❅ FAQ
Character Information
What type of character am I allowed to apply for? Any canon characters. We accept all character types as long as they're not religious figures or real people. Fictional interpretations of real people, however, are allowed. (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is an acceptable example.) We also allow OCs, and Canon AUs. But there's a catch. For AU characters, there can only be two version of that character in the game at any given time, and only one of them can be AU. You can have MCU Tony Stark and comics-verse Tony Stark, but not cartoon-verse Tony Stark unless one of them drops. For Original Characters, they must be a native of the world. That means if you want to apply for an original character, it must be your own interpretation of that fairy tale character as they would live in this setting. You can app Snow White, for example, and she won't have to take on any other role. OC applications will be held to a higher standard. What about inhuman characters? Your character doesn't have to be human to enter! Animals, aliens, robots, they're all allowed. As long as they have the ability to communicate with other characters, they're allowed, and the game does not require you to humanize them. Incredibly large characters, such as Transformers, will have to be sized down to fit the setting. What if my character is dead/dying/sick in canon? Congratulations, you get a second shot at life! Any life-threatening injuries have disappeared, and you're alive as you were! If the character is sick, it's up to you whether or not they're magically cured. This applies to everything from the common cold to life-threatening diseases. My character is dependent on something to survive. How does that work here? If your character is dependent in the sense that a vampire requires blood to survive, that's easy. A vampire will receive the necessary amount of blood to survive every day life. They're also allowed to bite characters, but only with the other player's permission. Likewise if your character requires medication or some form of magic energy. They will be given the means to obtain what they need to survive. If your character doesn't fit into these terms, feel free to ask! Reverse that. My character has a weakness! How does that work here? If your character is a vampire and remains such in the game, they will still be susceptible to whatever weaknesses they have in canon, whether it's sunlight, garlic, or holy objects. Likewise to characters with other weaknesses, such as elemental ones. Can I play a character with very little canon background? If you can write a well-developed application and elaborate on them in a way that makes sense to their canon, go for it! We probably won't accept a silent background character who only appears for five seconds. What about silent protagonists? Sure! A character doesn't have to speak to have a personality. What if my character shares a body with someone, or has multiple personalities? If your character has multiple personalities, mention it in your app. This will be considered a single character. If your character shares a body with someone, then you can only apply for one of the two, as they're considered multiple characters and too close to be apped by the same player. If another player picks up your counterpart, they will be given their own body. This is to prevent one body taking on two new roles. What about my character's powers? Gone, I'm afraid! Whatever abilities they had have vanished, replaced with the magic or abilities of the role they're taking on. Your character's physical abilities will not vanish, so they will be as good with a sword or as fast as they were before, as long as it wasn't enhanced by magic. Other physical traits such as wings and mutations will remain as they are. (Example: Nightcrawler will still be blue, have a tail, and be physically agile, but he will no longer be able to teleport.) What can my character bring them? Whatever they have on them at the time. Clothes, armor, weapons, purses, backpacks and their contents are all within reason. If they would be wearing or holding a weapon at that point in canon they can bring that along, too. Machinery and technology can be brought along as well, but there's no wi-fi here. Your character can not bring large items such as cars, houses, or furniture. Use common sense in that regard. If your character is holding a magical item at the time, say a wand, Keyblade, or Apple of Eden, then the item's magic will be frozen and it'll be little more than a trinket or normal weapon. (You could bash someone's head in with the Apple, for example, but say goodbye to its mystical properties.) Summoned weapons that characters are not holding are no longer obtainable. What about pets, summons, or Pokémon? You'll have the option of one pet, Pokémon, or summoned creature, if it's in the Final Fantasy sense. (Summons that count as characters in their respective canons will have to be applied for separately.) As your character will lose the ability to control them at will, Pokémon or summons will be treated as pets and will be out at all times. Please be reasonable when it comes to the size of the pets. Anything the size of a horse or large cat is okay. An elephant is probably not. My character needs their powers to survive! What do I do? Their new role will prevent them from dying without them, through magic or some other means. If you need to discuss how this works for your character, feel free to leave a comment here or contact a mod. Can my character get married or pregnant in-game? Marriage! The locals and certain NPCs might frown upon characters marrying outside of their roles, but there's no law against it. Or is there? Possible repercussions may happen in the future, as they might for any character who deviates from their assigned role. Pregnancy is allowed if it works biologically, but it's going to be rare, and pregnant characters will carry to full term. That means a full nine months for human characters. Non-human characters will have to be discussed separately. Please contact a mod so they can be aware of any and all pregnancies in-game. What happens if my character dies? The NPCs have a handle on that. Specifically, Death and Father Time. A week after the point of death your character will wake up just the same as they did before, fully healed and alive, with no memory of the time between. |
Game Questions
Where and how does my character arrive in the game? Your character arrives in the city of Märchenstraße, or Märchen by the locals. Perhaps they fell asleep or died. It doesn't really matter what they were doing before. What matters is that they're here now, sitting on the cobblestone street with a book in their lap, greeted by a flock of friendly, local fables. Shopkeeps, farmers, mute but very cheerful (and small) elves, maybe even a pixie or two. They're all grinning, almost celebrating, full of nothing more than relief and happiness. They'll offer a hand, explain where they are and perhaps point them in the direction they need to go. Oh, what does it matter how they got there? Everyone's been waiting for them to return for so long. Where do they go from there? Wherever they want. There's no one really telling them what to do, after all. There are just certain... expectations. They can live wherever they want, wreak havoc with whatever new abilities they might have, or submerge themselves in their new role and supposed destiny and live like royalty. Or trolls. What stories can my character take a role in? Anything including but not limited to this list. Fairy tales from all across the globe live in this realm, and more. Many classic works of fiction are acceptable, including Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland, Frankenstein, and The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, along with characters of folklore and legend such as Beowulf, King Arthur, Robin Hood, and Jack Frost. If you're unsure, drop a comment! While Myth Making is inspired largely by classic European fairy tales for familiarity, there will be events and new areas inspired by folklore and myths from all across the world. I want to apply for a character from a fairy tale or legend-based canon, such as The Guardians of Childhood, Once Upon A Time, or the Fables comic series. That's great! We'd love to have them! But they won't be able to take on the same role as they are. That wouldn't be very fair or interesting. Your Jack Frost or Red Riding Hood will have to get used to being someone else, maybe even someone they know! How does that work? We're not really sure. A change in fate, perhaps. The people in charge have the power to do it, that's all we know. Does my character have to be the same ____ as the role they take on? Short answer: no. Long answer: no! Your character doesn't have to be the same gender, sex, race, or species as the role they're taking on. Or anything else! My character doesn't want this! That's too bad. The powers that be are sure they'll do fine! Who's in charge around here? For all intents and purposes, it depends on your location! For the main city of Märchenstraße, Father Time and Lady Justice are who the locals look up to. Mother Nature is the supreme ruler of the forest. The various kingdoms throughout the land look to their respective monarchs, and so on. Who are the NPCs? For the main cast, aka the mod-run characters who are responsible for this whole thing, you can go to this post for more information. Of course, they're not the only people here. There are normal humans, talking animals, other nameless fairy tale creatures and characters wandering around and living their lives as they do every day. Locals, farmers, shopkeepers, elves, fairies, and more. You can hand-wave your conversations with them, or contact a mod for some assistance in special occasions. They'll never get very personal with characters arriving, but they're able to lend food or point out where to take shelter, and of course direct them toward whatever kingdom, cave, or section of the forest they belong to. The only strange part is that they will always recognize the character they're speaking to, and will always refer to them by their new ("true") name. How do characters communicate? Usually by talking. But to make things easy there's a network system. Since electronics are sparse here, it takes on a much more cozy physical form, and only exists in script. Characters will find they wake up with a story book and quill nestled beside them. The book is full of blank pages and has their new name written carefully along the spine. Whatever they write exists in black script, while the writing of other characters appears magically in dark green script. There are no voice or video options. What language does the world use? It's impossible to say. Regardless of what language they spoke before, everyone can communicate perfectly, even when making a conscious effort to speak in that language. Most of the shop signs in Märchenstraße appear to be an old German script. How does technology work here? About the same as it does anywhere, although most of the locals are old-fashioned and prefer a good fire and candles to electronics. It's almost impossible to find anything like that outside of Märchenstraße. Your laptop will run just fine, and there will be places to charge it there, but there's no such thing as the internet, no heavy machinery, and no computers already here. For the most part you're on your own. Where will my character live? Are there assigned homes? Wherever you want, and no. There are plenty of empty cottages and houses in the city, and less frequently scattered throughout the forest and other areas of the world, along with castles and smaller villages. Characters are free to pick wherever they want to live, as long as it's not already occupied! Most of the locals naturally expect royalty to live in their castles. Keep in mind that the less people in that area, the more likely the place was abandoned and will be found in a filthy state. Get ready to channel your inner Snow White! What about magic? Oh, magic! Magic is what the world runs on, from the wings of fairies to the first snowflakes of winter. You're bound by the laws of magic in this world, of course, so wizards and witches will have to do a lot of learning all over again. But be careful: not all magic is kind and gentle, and some comes with a terrible price. Can my character start a business? What currency does the game use? Sure! Businesses are fine, required in a world expected to function. The technical currency is gold and silver, but many locals are more comfortable with trade and barter. Are there laws? Can my character commit a crime? Of course there are laws! What kind of place do you think you're in? Lady Justice values law and rightness above all, and she does not take kindly to characters who break them. She acts as both judge and jury in this world, and all crimes will be judged by their severity. The punishments vary, and prison is an awful place to be. Even Death will step in, if Lady Justice wills it. Don't think you can get away with it just because you think no one saw you, either. The longer your crime goes without punishment, the worse it will be when you're caught. If you're thinking of harming another character in some way, please discuss it and make sure everything is agreed upon by all parties involved. Wide-spread destruction, such as destroying buildings or large portions of the forest, must be run by a mod first. |
Reserves & Applications
How many reserves/applications can I make at once? You can reserve and apply for two characters per app cycle, but they must be from separate canons. If you want to play two characters from the same canon, they must be applied for in separate cycles and can't be too close in canon. If they interact often in canon, don't do it. Players can have a maximum of three characters at any given time. Can I play a character who has already been in the game? Sure! If someone drops then you're free to apply for that character, no problem. They won't have any memories of their time before, but characters who knew them won't have their memories erased. You do not have to assign them the same fairy tale role as the player before you. Can I play a character I played in a previous game? Sorry, no. We're currently not allowing previous game history. What happens if I want to Canon Update? Drop a comment on our hiatus post! Your character will disappear in-game for three days as these changes take place. Do you accept application challenges? Nope. How does the application process work? Depending on whether you're applying for a canon character or an original character, please fill out one of the applications here. Please read the post for further instruction! Apps open on the first of every month and remain open for one week, during which time the mods will begin processing. We're optimistic and hope you'll get the result of your app within a day, but some may take longer depending on the familiarity of the mods with the canon, and the number of apps received in that cycle. If four or more days pass with no response then we suggest you contact a mod. Reserves will be open for one week, the week before apps open. Dates and times will be listed on both pages to make things easy! Applications will be judged primarily on the personality section of the character in question, and how the player intends to adapt them into their new role. For this part we're mostly interested in what you plan to do with their powers and new destiny, not how the character will react to it. Can I re-use an application? Only if you wrote it. But yes, you're free to re-use sections of an older application, such as personality. If you're caught plagiarizing an application written by someone else you will be permanently banned. |
Game Mechanics
What post formats do you use? All network posts are expected to be written as you would when communicating with someone else. Consider it a journal and messenger system. Again, there are no voice or video options. You can have log threads in the network community, if the characters decide to meet up through the books, but don't start logs there. All log posts are expected to go into the log community. You can use prose or action tags, and whatever writing style you're comfortable with. Here's your format: Who: Characters involved. Where: Where is the thread taking place? When: The date the thread occurs. Note if it's backdated. What: What's happening here? Warnings: Always warn for sex or violence. Otherwise, judge for yourself. Status: OPEN or CLOSED. Should I tag my posts? Yes. This will help you and the mods keep track of your characters. All characters will be assigned a personal tag in both communities upon acceptance. The formats for these tags will be canon name: character. How do I pass the Activity Check? Simple! Here are the current AC requirements. 1 - a post to ![]() ![]() 2 - either of the following: - ten comments from your character in a single separate thread - ten comments from your character in two separate threads that amount to five comments in each AC will go up at the end of each month during the same week reserves open, and you will have five days to submit a comment with the necessary links. Failed AC means removal from the game, and you will not be able to re-apply for that character until the next app cycle, to offer other players a chance. What is the IC to OOC time ratio? 1:1. One day IC = one day OOC. What are the events like? Can players plot their own? Events will primarily revolve around the stories characters have found themselves in, and holidays. This offers a wide range of possibilities. Heroes and villains will both have their time to shine, and the seasons will bring heavy changes. There will be dramatic events, conflict, and also more toned down, slice-of-life events. Players are free to run their own plots! We just ask that you run it by a mod first, to make sure events don't happen at the same time and such. I don't want to participate in an event. Do I have to? Probably not! Most events will be optional, and some will even require sign-ups. If your character wouldn't participate, that's fine. If you're not interested, that's fine too. However, your character might have to deal with repercussions if they refuse, especially if the fairy tale they belong to has a part in the event. Can my character break the fourth wall? Yes, if by that you mean recognizing other characters or fairy tales. But only with the other player's permission! To any potential Deadpool applicants: a permissions post would be a good idea. What time zone does the game run on? To make things easy, EST. Notices will go up with times listed in EST, and things like apps and reserves will open or close at midnight EST. I need to call a hiatus. Where do I do that? Here! I want to drop my character. Where do I do that? Here! |
