apparently suffering from a minor cold; she has a chesty cough and wipes her nose occasionally. Considering her dad sent her to sit outside the apartment without either coat or shoes a few months previous, and she has spent a great deal of time out of doors since, it is a miracle that she wasn’t dead from the flu or pneumonia. The prison she was locked up in, as well, La Prison des Madelonnettes, apparently had overflowing toilets and outbreaks of the plague and smallpox were a regular occurrence, neither of which Eponine has. (C.Arnaud, ‘Chamfort’, p.244 – in case you’re wondering where the toilet detail is coming from).

Eponine’s a really good liar, and a lot of people seem to believe her a lot of the time. She’s cunning and, despite a distinct lack of formal education, she’s actually quite intelligent. She has a good memory; she knows her way through the Parisian underworld even in the dark, as well as the wider, grander streets.

Special abilities – well, Eponine is very proud of the fact that she can read and write. Her education is paltry, but she’d definitely consider even her meagre education as a special ability.

A definite special ability is Eponine’s knowledge of a ‘secret’ corrupt language spoken by the Parisian underworld. It’s called Argot – and it’s a corruption of mainstream French and a bit of Latin and Old French thrown in. For those who don’t know what it means, it’s pretty obscure, and if Eponine were to speak it, her meaning would be difficult to understand. At her canonpoint, Eponine hasn’t been able to use Argot because it makes her ashamed of her criminal status. But in a new world, alone and confused, she is more than likely to indulge in it. There is an ever-growing dictionary of Argot in her journal, and any vocab I use, I will naturally translate in an ooc note for the recipient.

Fairy Tale Role: The Little Match Girl (from the Hans Christensen Anderson story of the same name)
Fairy Tale Powers or Abilities: The Little Match Girl has no special abilities at all. She is, quite simply, a little girl, forced to beg on the streets, and it is only through her death that she becomes important. She is starving and cold and afraid of returning home without enough money to please her step-father, knowing that she will receive a beating for her laziness.
But the Little Match Girl is empowered through her hope. Whilst Eponine is quite resigned to living a terrible life and going to hell, the Little Match Girl firmly believes in heaven, and the idea of someone watching over her. She is able to see nice things and keep even a little flicker of light in the darkest of days (she might be useful if things take a turn for the worse…) She longs for happiness and love and nice things, and she comes to represent the hope of a better life.

Personal Items: Eponine owns nothing more than the clothes she has on her back: they are, a tatty chemise, a long, ripped skirt which is made out of an old cloak, an old leather belt and two pieces of ratty string, one of which holds her hair in a pony tail, and the other ties her skirt to her waist.

First Person Sample:
[When the device turns on, Eponine appears to be upside down.]

Like – like this, Sir?

[She appears to be talking to someone off screen, because male hands then take the device and turn it, before handing it back to Eponine. Colour has risen on her cheeks, and she bites her lip, eyes lowered, clearly embarrassed.]

And now – now I can talk? Just here, like this – and people can hear me? Is that truly true, Sir? Or do you make fun of me? I do not like to be made fun of.

[There are reassurances from the man, gentle laughter as he explains that he is not tricking Eponine, and encouragement for her to smile and explain who she is. Eponine nods, and laughs.]

Monsieur – or is it a Madame to whom I speak – I do not know – I am Eponine. Jondrette. Or just ‘Ponine – as you wish, Sir. I do not mind. I’m new here.

[She looks back at the man helping her, and coughs hard]

Just so, Sir?

[She turns back to the camera]

I hardly know what to say, Sir. Or Madame. We do not have such things as this where I am from. We have none of this indeed, Monsieur. I had thought I was dead at first, you know, but perhaps that is not so. No, it is not so. I am not dead. But it is still very, very strange. Perhaps someone will explain – I will understand, you know, if you explain properly. I am not as stupid as I look. I might have been a student like Monsieur Marius and his friends, had I been a boy… and rich besides. But I could have been you know? I am quick – if you will take the time to explain than I will understand. I can show you I am quick – have I not already mastered how to use this… device?

[And with that, she smiles triumphantly. Yes, she has learned how to use something new.]

Do you play anyone in Myth Making?: Nope

IC
Name: Finn
Canon: Warrior U
Canon Point: Post A Very Short Engagement
Age: 14

Personality:
Finn is someone that others are quick to label as "pathetic." Growing up with a number of phobias and anxiety issues, he's developed into quite the little survivor--he may go out of his way to avoid fighting his own battles, but in the end he will do just about anything to ensure his own well-being. This combined with the way his mother raised him has turned into into a spineless, shameless coward who is incredibly needy and entirely too dependent on other people.

Because Finn's agoraphobia left him too scared to leave the house often as a child, he grew up being completely dependent on his mother with no other friends to speak of. She spoiled him rotten and was pretty much the scariest mama bear imaginable--because if you did anything to her precious baby she'd use her magic to make you pay without a thought. His mother was all he had, but she was also always there for him to rely on. Heading out into town on his own to go to school and start learning to be independent of her...he really didn't know what to do with himself. He'd always been taken care of. Protected. Rather than truly improving on how needy he is, Finn just transferred some of it onto another person: Harv, his new "best friend." Finn's far too nervous and cautious to really strike it out on his own like he'd like to, so for now trying to seek independence just means finding someone new to rely on.

Finn's number one priority in basically any situation is his own safety. He's one of the last people you'd expect to risk his life for the sake of someone else, because he's a horrible coward. With danger(or horses) nearby, Finn feels no shame in running or hiding behind people for protection--in fact, any person's #1 use to him is as a meatshield. Usually this is directed at Harv, who more or less acts as Finn's personal bodyguard while being referred to as his "best friend." While Finn does care about Harv's safety and doesn't want anything to happen to him(although it took awhile for that to be due to actually liking Harv and not just because Harv can't save him all the time if he's hurt), that's pretty much always a secondary concern when his own safety is in jeopardy. While he certainly doesn't enjoy getting into dangerous situations, he's not embarrassed in the slightest about being Harv's damsel in distress all the time--he's just glad he managed to rope Harv into being his personal hero. Finn's safety is such a huge concern to him that as proud as he often acts, he doesn't hesitate to throw all of that away to literally cry and beg for his life when it's in danger.

Finn is pretty in love with himself. This comes from taking every nice thing his mother has ever told him far too seriously. Like any proud mom she tells him he's beautiful and perfect in every way, and why on earth would his mother lie to him? He's obviously a great person that everyone wants to be around, despite the fact that he logically should be shunned by society--he's the son of a disowned noble, an illegitimate child, his mother is a witch and half of the town believes him to be the son Satan, and his appearance sticks out(his extremely light blond hair and purple eyes are how inheriting his mother's albinism manifested). Few people really like him, but his head's been incredibly inflated by his mother's praise and she uses her magic to intimidate everyone into treating them with respect. It took the entire town showing up to watch him get burned at the stake for him to realize that maybe, just maybe, not everyone loved him as much as he thought. It's an extrtemely disturbing realization to him, but he continues on with his life acting as haughty as any proud noble. His preoccupation with his appearance and hygiene also come from his mother's constant praise, because she's always telling him he's a beautiful young boy, so that's exactly what he has to be to live up to her expectations.

Of course, if Finn's perfect, then that means that everyone around him(besides his mother) is a lesser being. He looks down on others, especially peasants, and chalks up them not having the same priorities as him as a sign of their inferiority. Finn sticks out like a sore thumb among his classmates, most of which are big and strong and fit perfectly into male gender roles and interested in showing that off. Finn, on the other hand, doesn't fit very well into society's expectations of what an ideal man is. He'd rather go shopping or play music than get into a fistfight. He's also small and weak and completely and utterly disinterested in his Warrioring classes. But preferring playing the harp to swinging a sword around doesn't make him weird, in his mind, it makes him better than them. They're all stupid barbarians and brutes, who can never hope to be as great as he is. Finn does, however, decide that anyone he takes a liking to is automatically a great person despite anything he sees as one of their shortcomings, because Finn is a great person so obviously those he chooses to associate with must also be great people. Just not as great as he is.

Despite all of his anxiety, Finn can be a surprisingly positive person. He has to be, actually, because otherwise? He'd still be completely housebound. Using his huge ego and a forced positive attitude was the only way he was able to work through his issues enough to be out and about as often as he is today. He also prefers to have an oddly romantic view of the world despite it never really working out for him; he values the kinds of things he reads about in stories in theory, but usually is less than impressed with them in real life. He likes to keep the world a degree of mysterious, so he's not exactly fond of things like science and magic. They're very useful and he's glad they exist, but they're not for him to understand--understanding takes the magic out of things and makes them mundane. Magic is only magical if he can think of it as some mystical force beyond his comprehension.

With Finn's upbringing in mind, how socially inept he can be is hardly surprising. He doesn't really, for example, know how to be friends with someone. As far as he's concerned, he can inform someone that they're going to be his best friend and then that's it, it's done! They're best friends for life--because friendship is forever. He doesn't have to be nice to you or anything, he can just decide you're his friend and you're supposed to be nice to him. He doesn't understand the concept of other people's personal space(but woe to you if you invade his), because most of his interaction with others has been with his mother. She's very physically affectionate with him and in a parent-child relationship it's much more acceptable to invade each other's personal space all the time than it is with your classmates. But Finn really doesn't get that distinction; and he never seems to pick up on how uncomfortable he makes people by touching them all the time. He'll also open criticize anything he doesn't approve of, usually without even thinking of the consequences. Tact is a foreign concept to this kid; if he doesn't like your shoes or thinks you smell bad, he'll say so. Loudly. It doesn't matter if you're his worst enemy or his supposed "best friend."

Unsurprisingly, Finn's morals can be pretty questionable. Being raised by an evil witch that throws princesses off of towers and all, it's not like he was ever discouraged from being that way. When he's not doing well in class his first plan to rectify this is to break into the school and change his grades. He doesn't see anything wrong with the way he often uses people, calculating how having them around could affect his survival and safety. He, at first, doesn't even seem to have much of a problem at all with the notion of killing those that cross him--not that he'd do it himself. And at most? He usually finds his mother's cruel treatment of other people embarrassing. Her throwing a fit and treating other people like crap will only earn a sigh and a "Mother! Why must you make such a scene...?"

Of course, with all the time Finn's spent "trying to become more independent" lately, he has grown as a person...to an extent. His friendship with Harv has become much more genuine(although he's still very much okay with using him for protection), with Finn actually feeling bad about putting Harv's safety in danger by suggesting he visit Hevvin's house and the aftermath of that leaving the two of them exchanging gifts and acting much more like actual friends. Finn also learned from his experience with Darren during the tournament and when Darren later kidnapped him Finn actually tried to stop his mother from harming him when not long ago he'd've been begging her to kill him. Still, even taking all of this progress into consideration? Finn's probably not someone you want to be friends with.

History:
Set in vaguely Medieval and not terribly historically accurate England, Warrior U chronicles the misadventures of its wimpy protagonist, Finn. Born the illegitimate son of a disowned noble turned evil witch in the fictional town of Cailburry, Finn grew up on the outskirts of town, rarely leaving his house because of his agoraphobia. This as well as a fear of horses was caused by an incident where he was mauled by a unicorn in his mother's rose garden when he was very young. He really didn't socialize with other children growing up(minus bugging the assorted children at the palace when his mother dragged him along to parties there, but he's not really friends with any of them), and grew up with his mom as his only friend. Showing no interest in any of the magic she tried to teach him as he spent the majority of his days cooped up in the house, he instead learned to play the harp and turned to things like music and books for entertainment.

As ridiculously close to his mother as Finn was, as many teenagers do he started to feel a need to seek independence from her as he grew older. Forcing himself to work through his anxiety enough to be able to leave the house more and more often, at fourteen years of age he decided to enroll himself in a local school so he could one day become a bard. Unfortunately for him, before he could take any classes related to his major, he had to pass Warrioring 101. Finn had no skill for or interest in that kind of thing, and immediately decided to seek out the help of the best student in the class. Having been very dependent on another person for most of his life, Finn wasn't very good at functioning on his own anyway, so finding someone to force his needy self onto was the only way to make himself feel secure as he tried to ween himself off of needing his mother all the time--Finn didn't seem to realize that just forcing himself to be dependent on someone else wasn't actually progress.

Finn chose a farmboy named Harv to be his new "best friend," giving Harv no say in the matter at all. While Harv wasn't exactly fond of him at first, he couldn't help but feel obligated to protect Finn from danger due to what Finn called his "Bad Case of Hero," and soon found himself roped into being Finn's near-constant companion. While originally their "friendship" consisted of nothing more than Finn using Harv and Harv being enough of a pushover to put up with it, they slowly started to grow to genuinely care for one another and enjoy each other's company.

Eventually Finn told Harv about the unicorn, who had returned and was stalking him, looking for chances to attempt to run him through with his horn. Finding these attempts were not yielding any results, the unicorn shapeshifted into the form of a teenaged boy(albiet one with white skin, pink hair and eyes, and a horn on his head) to "befriend" Finn and get a chance to kill him. An attempt to take advantage of Finn getting mad at Harv so he could steal Finn away from his protector and kill him didn't go so well for the unicorn, however, because Harv ended up following them around the entire time out of concern. It didn't take Harv too long to realize that Finn's "new friend" was actually the unicorn, and he of course immediately warned Finn and thwarted the unicorn's plans. If Finn had a better attention span perhaps this would have taught him a lesson about friendship, but hey, he at least ended up learning the unicorn's name: Hevvin Angel-Bright.

After this incident Finn and Harv went on to have various relatively insignificant misadventures(Finn declaring himself the new teacher and convincing everyone to skip school with him and go to the beach, for example), often including having to thwart Hevvin's many murder attempts. At one point Hevvin ended up dragging Finn back to his house, where Finn found that he lived in a hollowed out tree decorated with the skulls of his various victims, unicorns and humans alike. Finn managed to escape while Harv was attempting to negotiate with him, but to Finn's dismay he found Harv to be rather reluctant to hurt the psychotic creature. As far as Harv was concerned, Hevvin was just a dumb animal that didn't know any better, and due to loving animals Harv didn't want to kill him.

Eventually Finn's mother brought him with her to crash a party at the palace like they often do, and it didn't take Finn long to start exchanging insults with a squire named Darren. While Darren made fun of Finn's lack of physical prowess, Finn targeted Darren's father, who had been turned into a frog by Finn's mother. Darren was very close to his father and carried him around everywhere(to make sure no one stepped on him and because his father was still supposed to be his knightly mentor), so quickly lost his temper and nearly attacked Finn. Remembering that Finn's overprotective mother was in the area was the only thing that stopped him from doing so, but Darren didn't intend to just let it go. Instead, he started plotting to take down Finn's mother once and for all, which conveniently enough also meant targeting Finn as Darren considered him her only weakness.

The next day at school their teacher announced that the princess was holding a tournament and was challenging their class to compete against the palace's kids. Darren had mentioned that Finn wouldn't last a second at a tournament during his trip to the palace, so he knew that this couldn't be a coincidence. While Finn immediately began to dread this, Harv excitedly took initiative in planning for it. Unfortunately for them, they needed a horse for jousting and most of kids in their class were too poor to afford one. With Harv unable to use his family's plowhorse and Finn telling them not to bother asking him for help with that because of his fear of horses, Harv decided to try and make Hevvin act as their horse. After all, he still believed that there was no way that a unicorn was actually evil. To draw Hevvin out, the class tied a very unhappy Finn to a tree to use him as bait, and sure enough the unicorn appeared to take another stab at killing Finn. Shapeshifting into his human form to ask Harv why Finn was "floating"(he's not exactly bright) allowed Harv to discuss the tournament with him, and Hevvin agreed to help them as long as they let him wear a feather on his head. It could also be the perfect opportunity to finally kill Finn, after all...

Unfortunately for Finn, his mother couldn't show up to assist him with her magic due to having to meet with some other witches, so Finn was stuck cowering behind his classmates instead, waiting for Darren to strike. Despite them actually managing to get a "horse" to ride, jousting ended up going to horribly because Hevvin ran off to attack Finn halfway through. Archery didn't go so well either; while Finn miraculously managed to hit the target, he was up against the princess who was well known for being a good shot with her beloved crossbow. Harv, however, tried to remain optimistic, claiming they could catch up to the other team in the melee. Hevvin takes this opportunity to imply that he's going to use the melee to try and make another attempt on Finn's life, and Finn was not really keen on the idea of actually fighting for himself for once so as soon as the melee started he snuck off the field and into a nearby tent to play his harp.

Finn wasn't the only one abandoning the battle, however, and found himself joined in his tent by none other than Darren. Brandishing a real sword(not allowed in the tournament), Darren announced that he was going to kill Finn for revenge on his mother. As Finn began to cry and beg for his life, Darren offered him a sword to fight back with, and at that Finn finally screamed for Harv to come save him at the top of his lungs. Abandoning his battle with one Darren's friends, Harv entered the tent to see what was going on and Finn immediately hid behind him and climbed onto his back for protection. Calling a timeout, Finn explained the situation to his classmates(with an obvious bias), but Harv's promise to protect him from Darren wasn't enough for Finn. He wanted to him to kill him or at least put ants in his pants or something, because Darren was a threat and he needed to be taken care of. Harv, however, refused to do anything but fight honorably, so Finn angrily stormed off to find someone who would play dirty.

Apparently Finn was scared enough of Darren to team up with his worst enemy, because it was Hevvin that Finn turned to out of sheer desperation. Finn managed to convince Hevvin to help after bringing up the fact that Hevvin would be unable to kill him himself if Darren did it, and even claimed he'd let Hevvin kill him if he helped him take care of Darren(this of course, was a big fat lie). Harv ended up getting into a fight with Darren to protect Finn from him, and Finn used this to his advantage to sneak around. Getting a sack with...something...in it from Hevvin, Finn returned to his classmates to find Darren had defeated Harv. After all, Harv may have been a good fighter, but Darren was a squire.

As Darren moved towards Finn to make another attempt on his life, Finn revealed what he'd gotten Hevvin to fetch for him, pulling Darren's father(in frog form, of course) out of the sack and threatening to step on him if Darren got any closer. While he hardly wanted Darren to kill Finn, Harv was understandably disappointed with Finn's behavior. Finn immediately got defensive, bringing up the fact that he didn't have a father and complaining about all the murder attempts he'd had to deal with lately. An angry Darren informed him that this wasn't about him, but his mother's tyranny.

Lucky for Finn, his mother finally showed up to help him--although she wasn't in good shape due to the witches she'd met with poisoning her. She offered to kill Darren, but surprisingly enough Finn told her not to(to please Harv), instead taking her home to take care of her. Unfortunately, Finn leaving meant his class was disqualified from the tournament, so none of his classmates were particularly pleased with him.

Eventually, the king took notice of the disappearances caused by Hevvin's murders. The team of monster hunters immediately went to Finn's house, believing his mother to be responsible, and trapped her in a strange contraption. However, a man(actually Hevvin in his human form, wearing a cloak to hide his horn) approached them shortly after claiming to know who the true culprit was. Leading them to Warrior University, he claimed Finn was responsible, pulling his shirt off and showing them the hole in his chest. Obviously that made Finn a zombie, so he must be the killer. Attempting to prove his innocence, Finn removed Hevvin's cloak and revealed him as a unicorn...but that only made the monster hunters more inclined to trust him, as Finn was pretty much the only person in the universe that mistrusted unicorns by default. Believing a pure being such as a unicorn couldn't possibly be lying, they imprisoned Finn and threw a party in Hevvin's honor.

Once Harv found out, he went to visit Finn in jail, where Finn instructed him to go find his mother. However, when Harv got there, she was still stuck in the trap the monster hunters used on her. Busy with her escape attempt, she reluctantly entrusted Harv with the task of rescuing her son. With no idea of where to even begin, Harv returned to Finn, and the two argued briefly over Harv's trust towards Hevvin. Having seen all the skulls in Hevvin's house before, Finn suggested Harv follow Hevvin home and see for himself. Harv did so out of curiosity, and fainted from shock when he saw all the trophies of Hevvin's murders. Unfortunately for him, he woke up with Hevvin hovering over him, and quickly found himself restrained so Hevvin could kill him. Conveniently, one of the monster hunters showed up at Hevvin's door before he could, having come to fetch him for Finn's execution. Leaving Harv tied up in his house for later, Hevvin headed back to town to finish Finn off once and for all.

Hevvin arrived to where Finn was being held and, as Finn was being tied to a stake to be burned, bragged about what he'd done to Harv(implying he'd already killed him). To make things extra fun for himself, Hevvin stuffed a bag of gunpowder down Finn's shirt. The entire town had gathered to watch Hevvin execute Finn, but demanded a speech before he lit the fire, which stalled things long enough for Harv to escape and make his way back to town. Harv interfered at the last minute, knocking the torch out of Hevvin's hand and releasing Finn. The two of them ran for it, as Hevvin quickly regained the torch and pursued them.

Running into an alley and hiding behind a few crates, Harv apologized for never believing Finn about how evil Hevvin was and Finn apologized for sending Harv to Hevvin's house. While the two had believed themselves to be safe because Hevvin passed them by, they realized all too late that Hevvin was actually setting fire to exits(thus...also trapping himself, but Hevvin's hardly the brightest creature out there). Luckily for them, even in his human form Hevvin isn't really all that good at climbing, so they climbed up the side of one of the buildings. A frustrated Hevvin began shouting threats up at Finn("You can run, but I'll never stop hunting you! Your skull will decorate my house!" kind of deal), who stood frozen in place on the roof as Harv urged him to get moving. After a few long seconds of just standing there, though, Finn remembered the bag of gunpowder. Digging it out of his shirt, he told Hevvin to shut up and threw it into the fire near where Hevvin was standing. While the unicorn had supposedly been killed by the explosion the gunpowder caused, the fires were put out due to some convenient cartoon physics. With the entire ordeal officially over, Finn gave Harv a kiss on the cheek and thanked him for his help, then eagerly dragged him off to see his mother. Having only just escaped from her confinement when they arrived at Finn's house, she gave Harv a kiss on the cheek out of gratitude as well. Finn, of course, was still preoccupied with celebrating the unicorn's "death"...unfortunately for him, unicorns are magical and Hevvin wasn't going to die that easily.

As happy as the end of that particular incident left Finn, the trauma from almost being burned at the stake caused him to have a bit of a relapse into his agoraphobia. While he kept telling himself that it was finally safe to wander about without an escort, he found himself unable to get very far out his front door before he got too scared to bear it any longer and ran back inside. Unfortunately this led to Finn missing some class, but eventually he got sick enough of it to employ a favorite among cartoons--a giant slingshot, so he had no choice but to leave his house. Firing himself out of it, he found himself all the way at Harv's farm, and unfortunately landed right on top of a cake Harv's mom had baked for him.

Some time later, Finn decided he was going to have a slumber party. He figured it would be a convenient way to get out of going to a party at the palace with his mother--now that Darren's animosity towards him had turned violent, Finn was scared of going there rather than thrilled by it. Asking Harv to come over unfortunately didn't work out for him, however, because Harv was frankly too scared of Finn's mother to agree to spending the night at his house...and Finn had kind of said that his life was more important than Harv's in his sleepover proposal, so Harv wasn't exactly happy with him at the moment.

As Finn found himself dragged to the castle because he couldn't convince Harv to sleepover, Darren was unsurprisingly plotting again. He kidnapped Finn, hoping to bargain with his mother so she would stop terrorizing everyone...or at least turn Darren's father back into a human being again. Finn's mom agreed to the latter, but unfortunately didn't remember the spell offhand and had to run home and look for it. Due to her study being incredibly cluttered, Finn concluded that he'd be stuck with Darren all night...and was pretty okay with this, when it dawned on him that that was suspiciously similar to a slumber party when you took out the part where Darren was a threat to his safety.

But all of Finn's party attempts failed horribly as Darren refused to participate, and eventually his mother showed up to claim him. Although she couldn't find the spell, she did cast an illusion to intimdate Finn's captors before running off to think of another plan. Finn, determined to enjoy his "slumber party," decided to pull out his harp and start playing for Shiel and Darren.

This was a mistake.

Darren, already irritated, couldn't take Finn's behavior any longer and slapped the harp out of his hands. Unfortunately this broke Finn's precious harp--leaving Darren to feel guilty and Finn to mope over the loss of his favorite instrument.

But Finn's moping didn't last too long. Finn soon turned his attention back to Darren, suggesting they tell scary stories. Telling a "story" that basically amounted to his situation with Darren, he finished it by cursing Darren with misfortune. A horrified Darren accidentally knocked something off of his wall, and was knocked unconscious when it hit him on the head. Seeing this, Shiel fainted, leaving Finn to escape--and conveniently, his mother had just finished scaling the wall and was hovering outside Darren's window to take Finn home. A frustrated Finn left with her.

Finn is later seen doing a school project with Harv, completely clueless to his mother's staff being stolen and passed around the kingdom. It eventually finds its way back to Finn's house and Finn scolds Harv for having it.

Eventually Harv's brother Rhodri, who believed Finn was a girl, came and asked Finn's mother for "her" hand in marriage. Finding that absolutely hilarious and seeing an opportunity to get something out it, Leenan stuck Finn in a dress and told Rhodri he could if he brought her back a phoenix feather. Unfortunately for Finn, Rhodri actually managed, so in frustration he ripped the dress off to prove his gender to Rhodri. Rhodri, however...was more distracted by the giant hole in Finn's chest, and left in terror of the "zombie" before him.

Canon Abilities or Powers:
While all humans in this universe are capable of magic if they decide to learn it(it's a skill you have to acquire, not a natural gift), he's not very interested in it and generally refuses to learn anything about it. He tends to claim that he doesn't even know how to use it, but apparently this is a lie, according to the comic's creator, and he does know some spells. Unfortunately we don't know what he actually knows how to do and the mechanics of magic in this series are pretty vague, but because he's very against the idea of using magic it probably won't come up.

On a related note, Finn is only able to live because of his mother's magic. Without her rearranging his interal organs and such, he would've died when he was mauled by a unicorn as a child. Since she couldn't fix him completely or anything, he was left with a giant hole in his chest.

Fairy Tale Role: the Cowardly Lion from the Wizard of Oz
Fairy Tale Powers or Abilities:
He doesn't really gain much, honestly, as the Lion doesn't have any unusual powers. He's just a talking animal. However there are definitely things cats have that humans don't, ie a better sense of smell, better hearing, seeing better at night. He'll get a boost in that area.

Personal Items:
His clothing, as well as his harp.

First Person Sample:
Soooooo, magic book, huh? Not as good as the ones I've seen my mother use, but I suppose it's something! So who am I talking to here? Some ugly old witch or what? Not that all witches are ugly, I mean, my mother is absolutely beautiful...but, I've found she's sadly in the minority there.

Anyway, I seem to be under some kind of spell. Perhaps an illusion? Either way, I kind of need anyone who can help me break it to. Do so. Immediately. Because I'm too pretty to be trapped in something like this for long. I can offer you a dirty peasant to take my place, if that helps? There are tons I'd like to get off my hands!

Third Person Sample:
