❅ Applications

Applications are: CLOSED
Indefinitely.

To apply for a character, fill out the correct application down below and post it a comment on this entry. Please do not link applications in your journal or delete the comments once your application is processed. Let us know if you would like your application screened.

Apps open on the first of every month and remain open for one week, during which time the mods will begin processing. We're optimistic and hope you'll get the result of your app within a day, but some may take longer depending on the familiarity of the mods with the canon, and the number of apps received in that cycle. If four or more days pass with no response then we suggest you contact a mod.

You can reserve and apply for two characters per app cycle. Currently, players are allowed a maximum of three characters in-game at any given time.

Applications will be judged primarily on the personality section of the character in question, and how the player intends to adapt them into their new role. For this part we're mostly interested in what you plan to do with their powers and new destiny, not how the character will react to it. We'll see that in-game!

Since any OC applications must fall in the range of fairy tales that already exist in the world of Myth Making, these will be held to a higher expectation.

Processing will result in applications being accepted or denied, or revisions requested. Don't worry if you're asked for revisions! It means we're interested in your app, but require more information about something. We'll let you know what that is. If you are asked for revisions, you'll be given one week to provide them.

You are allowed to re-use sections of applications you wrote previously, so don't worry about rewriting your entire personality section. Do NOT plagiarise any part of another player's application for your own, as this will result in an instant ban.

Test drive memes will go up on our meme comm, [community profile] mythmemes, the same day reserves open!

IC
Name: Cynthia
Canon: Claymore
Canon Point: Chapter 144
Age: Unknown. She appears to be around 18 years of age physically. However Claymores mature but they do not actually age. Keeping the seven year time skip in mind, Cynthia could be in her mid-twenties to early thirties.

Personality:
Cynthia is, quite possibly, the sweetest Claymore you'll ever come across. Ever. She's the nice one of the group, and her attitude is something rarely seen amongst the normally stoic, serious Claymores. With a cheerful disposition, she sees the glass as half full most of the time, and hopes for the best possible outcome in every situation. You never see Cynthia get mad or overly upset, unless something really bad happens, like the death of a comrade. She stays calm most of the time, with a smile on her face and a helpful word to try and motivate and keep the others going.

However, Cynthia can certainly not be called naïve. Cynthia would not have become Number 14 otherwise. She's a smart girl, who is quite capable of fending for herself, and she will certainly do so if provoked enough. She'll probably be a little nicer about it, but she will draw her sword if she must, just as her comrades would. Cynthia, while nice, is also far from being a pushover. She won't bow down and let people walk over her, but she won't bite down their throats to do so. She'll just be a lot nicer about everything. And she isn’t afraid to gently tease someone if she’s close enough to them. But she has to be close to them, and she’ll never say anything that will actually hurt the person. She’s a good-natured and gentle girl who happens to be pretty badass with a sword as well.

She is loyal to her comrades, and will always work to the best of her ability to get something done. She never questions her leader, and does what is requested of her at all times, trusting her leader and her friends. Cynthia believes in preserving as many lives as possible, striving to make sure that, ideally, there are no casualties. She believes that saving lives are more important than the fees she has had to collect for the Organization, and it is suggested in canon that she even went as far as to kill yoma for free. It is for this reason that she was sent to the war in the North.

Happy to put her life on the line, Cynthia does do well to hide her own insecurities behind that smile of hers. Cynthia suffers from survivor’s guilt after the war in the North. She sees herself as the weakest of the seven survivors of the Northern War, believing herself to be so because of her own guilt at having lived when her other comrades had died. Cynthia, while wanting revenge for the deaths of her comrades, is happy to sacrifice herself so that the other survivors of the war may live and fight on. She would rather her life be used to save another.

History: http://claymore.wikia.com/wiki/Cynthia

Canon Abilities or Powers:
Cynthia has all of the standard abilities that come with being a half-human, half-yoma hybrid. By taking on the flesh and the blood of a yoma, it has granted her enhanced speed, and strength. On top of this, she has the ability to sense yoki. In other words, she is able to sense demonic auras, and is thus able to hunt yoma down.

In the Claymore-verse, there are offensive-type Claymores and Defensive-type Claymores. The idea is that a warrior who focuses on killing the monster to survive becomes “offensive” while a warrior who focuses on protecting herself to survive becomes a “defensive-type”. Defensive-type Claymores excel at healing and can regenerate their limbs, while offensive types can reattach limbs that have been cut off, but may not be able to regenerate them. Cynthia is what you would call a defensive-type, and so she is capable of regenerating her limbs, and heals a lot faster than her offensive-type allies.

Over the seven years that Cynthia spent in the North, she has managed to develop her ability to manipulate the yoki of another, synchronizing theirs with her own in order to help speed up the healing process. She’s basically Claymore’s version of a nurse, offering to help others heal when they need it. She assists Galatea with her arm, Yuma with her leg and Helen with her eye at various points in the manga. However there is, of course, a limit to how many times she can use this ability. It requires a great deal of mental stamina, and if she uses it too much, she will grow weaker. It also hinders her own ability to heal, since she’s using her own yoki to help another, which can be bad news if she happens to get badly injured after healing everyone else.

The downfall of her abilities is that if she uses too much yoki, she will turn into a monster herself. Releasing 10% causes a Claymore’s eyes to change from silver to gold. Releasing 30% causes her face to distort, becoming more animalistic than human. Releasing 50% means the body distorts. Once she releases 80% she has reached her limit and risks awakening – turning into a bloodthirsty and horrific monster herself.

Cynthia was ranked number 14 when she was a part of The Organization. This means that as a Claymore, she was quite skilled. There are 47 ranks within The Organization. A Claymore with the rank of 47 is the weakest. To have made it to number 14 shows that Cynthia has a great deal of skill and ability.

Fairy Tale Role: Vasilisa from Vasilisa the Beautiful

Fairy Tale Powers or Abilities: Vasilisa possesses a little wooden doll. She is advised to give the doll something to eat and drink when she is in need, and the doll will help her. The doll is capable of performing normal tasks on behalf of Vasilisa to lessen her workload. The doll is capable of giving advice and seems to be rather intuitive, reassuring the girl that her father has not left her in one case. It tells Vasilissa what to do when she needs the advice.

Personal Items:
Cynthia’s claymore sword
The clothes on her back.

First Person Sample:
[It takes Cynthia a moment to actually try writing in the book. Magic is not a part of her world, so she finds it extremely curious. Maybe a little odd. It doesn’t frighten her; it just intrigues her more than anything.]

This is all really very strange, isn’t it? Words keep showing up in this book, and I’m not writing anything. Can anyone see this?

My name is Cynthia! How is everyone doing? I’m going to try and find as much about this place as I can. Hopefully, I’ll be able to get everyone home, okay? Just leave it to me! I promise that I’ll do my best!

Third Person Sample:
The people had been oddly friendly. Cynthia was rather surprised to receive such a warm greeting from a group of people she’d never met in her life. Being what she was, humans generally didn’t welcome her with open arms. It hurt when they called her a monster, but she did understand why they did it. To them, she was frightening. She was half-yoma and someday she would awaken and become a creature that fed off of humans unless something killed her first. She would have much preferred to give her life to save another, as well. It was always that way for her. She would always choose death so that another could live on.

She was quite a bit stunned at first, looking at the townsfolk with wide eyes when they greeted her so cheerfully, as though she was some kind of guest of honour. It was peculiar that they called her “Vasilisa” though, and as much as she apologised and insisted that they had the wrong person, her words were regarded as “nonsense.”

“I’m really sorry. You do have the wrong person though.” She said again, but they’d have none of that.

They were gone now, but her confusion remained. It did feel nice to be appreciated, but it would have been better if it was for her and not some stranger. However, Cynthia didn’t think she ever really needed welcomes anyway. When she was travelling and hunting yoma, she was doing it because she wanted to help everyone and ensure no lives were lost. Recognition was never needed. She was just doing what was right.

Along with her confusion, she was left with feelings of concern and worry. Poor Cynthia still didn’t know what, exactly, was going on.

“I don’t understand what’s happening, but I’ll get back somehow.” She spoke gently to herself. Her comrades were out fighting and she needed to fight alongside them. She wanted very much to be there to help them. They were her friends, after all.

“I’m not sure what this is all about, but I need to help my comrades now.”

A frown. The only thing she could do now was wander and try finding out as much as she could. As worried as she felt, there was always a glimmer of hope that things would be resolved. With a determined little nod, she started walking to find whatever could be found.

Do you play anyone in Myth Making?: NPCs Nope!

IC
Name: Riku Replica
Canon: Kingdom Hearts
Canon Point: Post-Chain of Memories, after he fades to darkness.
Age: Appears roughly 15. In reality he's existed for a matter of days. The life of a clone.

Personality:
"I'm me, he says. Must be nice being real. A fake like me could never get away with saying that."

If you asked the replica to tell you about himself, the first thing he would tell you is that he isn't real. Oh, he's as physically real as you and I. He exists as anything does that isn't imaginary, he can be touched and felt, and he can do the same. He can sleep, eat, bleed, and be hurt, very easily. He has free will and can think for himself better than some people ever do, and he can also be manipulated as well as any person. But he's an imitation of someone that already existed long before he was ever even thought of.

The replica began his existence as an experiment, a collection of data from a boy named Riku. Essentially, he's a clone, but in canon he's referred to as a "replica". A scientist named Vexen gathered the data from Riku himself (through battle, as it goes) and created an artificial being meant to challenge and test the original, real Riku, hoping that they could manipulate him through this. Later on the replica was tinkered with further, his real memories rewritten and replaced with a corrupted, fake version of Riku's own, and turned into a tool for manipulation against Sora. It worked pretty well, but ultimately it was more trouble for Organization XIII than he was worth. Sora beat the replica in every fight, and used his classic, kind-hearted, "I'll keep going as long as I have to to make things right" nature to get to the replica, unaware that he wasn't the real Riku. After all, he was his best friend. Sora has always been willing to do just about anything to rescue Riku, especially from himself.

Unfortunately, the replica was having none of it. Already more aggressive than Riku himself at the time, and now having his memories replaced with a desperate promise to protect Naminé at all costs? Well, that didn't mix well with having his supposed best friend (who, his memories were telling him, didn't care about them at all) try to steal the show, in his eyes. So when he got the opportunity for a killing blow, he took it. He wasn't counting on Naminé to stop him and literally shatter his heart.

It didn't kill him, but it came close enough. His memories now are clearer -- he remembers and knows that he's a replica of Riku himself, and that his past and the promise with Naminé was never real. He still feels the need to protect her, however, and holds true to that during the final battle in Castle Oblivion, protecting her while Sora defeats the big bad.

Accepting the truth of his existence and status, the replica could have done off to do anything. He chose to do what he could to make his fate solid and become a real person. Unfortunately, he chose to do this by attempting to kill the real Riku and was defeated as a result, fading out of existence. In the end, even as he died, both Riku and his replica respectfully accepted the other for who they were.

Because he's based on all Riku ever was, his past, memories, habits and personality are all based on Riku's own, and they picked a terrible time for it. At the time of the replica's creation, Riku was just beginning his path to healing and becoming less of a walking bag of dicks arrogant, gullible prick. So a lot of his personality is based on who Riku used to be. Arrogant, self-centered, cocky, and overconfident to the point of being obnoxious. It isn't completely unfounded: Riku grew up believing himself to be the best, and it might have been encouraged, if not by his parents than by his friends. He was always the most skilled fighter, something everyone willingly admitted. No one could beat him, not even three-on-one. He was always looked at as a leader. We never really see him taking charge and leading, and he might not even be as good as we're expected to believe he is during that point in canon, but he certainly accepts the opportunity and responsibility with ease. He's responsible for most of the serious work toward leaving the islands, and ultimately it's his hardheaded quest to find a new and exciting path that sets the events of the first game in motion. He also turned into something of a jerk over the course of the game, possessed by darkness and manipulated by Disney villains against his best friend. Again, this was overall bad timing for someone to make a clone of him.
"As long as you're around, I'll never be more than a shadow!"

Other than those key (and frustrating) traits of Riku's, there are some distinct differences between how he was then and how the replica is. Unlike him, the replica lacks most sympathy and understanding toward other people, even after his memories are fixed. He absorbs (and essentially kills) Zexion without a thought, for the sake of power, and is willing to do it again. Before his defeat by Riku's hand, he was willing to kill him, too, just for the sake of feeling real. He doesn't hold that murderous jealousy or hate toward Riku anymore, but he could still easily kill an enemy without feeling any emotional regret, and would likely brutally murder members of Organization XIII if given the chance.

While both are skeptical of strangers, Riku's more likely to investigate and come to his conclusion later. The replica, however, is more likely to become distrustful and aggressive right off the bat. If given the opportunity, the replica could probably form attachments just as easily as any other person, but he doesn't hold his friends to the same value Riku does. Or, the memories of friends, even before his memories are fixed. Sora means very little even by the end of the game, and Kairi's existence is largely overshadowed by Naminé's. The other kids on the islands are nothing more than a passing thought. It's obvious he would treat his friends differently than Riku's later devotion (and avoidance), if just for lack of experience.

The replica also carries a massive inferiority complex. He acknowledges that, compared to everyone else, he's not real, and at one point admits he's not worthy of even being with them. But the actual issue is aimed almost entirely at Riku. He's the original, the real version to his fake, who he was made to be a shadow of. Sure, he can easily say he was made to be a better version, a more powerful version, but everything his existence is based off of was borrowed from him. Being defeated and dying knocked him down a peg, and it was well-needed -- he's accepted himself for who he is, and no longer feels the need to defeat Riku to exist. There may even be a cautious respect for Riku, though it's not something he would ever admit to. At the very least, he doesn't taunt him about being afraid of the dark anymore. All that being said, the replica still doesn't consider himself real, or his own person, and won't upon entrance to the game.
"So it's over. Death doesn't frighten me. Good riddance to a phony life. My heart was never real.
I'm sure even what I'm feeling now is probably all fake."
"What are you feeling?"
"What happens when a fake dies? One like me... Where will my heart go? Does it disappear?"
"It'll go somewhere. Maybe to the same place as mine."
"A faithful replica until the very end. That's... okay."

Naminé... Naminé deserves mention, even if it's short, because her existence and power over his memories have left a huge impact on the replica. He knows it was all fake. He knows they never had a real promise, no past together. Despite that, he doesn't bear any grudges against her for what she did, and blames Organization XIII for it completely. He's forgiven her, to put it simply. Even if that promise wasn't real, he's willing to uphold it, and would feel a need to protect her if he ever met her again.

History: Riku Replica at the Kingdom Hearts wiki.

Canon Abilities or Powers: Physically fit to near-perfection, the replica has extraordinary strength surpassing that of your average teenage boy, increased speed, and lightning fast reflexes to match. Made to be an exact copy of Riku (who himself has absurd strength and abilities for a boy his age) he compares perfectly. (This seems to be a running trend in the Kingdom Hearts series, at least for most central figures. Riku spends some of the first game toting around his comatose friend, for example. Larxene, a thin and even more agile woman likely in her mid- to late-twenties, easily picks up the replica, in armor, with one hand.) Riku's Replica is also entirely capable of combat without magic, and uses the same acrobatic and quick style of Riku himself. Basically this involves a lot of jumping, sword slashing, spinning, and rushing in attempts to overwhelm his opponent with combos. As an example from a Riku app I wrote:

"Riku is a phenomenal fighter. Supposedly, up until the events in Kingdom Hearts, when play-fighting against his friends he went mostly undefeated. Some of the kids on the islands mention fighting Riku three against one in their early teens, and still being bested by him. Obviously he is capable of being defeated, most often by Sora, but he's still recognized as the most skilled fighter his age. Physically, Riku is both strong and fast. His fighting style is a lot of show and a lot of quick, hard attacks. More often Riku will strike from above. If he doesn't have the element of surprise handy, he goes for combo attacks. Ultimately it's about overwhelming his opponent so they slip up and provide an opening for him to do some real damage."

Aside from his physical agility and strength, he is able to summon a weapon of his own out of thin air: Soul Eater, an exact replica of Riku's original weapon, made from the darkness of his heart and more powerful when used in combination with dark magic. Likewise, he's capable of summoning a suit of armor from pure darkness that guards almost his entire body.

Like Riku, and several villains, he possesses a powerful control over darkness. Not only is he capable of teleporting (or wandering through the Corridors of Darkness) at will, he's able to form darkness into physical blasts of energy. Because of his increased hostility toward enemies compared to the real Riku, and disregard for the danger involved, he is capable of utilizing it to a higher degree than Riku himself. In the game mechanics, this translates to him taking less cards (or pure magic) to perform the exact same spells and attacks. Also, to further emphasize his connection to darkness, he absorbs a defeated and weakened Zexion before he can fade out. (Basically, he ate him. This only gave him a temporary boost in power, however.)

Fairy Tale Role: The Shadow, from Hans Christian Andersen's The Shadow.
Fairy Tale Powers or Abilities: Nothing in particular as far as abilities go. He's really just losing his. However, because of his being an actual shadow, the Replica will appear shaded at all times, as though he's standing in a dark room even when in direct, bright sunlight. (Much like Riku appears in CoM's Halloween Town.) To go along with that, he won't cast a shadow of his own at all.

Personal Items: The clothes on his back.

First Person Sample:
I wake up in a town I've never seen before and the first thing someone calls me is shadow? Is this a joke? Has the Organization been here, too? How would they know if that wasn't the case? Why does it matter

[ The previous sentence is written angrily and hard, and then heavily scratched through so that it's almost illegible. ]

Ha ha. Very funny. Just caught myself in the lake. Whose bright idea was it to suck the color out? Let me guess. It's so I can really look like a shadow. So EVERYONE can know.

[ There's several more scratches. Who knows if they were words. ]

Guess I'm not dead after all. There's one bright side.

Third Person Sample:
The surface of the lake is still and clear, and the tower at the center reminds him of the high floors of Castle Oblivion in a way that almost comes across as antagonistic. Almost as if it's mocking him. But the tower isn't alive, and there's nothing particularly ominous about it, even with its closed doors. The locals say it never opens. They also say the lights never go out. He stopped asking after that. Who cares? If he really wanted to he could find out, but it's not worth it, wasting time on some old tower without even a sense of abandonment.

Funny how that works.

But nevermind the tower. He's standing at the edge of the lake, and that's what has his real focus. Hands in his pockets, shoes just inches from getting soaked, looking overall like he just bit into something foul. Something about the water and how calm it is makes him want to avoid it, but it's the closest thing to a mirror that he has right now, and he'd like to figure out what's going on. The last thing he remembers is something he thought was death, but now he's walking around in some bright and cheery village where people are calling him a shadow. Like that's anything new.

Still, he's never looked like this before. It's almost laughable, if you think about it, knowing what it all implies. Darkened, shaded, whatever you want to call it, it's like all his color's been dimmed down, like he's standing in the shade. Seeing himself like that, the locals of the village make sense. Maybe he really did die. Maybe that's what this is, and this is how he'll be from now on.

His heel meets with the water and sends it rippling, distorting his already flawed reflection as he turns away.

"I am not a shadow."

Do you play anyone in Myth Making?: n/a

IC
Name: Michel Ney Enjolras
Canon: Les Misérables (novel)
Canon Point: Shortly before his death on June 6, 1832.
Age: 26

Personality: Enjolras is a serious man, not given to pleasantries or small talk and almost entirely without a sense of irony - he recognizes sarcasm (usually), but it's not a part of his own vocabulary. He's unfailingly earnest. Focused to the point of single-mindedness, he tends to organize everything around his own beliefs about what's important, and that's a short list: duty, right, and progress. Revolution and the ultimate elevation of the human race are his only ideals and only priorities. He's willing to use almost any means, admirable or otherwise, to achieve those ends, and that devotion often makes him fall short in more mundane roles like friend, son, or neighbor. While he's charitable and caring in the abstract, in one-on-one interactions he tends not to give people benefit of the doubt, sometimes valuing their contributions to his causes over their individual virtues. His personality - independent, reserved, emotionally level - makes the implementation of his beliefs into his immediate personal life harder than it might be for someone better at connecting with individuals.

Still, the driving force behind his all-consuming dedication is love. It was the foundation of the religious devotion he learned as a child - which, despite his ultimate renunciation of the Church as an institution, never fully went away - and it expresses itself now as a deep love of his nation and his fellow man. And while he doesn't acquire friends quickly (and has none who aren't in some way politically active) he does have a few. The years he's shared with the other members of Les Amis have brought him close to many of them as people, not simply as tools or ideals. He doesn't have the best understanding of his own emotions, not at all given to introspection or articulating how he feels, but he knows his friends mean a great deal to him. He can seem to run hot and cold in that regard - his affections are as intense as all of his other expressions of loyalty and faith, but they're always subordinated to his one true cause. He can go from sweeping acts of interpersonal love to ruthless disregard for the feelings of others as soon as they come into conflict with his designs.

Like any man, he has his pleasures and his private moments, his incongruities: his sweet tooth is formidable, he takes an almost childlike pleasure in his favorite meal, he's willing to go to almost embarrassing lengths to keep himself warmer than most people would find comfortable. He also retains some lingering guilty inclinations - for instance, he still has strong emotional responses to many aspects of the Catholic tradition. Because it seems inappropriate and often irrelevant, he very rarely shares these parts of himself with others. When he does, though, he finds it pleasurable in a way that hints at a kind of intimacy he doesn't make much place for in his life - which feels, to him, almost taboo.

Like his love, his disdain is more often abstract than personal, but people can certainly be forgiven for taking it personally - it's on the icy side, and doesn't come with a light touch. He's quick to become irritable when taken away from the things he feels are important, and while in every other aspect of his life he's absolutely sincere, the one thread of disingenuity that can sneak into his personality is spite. He can lash out powerfully and with great calculation, and in his wrath he doesn't hold back from using everything at his disposal, even if he ought to know it isn't fair or even really what he means. He often feels badly later, but since his apologies seem to come from a sense of moral obligation rather than from genuine emotion they're rarely enough.

For a man so thoroughly invested in the future, Enjolras is remarkably tethered to the past. His respect for institutions of filial piety and of republic are in some ways at odds with his dedication to progress; if you're looking for a paradigm shift, you won't find it here. He's not an innovator, and in many ways is hampered by his insistence on sticking to models he knows and values. His ideals are rooted just as much in what has been as in what can be, which lends him a certain concrete practicality, and also a single-mindedness that exists in dissonance with his expansive view of humanity and the future. He's at once rigid and free, and it's a contradiction that really doesn't serve him well.

History: Enjolras; Les Misérables; and, for historical reference, The Bourbon Restoration, the The July Revolution, the first two years, give or take, of the July Monarchy, and the June Rebellion. The novel doesn't touch on Enjolras' early history, so I've added the following.

Enjolras was born in 1806 near Toulouse to wealthy, middle class parents who were staunch supporters of Napoleon - and was named (much to his later chagrin) after one of the Emperor’s most well-liked officers, Maréchal Michel Ney, who was at that time something of a popular hero. One of his most vivid childhood memories is the discord surrounding the departure of the Imperial army and the arrival of the British, and his parents’ heated and apparently unpopular opinions on the matter. In a city full of rejoicing royalists, he had his first taste of political conflict.

He was raised to revere and was largely educated by the Church - another conflict of conscience, given his household’s politics - mostly at his mother’s insistence, but with his father’s not-too-unenthusiastic consent. His was a traditional family, at the end of the day, and he was well-suited to that - and, at first, to the religious atmosphere and its emphasis on faith, on discipline, and on revelation. He was a serious boy and grew into a serious, respectful, unfailingly well-behaved adolescent. He developed incipient politics and morals of his own under the influence of a Jesuit tutor and an elderly man, one of his father’s friends and mentors who had served in the Assembly and retired back to his family’s farm at the end of the century.

Despite the fact that his entire family was highly opinionated, articulate, and fond of discussion, he never really had a confrontation with his parents on the subject of politics - certainly never with his mother. He knew he would make his difference somewhere that wasn’t the home, and so preserved his domestic life as the peaceful, hierarchical place he believed it was supposed to be. For all his dedication to progress, there are plenty of boats he’s never been interested in rocking, and it never really occurred to him to try to reshape the dynamics of the family unit. After briefly considering entering the priesthood, he was dissuaded by his mother, and ultimately his opinions on the Church as an institution (if not on religion entirely) came to resemble those of his revolutionary predecessors. Instead, he entered the law school at the Sorbonne when he came of age.

Paris was a pilgrimage of sorts; and then it was much more. Between legal education and his intensely personal, devout study of and connection to the history he understood to be a living part of him and a great responsibility, he found his place and his calling. Through his classmates, their friends, charitable connections, and overtly political organizations, he began refining his own beliefs, which became a bit more radical without the softening environment he’d had in Toulouse. He soon found a steady group for whom he held both affection and admiration, and with them began what had always been his life’s work.

Canon Abilities or Powers: A natural aptitude for leadership and some tactical abilities that have never been formally developed.

Fairy Tale Role: Orestes; Greek Mythology.
Fairy Tale Powers or Abilities: Nothing useful, aside from the physical perfection attributed to most Greek heroes and some ability to interpret dreams. He leaves tracks of blood behind him which are visible to those who seek him (canonically only visible to the Eumenides, but I'd expand it to everyone here). His most defining quality is that he's haunted constantly by impossible decisions - damned if he does and damned if he doesn't - which actually aren't impossible at all, and might be rather obvious to anyone not bound as he is to such overly strict and literal interpretations of laws and moral codes. I'd like to shift Enjolras into his new role by chipping away at his present confidence in the propriety/necessity of violence - dealing him out some Oresteian consequences for his decision and seeding a little doubt and regret in him he's never before had to deal with.

Personal Items: A copy of Saint-Simon's Nouveau Christianisme; a Bible; a bloodied red banner smelling strongly of gunpowder.

First Person Sample:

I thought at first this must be death; there seemed to be no other place I could have gone. I see now it can't be. I'd be in more familiar company. Or - I'll not flatter myself - alone, and punished far more severely. Whatever death is, I can't believe it would be quite so cryptic. There would be no point.

I don't know who will read this. I have nothing to say on my own behalf. My reputation is worth very little to me. One can hardly embark upon the overthrow of a tyrannical government without expecting to be slandered. There are many names and accusations I'd embrace whole-heartedly.

But never - never - have I been called something quite so vile as a prince.

And so, as a citizen of the world, I lodge my objection.

Third Person Sample:

The fire was smoking - one of the many small inconveniences of the Musain - but Enjolras hardly noticed. The heat was very welcome against the snapping cold outside, the smell was inoffensive, and the sting in his eyes could hardly compete with the energy pushing through him like a second pulse - pushing through the entire back room, in fact, although now it was somewhat less populated than it had been an hour ago. His announcement, delivered earlier in the evening, that their friends at Aix, at Toulon, at the convergence of all those strategic points in the south not only stood with them but had begun stashing not inconsiderable armories along the road to Paris had been received with the enthusiasm it deserved. They were a long way off from a nation-wide uprising, of course; and it would be weeks, perhaps months, before the necessary arms reached the city. But it was a step, a very concrete step, the sort of movement that made one glance toward the horizon. And these days, when sometimes it seemed there could be nothing to look forward to but winter, it was good to be shaken. To cast off that lazy warmth and be reminded that soon something would be burning.

But now it was late; after a few hours of animated (he would never have said giddy) discussion of the development and its possibilities, the crowd had thinned to three or four stragglers, all of whom, at least after Combeferre had finally departed, appeared to have their own business to attend to. Enjolras paid no attention to them, least of all to that perrennial straggler who might as well have been a fixture of the café. He busied himself in writing letters (so much news to spread, so many oblique terms to put it in) because, to be perfectly honest, it was more appealing than walking home in this weather, and he could write here just as well as there. He didn’t live close by - across the river and some distance away - and even though the company was dwindling, even though there was nothing inherently appealing about this place, all the same he found he wanted to stay. It was a rare moment of what might have been sentimentality; a desire to preserve the fervor that would fade slightly once everyone had left.

And then he spilled his ink, which, perhaps, served him right. He sacrificed his handkerchief to sop up the mess, turned his attention back to his (mostly unstained) letter, and left the fabric soaking at the corner of the table as though that was simply where it belonged.

Grantaire | Les Misérables | Unreserved

[personal profile] ran 2013-12-07 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:

Grantaire is a man of contradiction, or rather a man who will claim one thing and do the other. He is a skeptic, yet he works hard to remain so; he disdains the idea of devotion, yet finds happiness in his group of friends; he claims to be in constant demand from women, yet is so homely that none want him. Most of what he says can never be taken at face value, so it is easier to understand his character from his actions rather than his words.

His skepticism is more than a dubious nature about the way of things. He has looked into many schools of thought, histories, and practices, and has found nothing that he can believe in or consider the truth. Much of this is due to his cynicism; he feels the main problem with everything is humanity. He thinks that humans, himself included, are ugly failures who are too selfish, power-hungry, unfaithful, what have you, to have anything good happen in the world. There can be no progress in society because of this, and so the idea of overthrowing a king to create an ideal world is laughable to him. Additionally, he can rarely see good qualities in people. To him, anything good borders on a fault, and he prefers to see the faults in people. All of this comes from a desire to avoid being let down when things inevitably end up poorly.

Grantaire's view of the world is outright depressing and so he does what he can to escape from it. The easiest way is, of course, alcohol and various other substances. His drinking is the most prominent, and it's clear he does it to forget the ugliness of life. Upon entering a wine-shop in the morning, he is automatically given two bottles of wine just for himself by the server. This can indicate his usual amount, but as his friends were beginning to arm up for a rebellion he later began to drink excessively to the point that he needed to be cut off. It is rare to see him when he is not drunk or drinking himself into that state, and though he is often troubled while sober, intoxication does not often help his outlook.

When he is drunk, Grantaire falls into quite an interesting state. Not only does he keep his opinions about the world, he is much louder about them. He does not send out quips, he creates entire speeches that are, more often than not, incredibly dramatic but intelligible. It is important to note that even while drunk he is capable of making historical and classical references in excess, showing that his mind is not horribly incapacitated. He is very indirect, disguising his complaints with metaphors and insults, and even distracting from the topic at hand in order to avoid whatever is going on. They are tangents upon tangents, and Grantaire is shown to be the type of person who can go on and on about any subject even without prior knowledge of it.

That is not to imply that he has a lack of knowledge by any means. Grantaire, in his tirades, tends to say that he is ignorant, or stupid, and then goes on to show otherwise. As has been stated, he can allude to a number of sources while drunk, but when trying to convince Enjolras to send him to the Barriere du Maine, he lists his qualifications. He has read up on political works and groups, memorized some of them, and understands their cause well enough. It is said by the narration that it is his skepticism that decays his intelligence (it is more that the idea of cynicism is looked down upon in the book; hence Grantaire), and makes it so that he does not subscribe to any one belief or cause. In a show of irony, it is said that he is one of the students to have learned the most in Paris--not through schooling, but through his wandering. He knows a great amount about the city through that, mostly the best places to enjoy himself.

It should be said that Grantaire is not entirely a depressive drunk. He has his hobbies, and is said to have at least participated in things like savate, dancing, and single-stick. Combined with his description as a "rover" it's obvious that he is fairly active outside of his persona at ABC meetings. His wandering, however, is further proof that he cannot settle into one idea, place, or belief. The only consistency he has is with the Friends of the ABC. In addition, he has a good sense of humor. He is often sarcastic in what he says, generally ironic, and never passes up a chance for a pun; so much so that he made a rebus of his own name and will call himself (Grand) R. He is often melodramatic when he speaks, even complaining that he hates humanity after having a bad oyster. He is described as a libertine and therefore finds very little shame in his actions and has rather poor morals. In his playfulness, he is often insulting, to others or himself. He will say what is on his mind without much of a filter, but his friends seem to enjoy it.

At times, however, bits of truth can be found in his jokes. When speaking of Marius's love affair, he starts out very much mocking him, however he very quickly becomes poetic about love to the point where he seems genuine. In fact, despite Grantaire's staunch position against any sort of belief, he very much wants to be able to believe in something. The excessive cynicism in his speech when drunk is often a way of being contrary. He scorns loyalty, but is an incredibly loyal individual. His friends mean very much to him, as they are, in his mind, a rare sort of people who are genuine in their beliefs and convictions. The narration says that he finds his only happiness when he is around them, showing that he needs to be in the company of others to be satisfied. When they are going towards what he believes is their death, he drinks himself into unconsciousness so that he does not have to see his friends die.

In actuality, Grantaire does maintain belief. He cares for his friends because they are genuine in their cause, and so it is only right that the most absolute of their group attracts him. In fact, he "admired, loved, and venerated" Enjolras. Their relationship is complicated and full of metaphors, so in essence: Enjolras and Grantaire are complete opposites which is exactly why Grantaire is drawn to him. It is not because of what Enjolras preaches or his ideals, but because he believes so strongly in everything he says. Metaphorically, this means that Grantaire is "the other side" of Enjolras's existence which shows that he is, in a sense, incomplete. He is dependent on Enjolras, but is notably unaware of the effect Enjolras has on him.

Their relationship is compared to that of Orestes and Pylades, with Grantaire being an "unaccepted Pylades." This shows that although Enjolras rejects and disdains him, Grantaire is endlessly loyal to him, as well as the rest of their friends. There have been times where Grantaire tries to prove himself to Enjolras, but they end in failure because he becomes distracted and doesn't complete his task. Still, when he wakes to find Enjolras about to be shot, he chooses to die with him and manages to settle with a belief at the end of his life.

History:

Little is known of Grantaire's history before the events of the book, save for what he says himself in drunken rants. Said rants are not entirely truthful and often contradict each other, but for the purpose of extrapolation we can consider them vaguely truthful.

Grantaire's age is unstated save for him being the same age as Bossuet, who was at least twenty-five when introduced. Some French versions contain a timeline that states Bossuet was born in 1803, so I'll be using that as the year of his birth.

He was born in the south of France and moved to Paris at some point for schooling. He claimed to have never had any money, but he had enough for an apartment, university, and copious amounts of alcohol and gambling. He was not mentioned to be wealthy like some of the others, though, so it can be assumed he was not quite as well-off as them. He stated that his father always detested him for not understanding mathematics, and there is no mention made of his mother. Either he was setting up for a pun, or he was actually a student of the artist Antoine-Jean Gros. In any case, he went on to say he wasn't as fond of painting apples as stealing, and he seems to have no other connection to art so it is safe to say that it no longer lingers with him.

Though the purpose of Paris was for school, he spent less time with studies and more with wandering about the city. He is said to know of all the best restaurants and entertainment. Somehow he found out about the secret group, The Friends of the ABC. They were dedicated to elevating the people of France and rallying against the king, and Grantaire decided to stay with them. He found the wine-shop, Corinthe, that they subsequently met in and built the barricade near.

His time with them was spent as a disruption to whatever work they were doing, but they did not mind him coming because he had a good sense of humor. When another man is needed to go to the Barriere du Maine and convince the men there to align with their cause, Grantaire volunteered. Though Enjolras was dubious about giving him the job, he allowed it and Grantaire went on his way. Unfortunately, when Enjolras checked up on him, he found him playing dominoes instead of tempting them toward rebellion.

As time neared for the rebellion, Grantaire gradually began drinking more and more. Enjolras eventually demanded he leave, but he asked to stay until he died and passed out drunk on the table. He stayed there, sound asleep, throughout the entire rebellion despite guns and cannonballs firing around the building. It was only when a distinct silence was created by preparation for Enjolras's execution that he awoke, perfectly sober. Though the National Guard did not see him there, he announced his presence and went to stand beside Enjolras. He asked permission to die beside him, and it was granted.

Canon Abilities or Powers: A normal human with a liver of steel. He has quite a good memory, an extensive knowledge of history and literature, and can talk non-stop for about four pages.

Fairy Tale Role: Pylades; Greek Myth. (The Libation-Bearers/Iphigenia in Tauris)
Fairy Tale Powers or Abilities: Nothing much! Grantaire will gain a better ability to protect others and can tend to spells of madness as Pylades did for Orestes. Specifically, he will gain the ability to be a calming presence, unintentionally and on a very low-scale for those around him, but particularly with the role of "Orestes." (Previously discussed with the Enjolras applicant!)

Personal Items:

1 full bottle of wine.
1 set of packaged dominoes.

First Person Sample:

Being a sort of cosmopolitan man as I am, I set out to explore this land's culture. The first priority of a traveler should always be to examine the local public houses. [ Later known, of course, as pubs. ] The taverns of Spain, for example, offer a variety of women. A trait a man cannot rightly scoff at, if only their tittering did not come out as guffaws. Obviously, I have not traversed Spanish lands since.

This is no Spain, and so I had a particular stride as I went to these taverns. Would you believe what occurred? I was sampling a particular drink when I heard whispers in the corner. Now, I did my duty and listened in, for why else was I given ears? What would you know, I was greeted with "Pylades"-this, "Pylades"-that, and what they said of dear Electra!

I can assure you that I will only return in the earliest of mornings for a taste of wine.

Do you play anyone in Myth Making?: Naoto Shirogane | Persona 4 Golden

IC
Name: Shinjiro Aragaki
Canon: Persona 3 Portable
Canon Point: Following Graduation (and awakening from his coma)
Age: 17

Personality: When first introduced, Shinjiro is best summed up as a rough individual. He's crass and tough, hanging around some shady people in the Alleyways of Tatsumi Port Island. Of course, he does later beat them up when they hassle the Protagonist and friends looking for him to find out more about the recent school rumors, proving he has no qualms resorting to violence. As they are the new members of SEES, he gives them what little he knows and tells them to leave, not wanting them around to remind him of the old days.

At this point, we don't know that Shinjiro was an original member of SEES. He smiled, joked, and had a great deal of sarcasm, but his joining was unexpected. Mitsuru only recruited Akihiko originally, but Shinjiro forced himself in to make sure Akihiko would be alright. The two met years ago, growing up in the same orphanage and had become brothers; they were always there for each other. Following the loss of his sister in a fire, Akihiko became determined to become stronger to prevent losing more people he loved, but Shinjiro saw it his job to rein his friend in and make sure he didn't get too cocky. Unfortunately, looking after Akihiko, Shinjiro neglected reining in himself and lost control of his Persona while on a mission. It was something Akihiko had feared and now, it was reality. On that fateful night, Shinjiro took a young mother's life and left SEES shortly after.

His tough persona outwardly expressed covers up the more compassionate and gentle individual inside, eaten by guilt and willing to die if it means preventing more mistakes like his. He only joins SEES again to look after Ken and confront the younger male in order to try preventing him from taking his revenge. However, if Ken still wanted to go through with it, Shinjiro would let him. If Ken decided not to, Shinjiro was still going to die as a side effect of a drug suppressing his Persona's power.

Still, concern isn't only directed at Ken. While he is top priority, Shinjiro actually cares for all the members of the current SEES even if he has funny ways of showing it. He does small things like chides Akihiko about his constant Beef Bowl consumption (damn Protein Junkie), makes sure Fuuka doesn't destroy the kitchen, and even prepares Koromaru's food himself. The kitchen is actually Shinjiro's domain as he's a skilled chef. Also, he can't keep himself from revealing his big heart to animals especially dogs. It's due to this concern that it takes a while for him to come around to trusting people, the Protagonist especially as their leader in combat.

History: Shinjiro Aragaki on Megami Tensei Wikia

Canon Abilities or Powers: Shinjiro is built like a powerhouse both normally and through his ability to summon a Persona. Yes, he's one of the three original members of SEES having signed on after Akihiko did. However, he doesn't exhibit the same amount of control over it like Akihiko and Mitsuru which results in the accident which made him leave. His Persona, Castor, has no weaknesses or resistances, proving he's an all or nothing combatant. This is further exemplified by the fact all of Castor's abilities are physical attacks IE summon abilities that cost the user's Health Points. To counter this fact though, Castor can also counter attacks and restores Shinjiro's health by a certain percent each round.

Besides his Persona, Shinjiro relies on his own physical strength. He can withstand the brunt of most attacks and even Akihiko's fists (Akihiko being a trained boxer) and dish out worse in return. A single fist or headbutt can send the average guy flying or knock them flat on their ass. Also, it's worth noting that his weapon of choice is an axe which he typically carries with one hand over his shoulder.

Fairy Tale Role: The Older Brother from "The Two Brothers" by the Brothers Grimm (that's not a tongue twister)

Fairy Tale Powers or Abilities:
• Gold Production - Part of the tale has the twin brothers consume two bits (the heart and liver to be accurate) that fall from the golden bird. After eating these two pieces respectively divided between them, both brothers begin to wake up with a single gold coin beneath their heads every morning. It happens every time he sleeps, there's no helping it whether Shinjiro wants it to happen or not.

• Gift of Gab - Or the ability to speak to and befriend animals (if he wants). The tale has the two brothers hunt and spare a hare, a fox, a wolf, a bear, and a lion in that order. As a result, each brother is given the offspring of each animal as thank you and goes on to travel with them. Shinjiro will have the company of these animals, but considering how he already prefers animals to people. There's also a dog, but that one was a gift from their foster-father.

• Huntsman Skills - While already able to fight and a cook, he'll gain the marksmanship and swordsmanship abilities of his character as well as gain his weapons: one gun and a double-edged sword.

• Twin Illusion - Though Shinjiro may not look exactly like his twin or vise versa, it's like a momentary illusion that keeps people from telling them apart. Only once told apart will it be broken, but it resets every time upon meeting.

Personal Items: His beanie, his usual clothes (maroon pea coat, boots, pants, you know), a dented silver pocket watch, and that's it. He just recently got out of a coma.

First Person Sample:
Getting dragged into this shit grows old fast. 'Older Brother'. Last I checked, I'm not anyone's older brother. A guy can't rest easy anymore and these assholes aren't helping flocking around constantly.

[The writing stops for a moment. When animals can read, 'I wasn't talking about you' has to be repeated six times.]

If I find Aki and he's behind this, I'll kick his ass. Guess I can't do that if he isn't though. Dammit, what the hell's going on and how do I get out of it?

IC
Name: Faris Scherwiz
Canon: Final Fantasy V
Canon Point: Early on, after getting separated from Syldra and the ship drifts into the Ship Graveyard. Note: At this canon point she still is unaware that she's royalty, though she has suspicions.
Age: 20.

Personality:
In canon, Faris is attributed with the element of fire, due to her courage. She's fiercely loyal and protective of those she cares about and recklessly jumps to their aid. When her sister (Lenna) is being accosted by hunters, even when the rest of the hero party is helplessly stuck on the other side of a chasm, Faris doesn't hesitate to leap across to save Lenna. Pre-canon, this courage earns her the respect of the pirates who raised her and she was made pirate captain by the age of fifteen for her heroics in rescuing their ship from being sucked into a whirlpool.

But being heroic and brave doesn't mean she's necessarily self-sacrificing. Before joining the heroes on their journey (and before learning that Lenna (the princess of Tycoon) is actually her sister), she initially considers taking Lenna for ransom, and initially when she does join them, it's because she wants to learn about her forgotten past. At the end of the game, instead of staying behind to take her place as the Queen of Tycoon, she opts to run off, and return to her life as a pirate, valuing her freedom more than any obligations she may have as a monarch.

To put it all simply, Faris lives by her own rules and her own moral code. While she prefers the nomadic life of a pirate, and doesn't really like to get wrapped up in the day-to-day trivialities of the kingdoms around her, she isn't so callous as to not care when the world is in danger. When she's chosen as one of the destined warriors to save the Crystals and the world, she falls into her role quickly and without complaint.

Having lived most of her life disguising her gender, Faris doesn’t exactly subscribe to traditional gender roles, and she's far from ladylike. She has a very "take it or leave it" sort of view on life and doesn't waste a lot of energy on what she thinks is trivial. When the party discovers that she is a woman, her response is little more than "Deal with it". (Galuf: Oh, my stars and comets! HE'S A SHE! Faris: Well- maybe I am! You got a problem with it!?)

While she's pretty rough around the edges when you first meet her, Faris does have a softer side to her (deep, deep down inside), and she cares deeply for those close to her. In the beginning of the game, when she discovers Lenna has an identical pendant, she is determined to figure out if she finally found her birth family, and she grows quite attached to her sister and her father. The sea dragon, Syldra is Faris' closest friend, and almost like a sister to her, and when she dies, Faris is heartbroken, and takes to quietly mourning her friend. The softer sides of her are few and far between, though, and she’s more likely to respond harshly, even when she really is worried (when Galuf is dying "Get up, you old bat! Quit playing around, this isn't funny!")

History: Herefinalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Faris_Scherwiz
TL:DR: Faris was born a princess but lost as sea as a child and raised as a pirate. Eventually discovers who she really is, helps save the world, and returns to her life as a pirate.

Canon Abilities or Powers: In the game, each crystal they find gives them new “jobs” to learn the skills from (i.e. black mage, white mage, thief, dragoon, etc). She's from early in the canon, after only getting the first crystal so the only jobs available to her would be Knight, Monk, Thief, Black Mage, White Mage and Blue Mage. but I'm fine with her losing any magical ability and just sticking with skill with a sword/normal pirate-y skills.

Fairy Tale Role: The Prince(ss?) (The Prince and the Pauper)
Fairy Tale Powers or Abilities: None really. The ability to pass as both nobility and commoner?

Personal Items: A sword, the clothes on her back, a pendant (that is identical to the pendant the princess of Tycoon wears)

First Person Sample:
[Pirates aren't well known for their love of books and writing, but Faris is a little more learned than others of her station. Still, when she finally takes to writing in the mysterious book with the magically appearing letters, her handwriting is unpracticed and sloppy. The text is rife with spelling errors.]

Prince huh?

Don't think this book is mine, but if you know the bloke who dropped it, let him know he can have it back-

[There's a significant pause before she adds:] For a small fee, of course.

[Sorry, Faris still has to eat, and this book ought to be worth at least a few gold (or whatever passes for gil around here).]

Do you play anyone in Myth Making?: No

IC
Name: Gavroche
Canon: Les Misérables (Mostly musical but with some novel to pad him out and some movie canon such as canon point)
Canon Point: At the barricade; after his sister has died, while he is sent on an errand to deliver a note to Cosette for Marius
Age: Roughly 9 or 10

Personality: Gavroche has once been referred to as one of the most "appealing and tender characters in fiction." Clothing wise, Gavroche always looks scruffy, described in book as wearing his father's old trousers which come down to his heels. He is also underfed, though not to any extremely obvious extent, especially when compared with his siblings. He's happy to be a street urchin - gamin - through and through, knowing the streets of Paris extremely well, and claiming the whole city as his home. His hair is longish and unkempt, very certaintly matted. He is vaguely dirty but there is an attempt to seem as though he has been cleaned recently. That isn't to say that he is clean by any standard; it is simply that he has the appearance as though his face has met with clean water at some time in the last week. Appearance wise, he can generally be described as adorable with a cheeky smile. He appears to be the leader of a group of street children, refering to them as his 'kids' and generally taking care of them as though he were already an adult. This is a good way to think of Gavroche, as he certainly doesn't see himself as a child.

Gavroche has no real care as to how the outside world sees him. He may not be able too afford to eat every single day, but if he so chooses, he goes to the theatre every night. He appears to be the eyes and ears around the slums and other areas of Paris, and can be the one to provide necessary and important information to Les Amis d'ABC, such as the death of General Lamarque. As mentioned above, he is the leader of the gang of street children, and is proven to be the most capable of the bunch. He does not show his own fear at any time, gettiing to a point where you wonder if he feels fear, and generally acts as if he owns the town. In his mind, he is the Mayor of Saint Michel, and he acts in a manner that befits his own sense of self importance.

Gavroche is also a fiercely proud revolutionary, believing in the Republic with a fervor that few adults seem able to claim. He proudy wears the tri-colour rosette each and every day, and generally seems quite capable of keeping his ear to the ground when it comes to the political situation of the city. He sees Les Amis d'ABC as friends, though he is more of a believer in 'something for you, something for me' rather than someone who begs for charity. Among the Amis he is closest to Courfeyrac or Grantaire (depending on the production), and seems to be fairly well respected by them in return for his providing information. The Amis are not Gavroche's only connection, he does have family. He is the eldest son of M. and Mme Thérnadier, and has an elder sister, Éponine. However, he doesn't really pay much mind to his family, and vice versa. He may go to see them once in a while, but he does not live with them, nor rely on them to get by in the world.

On the inside, Gavroche is very similar to the presentation he gives to the outside world. He is a happy child, bringing happiness and humanity into situations where he enters with his purity of spirit. This is shown by his actions. While everyone else in Les Misérables are hardened characters, Gavroche shows kindness to everyone he meets, once giving away a shawl that was the only thing keeping him warm in winter to a girl older than him as she appeared to be cold.

Gavroche only really has one 'enemy'; Javert, who he sees as being the complete opposite of all that he believes in; strict, unbending order in comparison to Gavroche's own unruly imaginativeness. He is one of the strongest believers in the Republic, and one of the few at the barricade who did not even need to think about leaving when offered the chance to before the shooting started. Gavroche aimed to see the thing through successfully, and he wasn't leaving until he had done so.

He is rather dissmissive of police and authority in general, be this from being a street urchin, or simply from his belief that those in power are doing nothing to help the everyday folk of France. He does not exactly believe in charity either, believing more along the lines of something for you, something for him. Whether this is a trait of being a Thérnadier isn't entirely clear, but it does appear to be a philiosophy that Gavroche follows

History: Gavroche on Wikipedia

Canon Abilities or Powers: Gavroche has no real powers or abilities, unless one considers the ability to look after himself extraordinarily well, considering his young age and that fact that he lives during one of the most turmulent times of France's history. Gavroche is a highly capable young person, able to look after not only himself, but any other kid that comes around. He is talented at being able to get money and food for himself, and rarely has to go 'on the rob'.

Fairy Tale Role: Peter Pan.
Fairy Tale Powers or Abilities: As Peter, Gavroche would be able to fly without any sort of aid. This would be amazing to Gavroche on it's on, but with it comes a sort of easy grace, the ability to move himself in a fluid like manner. Also, as Peter, Gavroche will find that his skills with a blade have rapidily improved, as Peter must be able to fight off the grown up pirates. He can also achieve a range of vocal mimicry, the best to confuse the evil pirates with.

It may also be prudent to suggest that as Pan, Gavroche would seemingly have the ability to converse with mermaids and faeries, and a strong ability to make-believe anything within reason. As he would not be in the actual Neverland, this ability would obviously be limited, and it would also be limited by Gavroche's own reluctance to believe in something so fantastical

Personal Items: Gavroche doesn't really have any personal items apart from his clothes on his back, the shoes on his feet, and his little tricolour rosette.

IC
Name: Eponine Thenardier (though she’ll give her name as Eponine Jondrette too)
Canon: Les Miserables
Canon Point: The end of the chapter called ‘The Watch Dog), which is basically when she leads Marius to Cosette, and prevents her father and his gang from robbing Cosette’s house. In the musical (though I am going off the book canon, this might be a helpful reference point if you’ve not trawled through the novel) this equates to ‘A Heart Full of Love’, followed by ‘The Attack on the Rue Plumet’.
Age: Eponine’s age is unclear. Hugo gives her various ages, from 16 through to 18. She is said to look older than what she actually is, ‘a hideous mix of fifteen and fifty’, apparently.

Personality: Eponine began life as a spoiled brat. She was an odious child, with long, dark braids and a plump, pretty face, dressed in the best clothes her mother could provide. Doted on and indulged by everyone, including the drunkards in the inn, Eponine grew used to getting her own way in everything. And she absolutely loved to show off in front of Cosette and make her jealous. She actively sought to get Cosette in trouble with her mother and found it funny when the poor little girl was beaten. She also established herself as a leader; her little sister looked up to her in admiration and followed Eponine’s lead. It was clear that at this early age, Eponine ruled the roost.

With her dramatic lifestyle shift, so too did her personality change. It was forced to. It is impossible to chart the events which made her personality change, because of the ten year gap in the narration of her tale, but it is, of course, possible to see how her personality affects her actions when the narrative begins again.

Eponine’s tough. She’s had to be. She has grown up in a hostile environment, where the philosophy of ‘every man for himself’ is predominant. She knows how to stand up for herself, and she is not one to back down in an argument. This is shown in the manner with which she deals with her father and the gang on the Rue Plumet. Her father calls her a bitch, the other men deride her and threaten her with knives and fists, and she carries on shouting back and jeering at the men. She lets their comments slide over her head, perhaps indicating she is used to the name calling. She carries herself well, and can talk to most people. Her chatter comes across as awkward at times, or even inappropriate. She flirts with Marius as best she can– but again, it comes across as awkward. Hugo describes her as a trapped bird flitting around Marius’ room, a melancholy and desperate sight. Uncomfortable amongst wealth now, she tries to fit in, but ultimately cannot. She is nervy. She speaks more than she should to people she doesn’t know, and is very open about herself and her life. Within minutes of meeting Marius, she tells him about her suicide consideration. Her words come without a great deal of thought, in a tangle of argot slang and French when she’s nervous. The more in control she tries to seem, the more ladylike she tries to act, the more it comes off as an act, a sham– sheer desperation. Hugo says that Eponine might have been gay and flirtatious, like any proper society miss, as her exuberance and feistiness bubbles from her, despite her drab life– but the reality of being poor has rendered her uneducated and out of her depth in social situations with her ‘betters’. Eponine longs to be a lady, but by the end of her story, she realises it’s something she’ll never be able to attain.

She’s not much use in a fight, and relies more on her tongue to get out of situations. When Eponine knows a person well, she’ll talk back at them, jousting with words, even if they threaten physical violence. She herself does not rely on physically fighting; she knows she is weak from starvation and in a world of men, she never has the power to win physically. Eponine reacts to danger by facing it head on and without flinching. She will accept violence against herself as well as she can, with her head raised high and a glare in her eyes. Eponine is very difficult to scare; her life has desensitised her to a lot of horror. She’s seen things, in prison and out, that no teenager should ever see, and she’s experienced more abuse and hardship than a lot of people will ever see. She is also very good at hiding any signs of her fear too. Fear is considered a weakness in the Underworld, and Eponine quickly learned to hide that particular emotion a long time ago. She will talk back at those who wish her harm, and she will unashamedly flirt and talk candidly to them. She lets insults wash over her head; she has heard so many insults in her time that they simply don't bother her any more.

Some would describe Eponine as cold– but she’s not, not really. It’s a show, an act she puts on, so people don’t try to mess her about. She seems to react with indifference to a lot of things– she’s world-weary and brow beaten so much that she finds it difficult to be enthusiastic enough to show her emotions in her actions. She can barely smile, barely cry. But deep down, Eponine is an emotional little creature. She’s completely in love– or no, not love, but lust. She’s in lust with Marius, a student, who doesn’t return, or even acknowledge her feelings. I say lust because I truly believe that Eponine’s life has stunted her emotional ability. She is unable to truly love because she has never known love. Marius, for Eponine, is an escape from her life. He is a living fairytale prince that she falls instantly for. He is generous, he gives her food and money, and he doesn’t offer her violence and name calling. Compared to her usual companions, he is soft and well spoken– and he reminds Eponine of the life she SHOULD have had. Eponine craves love though. It’s what drives her. Show her any hint of kindness, and she becomes a lapdog, eager to please and willing to do anything, even if it causes her physical or emotional pain– shown in the way she agrees to lead Marius to Cosette, despite quite wanting to keep the two apart for her own selfish gain. But, knowing Marius would be unhappy without Cosette, she agrees to show him the way. Eponine wants attention. She laughs inappropriately and says the wrong thing a lot of the time. She’s outspoken and will say what she thinks, regardless of the consequences.

Eponine is defiant. She hates what her father makes her do, but she has to participate. Still, she does it all with a glare in her eyes and her mouth pressed into a hard line. She often shouts back before giving in– demonstrated in her apartment. Thenardier wants Eponine to wait in the snow outside, and she is quick to point out that she has no shoes and her feet will freeze and she’s sarcastic– but ultimately bows to his wish. The exception is when she is protecting Marius. She stands up to her father and the Patron Minette properly for the first time and it costs her her home and her family alliance, essentially leaving her destitute. Eponine’s love for Marius is greater than any love or fear that she has for her Papa.

She does what she has to do to survive. She can be incredibly manipulative, if she thinks she will gain from it. Eponine says that most people believe what she says; I’m guessing that the exceptions tend to be those in authoritative positions in Paris. She is incredibly brave and doesn’t seem to have a great sense of personal danger. Eponine will face any adversity that comes to her head on; it is not really in her nature to hide. And she will face her fate with a straight back and a defiant glare. Nobody will feel pity for Eponine. She is brave till the very end. She is not stupid, though. She’s practical. If there is a way to avoid a beating, either through lies or staying away for a night, Eponine will take that option. After all, as she says, ‘there’s no point in looking for a beating I could avoid, is there?’ She is pretty much fearless though – the only thing that seems to truly scare her are the monsters in her head.

Eponine is loyal. If she feels obliged to someone, she will bow to their will, whether she agrees with their actions or not. This is seen particularly with her Papa and the Patron Minette. She is more loyal to those who show affection towards her than those who intimidate her, though. A lot of the time, she’s scared and she’s wary, and she has the same cautious expression as a hunted animal.

She doesn’t consider herself to be at all beautiful; she thinks she’s disgusting, and that she doesn’t deserve a happy life. Eponine loathes herself. She hates everything about herself, from the dirt she is encrusted in, to the criminal that her Papa has turned her into. She cannot see anything positive about herself at all; but she forces herself to continue with life. She loves mirrors, and will stand and stare at her reflection, pinking and preening, remnants of her childish vanity. This is evidenced when she goes into Marius’ room to check he is not there, and tells her father she is searching– whilst she is, in fact, staring at her reflection. Her self hatred is evident throughout. She makes a lot of self-depreciating remarks, and constantly refers to her social class as something shameful. She’s open about her imprisonment; it’s something almost expected of her after all, but again it fuels her hatred for what she has become, and the impossibility of her life.

She is somewhat bitter, especially towards those better off than her. Jealousy is one of Eponine’s biggest failures. She is jealous of Cosette when they meet again as adults, and this only intensifies when she finds that Marius loves Cosette. Cosette, for her, represents what Eponine’s life should be, and I think she thinks she is living Cosette’s destiny. It’s hard for Eponine to see Cosette, especially having everything, whilst she starves and freezes to death. She desperately wants a better life, but knows she will never have one. Eponine is not much of a fighter, though. As much as she hates her station in life, she has accepted it, and is willing now to ‘go with the flow’, to go where life takes her. She fights back at her end – she fights for her love – and it ends in her death.

Eponine is argumentative. Hugo calls her a ‘squabbling sparrow’ several times in the novel, which indicates that her arguments can come across as annoying to other people. She is incredibly defensive, and will stick up for herself in an argument, no matter who it is against and no matter whether she is likely to win or not. S

Eponine has some psychological problems, although Hugo says that she is not mad. She has been known to suffer from hallucinations when she is very, very hungry. She tends to laugh as well, in very inappropriate places, a nervous reaction perhaps. She is also known to be quite suicidal; the winter of 1931, Eponine considered wading into the Seine to drown herself– she didn’t because she was scared that it wouldn’t work and it would be too cold. This is perhaps an indication that Eponine cannot cope with her life as well as she seems to on the surface.

Eponine can be sweet. She likes flowers; she finds them soothing after the horrors of Paris. She is somewhat of a dreamer, and likes to imagine herself as a proper lady, dancing with Marius. She can’t let the people she loves end up hurt. She’d literally rather take a bullet for them than let them be injured. Eponine likes to sing; she has always been told that she has an awful voice, but she doesn’t care. She likes to sing and often hums away to herself, singing old French ditties and raunchy ballads, and songs that she makes up herself. Her mother says she is a waste of space, but she isn’t really. She just… She wants to be able to learn. She wants to study with the scholars, but she knows that’ll never be. She can just about read and write her name, and is very proud of these facts as it shows her higher class breeding and makes her stand out in the crowds of destitute teenagers. It takes her a while to read, and longer to write anything beyond ‘Eponine’ and ‘the police are coming’. She’s very intelligent, and picks things up quickly. She is very street smart, and has the potential to be book smart too. Hugo says that Eponine could have been cheery and lively, a real society miss, had circumstances allowed her– and this gaiety CAN bubble through at times. She is vain, too, given half the chance. She spends as much time as she can in Marius’ apartment staring at herself in the mirror, preening, even to the extent that she lies to her dad about what she’s doing so she can continue, as noted previously.

Steadfast is also a word to describe her; she'll stick to the people she likes, no matter what they ask of her.

Eponine is naturally proud. She doesn’t want to be pitied, and hates the fact that people do pity her. She’s playful, and somewhat of a tease when she’s around people she’s comfortable with. She teases Marius, and Montparnasse too. With strangers, she’s more wary of ending up in trouble. Her speech is often colloquial; only when she talks of love does she become more poetic.

Eponine is obsessed with social classes. It’s something she feels acutely, probably because of her dramatic class shift. She’s the bottom of the pile, but she wishes she could climb higher. Throughout the novel, she takes every opportunity she can to show that she is of a higher class than she seems, but ultimately acknowledges and accepts her place in society. The shift comes after her imprisonment; possibly because of her experiences in jail and her realisation that she is a criminal and nothing more and will not be able to rise past that. It’s probably affected by the political situation in Paris too; girls her age and in her situation were often rounded up and accused of prostitution, without any evidence against them, and were submitted to degrading tests to check them. The lack of food and clothes when she saw others warm and fat probably fuels her resentment too– and, of course, her father’s treatment of her as well, all adds up to a girl who has learned to hate herself and her social position and resent almost everybody in positions of power over her who subject her to this life.

In all, Eponine craves affection. She wants to love and be loved. She wants a happy life. She wants Marius. She wants pretty dresses and a bath and the opportunity to learn. But she has no hope that she’ll ever get any of this. It’s there, she can see it, but for Eponine, it is going to be forever out of reach. And she’s accepted that. And she will face her fate bravely.

Do you play anyone in Myth Making?: Nope

IC
Name: Finn
Canon: Warrior U
Canon Point: Post A Very Short Engagement
Age: 14

Personality:
Finn is someone that others are quick to label as "pathetic." Growing up with a number of phobias and anxiety issues, he's developed into quite the little survivor--he may go out of his way to avoid fighting his own battles, but in the end he will do just about anything to ensure his own well-being. This combined with the way his mother raised him has turned into into a spineless, shameless coward who is incredibly needy and entirely too dependent on other people.

Because Finn's agoraphobia left him too scared to leave the house often as a child, he grew up being completely dependent on his mother with no other friends to speak of. She spoiled him rotten and was pretty much the scariest mama bear imaginable--because if you did anything to her precious baby she'd use her magic to make you pay without a thought. His mother was all he had, but she was also always there for him to rely on. Heading out into town on his own to go to school and start learning to be independent of her...he really didn't know what to do with himself. He'd always been taken care of. Protected. Rather than truly improving on how needy he is, Finn just transferred some of it onto another person: Harv, his new "best friend." Finn's far too nervous and cautious to really strike it out on his own like he'd like to, so for now trying to seek independence just means finding someone new to rely on.

Finn's number one priority in basically any situation is his own safety. He's one of the last people you'd expect to risk his life for the sake of someone else, because he's a horrible coward. With danger(or horses) nearby, Finn feels no shame in running or hiding behind people for protection--in fact, any person's #1 use to him is as a meatshield. Usually this is directed at Harv, who more or less acts as Finn's personal bodyguard while being referred to as his "best friend." While Finn does care about Harv's safety and doesn't want anything to happen to him(although it took awhile for that to be due to actually liking Harv and not just because Harv can't save him all the time if he's hurt), that's pretty much always a secondary concern when his own safety is in jeopardy. While he certainly doesn't enjoy getting into dangerous situations, he's not embarrassed in the slightest about being Harv's damsel in distress all the time--he's just glad he managed to rope Harv into being his personal hero. Finn's safety is such a huge concern to him that as proud as he often acts, he doesn't hesitate to throw all of that away to literally cry and beg for his life when it's in danger.

Finn is pretty in love with himself. This comes from taking every nice thing his mother has ever told him far too seriously. Like any proud mom she tells him he's beautiful and perfect in every way, and why on earth would his mother lie to him? He's obviously a great person that everyone wants to be around, despite the fact that he logically should be shunned by society--he's the son of a disowned noble, an illegitimate child, his mother is a witch and half of the town believes him to be the son Satan, and his appearance sticks out(his extremely light blond hair and purple eyes are how inheriting his mother's albinism manifested). Few people really like him, but his head's been incredibly inflated by his mother's praise and she uses her magic to intimidate everyone into treating them with respect. It took the entire town showing up to watch him get burned at the stake for him to realize that maybe, just maybe, not everyone loved him as much as he thought. It's an extrtemely disturbing realization to him, but he continues on with his life acting as haughty as any proud noble. His preoccupation with his appearance and hygiene also come from his mother's constant praise, because she's always telling him he's a beautiful young boy, so that's exactly what he has to be to live up to her expectations.

Of course, if Finn's perfect, then that means that everyone around him(besides his mother) is a lesser being. He looks down on others, especially peasants, and chalks up them not having the same priorities as him as a sign of their inferiority. Finn sticks out like a sore thumb among his classmates, most of which are big and strong and fit perfectly into male gender roles and interested in showing that off. Finn, on the other hand, doesn't fit very well into society's expectations of what an ideal man is. He'd rather go shopping or play music than get into a fistfight. He's also small and weak and completely and utterly disinterested in his Warrioring classes. But preferring playing the harp to swinging a sword around doesn't make him weird, in his mind, it makes him better than them. They're all stupid barbarians and brutes, who can never hope to be as great as he is. Finn does, however, decide that anyone he takes a liking to is automatically a great person despite anything he sees as one of their shortcomings, because Finn is a great person so obviously those he chooses to associate with must also be great people. Just not as great as he is.

Despite all of his anxiety, Finn can be a surprisingly positive person. He has to be, actually, because otherwise? He'd still be completely housebound. Using his huge ego and a forced positive attitude was the only way he was able to work through his issues enough to be out and about as often as he is today. He also prefers to have an oddly romantic view of the world despite it never really working out for him; he values the kinds of things he reads about in stories in theory, but usually is less than impressed with them in real life. He likes to keep the world a degree of mysterious, so he's not exactly fond of things like science and magic. They're very useful and he's glad they exist, but they're not for him to understand--understanding takes the magic out of things and makes them mundane. Magic is only magical if he can think of it as some mystical force beyond his comprehension.

With Finn's upbringing in mind, how socially inept he can be is hardly surprising. He doesn't really, for example, know how to be friends with someone. As far as he's concerned, he can inform someone that they're going to be his best friend and then that's it, it's done! They're best friends for life--because friendship is forever. He doesn't have to be nice to you or anything, he can just decide you're his friend and you're supposed to be nice to him. He doesn't understand the concept of other people's personal space(but woe to you if you invade his), because most of his interaction with others has been with his mother. She's very physically affectionate with him and in a parent-child relationship it's much more acceptable to invade each other's personal space all the time than it is with your classmates. But Finn really doesn't get that distinction; and he never seems to pick up on how uncomfortable he makes people by touching them all the time. He'll also open criticize anything he doesn't approve of, usually without even thinking of the consequences. Tact is a foreign concept to this kid; if he doesn't like your shoes or thinks you smell bad, he'll say so. Loudly. It doesn't matter if you're his worst enemy or his supposed "best friend."

Unsurprisingly, Finn's morals can be pretty questionable. Being raised by an evil witch that throws princesses off of towers and all, it's not like he was ever discouraged from being that way. When he's not doing well in class his first plan to rectify this is to break into the school and change his grades. He doesn't see anything wrong with the way he often uses people, calculating how having them around could affect his survival and safety. He, at first, doesn't even seem to have much of a problem at all with the notion of killing those that cross him--not that he'd do it himself. And at most? He usually finds his mother's cruel treatment of other people embarrassing. Her throwing a fit and treating other people like crap will only earn a sigh and a "Mother! Why must you make such a scene...?"

Of course, with all the time Finn's spent "trying to become more independent" lately, he has grown as a person...to an extent. His friendship with Harv has become much more genuine(although he's still very much okay with using him for protection), with Finn actually feeling bad about putting Harv's safety in danger by suggesting he visit Hevvin's house and the aftermath of that leaving the two of them exchanging gifts and acting much more like actual friends. Finn also learned from his experience with Darren during the tournament and when Darren later kidnapped him Finn actually tried to stop his mother from harming him when not long ago he'd've been begging her to kill him. Still, even taking all of this progress into consideration? Finn's probably not someone you want to be friends with.

History:
Set in vaguely Medieval and not terribly historically accurate England, Warrior U chronicles the misadventures of its wimpy protagonist, Finn. Born the illegitimate son of a disowned noble turned evil witch in the fictional town of Cailburry, Finn grew up on the outskirts of town, rarely leaving his house because of his agoraphobia. This as well as a fear of horses was caused by an incident where he was mauled by a unicorn in his mother's rose garden when he was very young. He really didn't socialize with other children growing up(minus bugging the assorted children at the palace when his mother dragged him along to parties there, but he's not really friends with any of them), and grew up with his mom as his only friend. Showing no interest in any of the magic she tried to teach him as he spent the majority of his days cooped up in the house, he instead learned to play the harp and turned to things like music and books for entertainment.

As ridiculously close to his mother as Finn was, as many teenagers do he started to feel a need to seek independence from her as he grew older. Forcing himself to work through his anxiety enough to be able to leave the house more and more often, at fourteen years of age he decided to enroll himself in a local school so he could one day become a bard. Unfortunately for him, before he could take any classes related to his major, he had to pass Warrioring 101. Finn had no skill for or interest in that kind of thing, and immediately decided to seek out the help of the best student in the class. Having been very dependent on another person for most of his life, Finn wasn't very good at functioning on his own anyway, so finding someone to force his needy self onto was the only way to make himself feel secure as he tried to ween himself off of needing his mother all the time--Finn didn't seem to realize that just forcing himself to be dependent on someone else wasn't actually progress.

Finn chose a farmboy named Harv to be his new "best friend," giving Harv no say in the matter at all. While Harv wasn't exactly fond of him at first, he couldn't help but feel obligated to protect Finn from danger due to what Finn called his "Bad Case of Hero," and soon found himself roped into being Finn's near-constant companion. While originally their "friendship" consisted of nothing more than Finn using Harv and Harv being enough of a pushover to put up with it, they slowly started to grow to genuinely care for one another and enjoy each other's company.

Eventually Finn told Harv about the unicorn, who had returned and was stalking him, looking for chances to attempt to run him through with his horn. Finding these attempts were not yielding any results, the unicorn shapeshifted into the form of a teenaged boy(albiet one with white skin, pink hair and eyes, and a horn on his head) to "befriend" Finn and get a chance to kill him. An attempt to take advantage of Finn getting mad at Harv so he could steal Finn away from his protector and kill him didn't go so well for the unicorn, however, because Harv ended up following them around the entire time out of concern. It didn't take Harv too long to realize that Finn's "new friend" was actually the unicorn, and he of course immediately warned Finn and thwarted the unicorn's plans. If Finn had a better attention span perhaps this would have taught him a lesson about friendship, but hey, he at least ended up learning the unicorn's name: Hevvin Angel-Bright.

After this incident Finn and Harv went on to have various relatively insignificant misadventures(Finn declaring himself the new teacher and convincing everyone to skip school with him and go to the beach, for example), often including having to thwart Hevvin's many murder attempts. At one point Hevvin ended up dragging Finn back to his house, where Finn found that he lived in a hollowed out tree decorated with the skulls of his various victims, unicorns and humans alike. Finn managed to escape while Harv was attempting to negotiate with him, but to Finn's dismay he found Harv to be rather reluctant to hurt the psychotic creature. As far as Harv was concerned, Hevvin was just a dumb animal that didn't know any better, and due to loving animals Harv didn't want to kill him.

Eventually Finn's mother brought him with her to crash a party at the palace like they often do, and it didn't take Finn long to start exchanging insults with a squire named Darren. While Darren made fun of Finn's lack of physical prowess, Finn targeted Darren's father, who had been turned into a frog by Finn's mother. Darren was very close to his father and carried him around everywhere(to make sure no one stepped on him and because his father was still supposed to be his knightly mentor), so quickly lost his temper and nearly attacked Finn. Remembering that Finn's overprotective mother was in the area was the only thing that stopped him from doing so, but Darren didn't intend to just let it go. Instead, he started plotting to take down Finn's mother once and for all, which conveniently enough also meant targeting Finn as Darren considered him her only weakness.

The next day at school their teacher announced that the princess was holding a tournament and was challenging their class to compete against the palace's kids. Darren had mentioned that Finn wouldn't last a second at a tournament during his trip to the palace, so he knew that this couldn't be a coincidence. While Finn immediately began to dread this, Harv excitedly took initiative in planning for it. Unfortunately for them, they needed a horse for jousting and most of kids in their class were too poor to afford one. With Harv unable to use his family's plowhorse and Finn telling them not to bother asking him for help with that because of his fear of horses, Harv decided to try and make Hevvin act as their horse. After all, he still believed that there was no way that a unicorn was actually evil. To draw Hevvin out, the class tied a very unhappy Finn to a tree to use him as bait, and sure enough the unicorn appeared to take another stab at killing Finn. Shapeshifting into his human form to ask Harv why Finn was "floating"(he's not exactly bright) allowed Harv to discuss the tournament with him, and Hevvin agreed to help them as long as they let him wear a feather on his head. It could also be the perfect opportunity to finally kill Finn, after all...

Unfortunately for Finn, his mother couldn't show up to assist him with her magic due to having to meet with some other witches, so Finn was stuck cowering behind his classmates instead, waiting for Darren to strike. Despite them actually managing to get a "horse" to ride, jousting ended up going to horribly because Hevvin ran off to attack Finn halfway through. Archery didn't go so well either; while Finn miraculously managed to hit the target, he was up against the princess who was well known for being a good shot with her beloved crossbow. Harv, however, tried to remain optimistic, claiming they could catch up to the other team in the melee. Hevvin takes this opportunity to imply that he's going to use the melee to try and make another attempt on Finn's life, and Finn was not really keen on the idea of actually fighting for himself for once so as soon as the melee started he snuck off the field and into a nearby tent to play his harp.

Finn wasn't the only one abandoning the battle, however, and found himself joined in his tent by none other than Darren. Brandishing a real sword(not allowed in the tournament), Darren announced that he was going to kill Finn for revenge on his mother. As Finn began to cry and beg for his life, Darren offered him a sword to fight back with, and at that Finn finally screamed for Harv to come save him at the top of his lungs. Abandoning his battle with one Darren's friends, Harv entered the tent to see what was going on and Finn immediately hid behind him and climbed onto his back for protection. Calling a timeout, Finn explained the situation to his classmates(with an obvious bias), but Harv's promise to protect him from Darren wasn't enough for Finn. He wanted to him to kill him or at least put ants in his pants or something, because Darren was a threat and he needed to be taken care of. Harv, however, refused to do anything but fight honorably, so Finn angrily stormed off to find someone who would play dirty.

Apparently Finn was scared enough of Darren to team up with his worst enemy, because it was Hevvin that Finn turned to out of sheer desperation. Finn managed to convince Hevvin to help after bringing up the fact that Hevvin would be unable to kill him himself if Darren did it, and even claimed he'd let Hevvin kill him if he helped him take care of Darren(this of course, was a big fat lie). Harv ended up getting into a fight with Darren to protect Finn from him, and Finn used this to his advantage to sneak around. Getting a sack with...something...in it from Hevvin, Finn returned to his classmates to find Darren had defeated Harv. After all, Harv may have been a good fighter, but Darren was a squire.

As Darren moved towards Finn to make another attempt on his life, Finn revealed what he'd gotten Hevvin to fetch for him, pulling Darren's father(in frog form, of course) out of the sack and threatening to step on him if Darren got any closer. While he hardly wanted Darren to kill Finn, Harv was understandably disappointed with Finn's behavior. Finn immediately got defensive, bringing up the fact that he didn't have a father and complaining about all the murder attempts he'd had to deal with lately. An angry Darren informed him that this wasn't about him, but his mother's tyranny.

Lucky for Finn, his mother finally showed up to help him--although she wasn't in good shape due to the witches she'd met with poisoning her. She offered to kill Darren, but surprisingly enough Finn told her not to(to please Harv), instead taking her home to take care of her. Unfortunately, Finn leaving meant his class was disqualified from the tournament, so none of his classmates were particularly pleased with him.

Eventually, the king took notice of the disappearances caused by Hevvin's murders. The team of monster hunters immediately went to Finn's house, believing his mother to be responsible, and trapped her in a strange contraption. However, a man(actually Hevvin in his human form, wearing a cloak to hide his horn) approached them shortly after claiming to know who the true culprit was. Leading them to Warrior University, he claimed Finn was responsible, pulling his shirt off and showing them the hole in his chest. Obviously that made Finn a zombie, so he must be the killer. Attempting to prove his innocence, Finn removed Hevvin's cloak and revealed him as a unicorn...but that only made the monster hunters more inclined to trust him, as Finn was pretty much the only person in the universe that mistrusted unicorns by default. Believing a pure being such as a unicorn couldn't possibly be lying, they imprisoned Finn and threw a party in Hevvin's honor.

Once Harv found out, he went to visit Finn in jail, where Finn instructed him to go find his mother. However, when Harv got there, she was still stuck in the trap the monster hunters used on her. Busy with her escape attempt, she reluctantly entrusted Harv with the task of rescuing her son. With no idea of where to even begin, Harv returned to Finn, and the two argued briefly over Harv's trust towards Hevvin. Having seen all the skulls in Hevvin's house before, Finn suggested Harv follow Hevvin home and see for himself. Harv did so out of curiosity, and fainted from shock when he saw all the trophies of Hevvin's murders. Unfortunately for him, he woke up with Hevvin hovering over him, and quickly found himself restrained so Hevvin could kill him. Conveniently, one of the monster hunters showed up at Hevvin's door before he could, having come to fetch him for Finn's execution. Leaving Harv tied up in his house for later, Hevvin headed back to town to finish Finn off once and for all.

Hevvin arrived to where Finn was being held and, as Finn was being tied to a stake to be burned, bragged about what he'd done to Harv(implying he'd already killed him). To make things extra fun for himself, Hevvin stuffed a bag of gunpowder down Finn's shirt. The entire town had gathered to watch Hevvin execute Finn, but demanded a speech before he lit the fire, which stalled things long enough for Harv to escape and make his way back to town. Harv interfered at the last minute, knocking the torch out of Hevvin's hand and releasing Finn. The two of them ran for it, as Hevvin quickly regained the torch and pursued them.

Running into an alley and hiding behind a few crates, Harv apologized for never believing Finn about how evil Hevvin was and Finn apologized for sending Harv to Hevvin's house. While the two had believed themselves to be safe because Hevvin passed them by, they realized all too late that Hevvin was actually setting fire to exits(thus...also trapping himself, but Hevvin's hardly the brightest creature out there). Luckily for them, even in his human form Hevvin isn't really all that good at climbing, so they climbed up the side of one of the buildings. A frustrated Hevvin began shouting threats up at Finn("You can run, but I'll never stop hunting you! Your skull will decorate my house!" kind of deal), who stood frozen in place on the roof as Harv urged him to get moving. After a few long seconds of just standing there, though, Finn remembered the bag of gunpowder. Digging it out of his shirt, he told Hevvin to shut up and threw it into the fire near where Hevvin was standing. While the unicorn had supposedly been killed by the explosion the gunpowder caused, the fires were put out due to some convenient cartoon physics. With the entire ordeal officially over, Finn gave Harv a kiss on the cheek and thanked him for his help, then eagerly dragged him off to see his mother. Having only just escaped from her confinement when they arrived at Finn's house, she gave Harv a kiss on the cheek out of gratitude as well. Finn, of course, was still preoccupied with celebrating the unicorn's "death"...unfortunately for him, unicorns are magical and Hevvin wasn't going to die that easily.

As happy as the end of that particular incident left Finn, the trauma from almost being burned at the stake caused him to have a bit of a relapse into his agoraphobia. While he kept telling himself that it was finally safe to wander about without an escort, he found himself unable to get very far out his front door before he got too scared to bear it any longer and ran back inside. Unfortunately this led to Finn missing some class, but eventually he got sick enough of it to employ a favorite among cartoons--a giant slingshot, so he had no choice but to leave his house. Firing himself out of it, he found himself all the way at Harv's farm, and unfortunately landed right on top of a cake Harv's mom had baked for him.

Some time later, Finn decided he was going to have a slumber party. He figured it would be a convenient way to get out of going to a party at the palace with his mother--now that Darren's animosity towards him had turned violent, Finn was scared of going there rather than thrilled by it. Asking Harv to come over unfortunately didn't work out for him, however, because Harv was frankly too scared of Finn's mother to agree to spending the night at his house...and Finn had kind of said that his life was more important than Harv's in his sleepover proposal, so Harv wasn't exactly happy with him at the moment.

As Finn found himself dragged to the castle because he couldn't convince Harv to sleepover, Darren was unsurprisingly plotting again. He kidnapped Finn, hoping to bargain with his mother so she would stop terrorizing everyone...or at least turn Darren's father back into a human being again. Finn's mom agreed to the latter, but unfortunately didn't remember the spell offhand and had to run home and look for it. Due to her study being incredibly cluttered, Finn concluded that he'd be stuck with Darren all night...and was pretty okay with this, when it dawned on him that that was suspiciously similar to a slumber party when you took out the part where Darren was a threat to his safety.

But all of Finn's party attempts failed horribly as Darren refused to participate, and eventually his mother showed up to claim him. Although she couldn't find the spell, she did cast an illusion to intimdate Finn's captors before running off to think of another plan. Finn, determined to enjoy his "slumber party," decided to pull out his harp and start playing for Shiel and Darren.

This was a mistake.

Darren, already irritated, couldn't take Finn's behavior any longer and slapped the harp out of his hands. Unfortunately this broke Finn's precious harp--leaving Darren to feel guilty and Finn to mope over the loss of his favorite instrument.

But Finn's moping didn't last too long. Finn soon turned his attention back to Darren, suggesting they tell scary stories. Telling a "story" that basically amounted to his situation with Darren, he finished it by cursing Darren with misfortune. A horrified Darren accidentally knocked something off of his wall, and was knocked unconscious when it hit him on the head. Seeing this, Shiel fainted, leaving Finn to escape--and conveniently, his mother had just finished scaling the wall and was hovering outside Darren's window to take Finn home. A frustrated Finn left with her.

Finn is later seen doing a school project with Harv, completely clueless to his mother's staff being stolen and passed around the kingdom. It eventually finds its way back to Finn's house and Finn scolds Harv for having it.

Eventually Harv's brother Rhodri, who believed Finn was a girl, came and asked Finn's mother for "her" hand in marriage. Finding that absolutely hilarious and seeing an opportunity to get something out it, Leenan stuck Finn in a dress and told Rhodri he could if he brought her back a phoenix feather. Unfortunately for Finn, Rhodri actually managed, so in frustration he ripped the dress off to prove his gender to Rhodri. Rhodri, however...was more distracted by the giant hole in Finn's chest, and left in terror of the "zombie" before him.

Canon Abilities or Powers:
While all humans in this universe are capable of magic if they decide to learn it(it's a skill you have to acquire, not a natural gift), he's not very interested in it and generally refuses to learn anything about it. He tends to claim that he doesn't even know how to use it, but apparently this is a lie, according to the comic's creator, and he does know some spells. Unfortunately we don't know what he actually knows how to do and the mechanics of magic in this series are pretty vague, but because he's very against the idea of using magic it probably won't come up.

On a related note, Finn is only able to live because of his mother's magic. Without her rearranging his interal organs and such, he would've died when he was mauled by a unicorn as a child. Since she couldn't fix him completely or anything, he was left with a giant hole in his chest.

Tobio Kageyama | Haikyuu!! | reserved

[personal profile] youdidwell 2013-12-08 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
Personality: Despite first appearing to be arrogant and mean, Kageyama is really just an awkward boy who wants a place to fit in. He is incredibly blunt and can be easily riled up and these things are what makes others think he is harsh but he’s more than that. He’s earnest and hardworking but mostly, he’s just dumb.

Since middle school, he’s had a reputation of being a really scary person and yes, he does have a temper and he does tend to overreact but he’s a good kid, he just doesn’t know how to act around others. He’s quick to yell and criticize and that leads others to seeing that he’s arrogant and controlling. This even earns him the nickname “King of the Court” when during his second and third years of middle school. Even though it sounds like an impressive nickname, Kageyama hates it because it actually means an oppressive king who only knows how to control others and that is not what he wants to be.

Volleyball is a team sport and no one person can fight alone. Yet Kageyama forgets this and fighting alone is exactly what he does in middle school. He pushes himself hard to be the best and holds the expectations that others will do the same. When they do not act in a way that he find satisfactory, he lashes out at them. Then, instead of talking properly, he decides that he needs to solve problems on his own. Eventually fed up with how selfish he acts, the rest of the team abandons him and secludes him in games. In his final match in middle school, no one is there to hit his tosses.

This action hurts and confuses him because Kageyama before that moment doesn’t not know what he’s doing makes others upset but on seeing the result, he does come to regret his actions because despite all his harsh words and criticisms, Kageyama doesn’t want to hurt anyone. His guilt becomes apparent when he meets his old teammates later on as opponents in high school. With regret, he notes that he’s never seen them smile earnestly while playing until then.

His guilt also affects him in a different way. When he enters high school, he seems determined to do things differently, to leave behind the tyrant king that he was and become a just one. There are many instances where the mention of his actions in middle school are the catalysts for him to change his way of thinking. For example, in chapter 81, Hinata expresses that he wants to stop closing his eyes when he hits spikes. Up until then, their partnership works well because Hinata is passive and only jumps while Kageyama is the one that gives him tosses that are so accurate, he can hit them without looking. At first, Kageyama refuses vehemently because what they had been doing until now worked and therefore it should not be changed but a couple chapters later, it’s another character comments that the way Kageyama acts is just like what he had done in middle school (controlling others into doing exactly what he wanted) and so instead of continuing to stop Hinata, he begins to trains as well so both of them can evolve into better players.

This not only shows his willingness to change but also shows that he continually wants to improve (even if he acts grumpy about it). He is always looking for ways to make himself better at volleyball, from asking senior players to help him or looking for a good coach to train him. While he might not have a good grasp on his attitude and how he treats others, Kageyama is completely aware of his abilities when it comes to volleyball. He’s confident in his skills but despite others saying he is arrogant, he is actually quite humble. Even if he’s called a prodigy, he doesn’t look down on others. For example, he is respectful to Sugawara, Karasuno’s other setter and even admits that he can’t compare to the other boy because he has experience he doesn’t have even if he supposedly has more skill. Another thing that Sugawara has that Kageyama admires is his easy going personality and the way the rest of the team completely trusts him.

Another person that Kageyama admires is Ooikawa, his senior and the previous setter of his middle school. Even when Ooikawa is mean to him or makes fun of him, Kageyama isn’t afraid to ask him for help, both in middle school and again in high school. Ooikawa to him is at once both a rival and an idol. Kageyama even describes him as amazing, a word he uses for no one else, because he seems to think that in order for him to become the best setter, the person he needs to beat is Ooikawa.

Perhaps the person that is able to inspire the most change in Kageyama is Hinata. At first, the two of them do not get along and they constantly argue. Hinata is full of passion and energy but he lacks any real skill when it comes to volleyball so this is a big annoyance to Kageyama, especially since Hinata likes to talk big and he declares that he wants to beat Kageyama. Despite all that the two of them work incredibly well as a set. Their individual skill sets are allow each other to play with their fullest potential. Slowly, they become friends and Hinata is probably the first person to ever have complete trust in Kageyama. Of course they still argue and Kageyama doesn’t hold back on the insults whenever Hinata does something wrong but he does value Hinata as a teammate just like Hinata values him.

At first, Kageyama thinks that he needs to solve all problems by himself but slowly, with the help of the rest of the Karasuno team, he is learning that there are five other people on court as well as countless others off it who are willing to help him. His change in perspective happens frighteningly fast and even his former teammates are surprised by it. They never realized he had this potential and it’s merely the lack of proper communication between them and Kageyama that led to him becoming the tyrant king that he was in middle school. Karasuno is able to look past his grumpy expressions and harsh words to see who he really is and their patience is what allows Kageyama to slowly be the setter that he’s always wanted to be because all he needs is someone to explain to him slowly when he does something wrong, even if he might seem unreasonable at first.

History: When he was in second grade, he started playing volleyball competitively. Even though it’s rare to start at an age that young, Kageyama was surprisingly good and his natural skill led him to continue playing all the way through elementary. In middle school, he attended Kitagawa Daiichi, a school known for its proficient volleyball team.

There, he met Tooru Ooikawa, a third year and setter for Kitagawa’s team. Through a combination of his own skill set and admiration of the older boy, Kageyama began playing as a setter as well. Though just a first year, he even played as a replacement for Ooikawa in a practice match.

After Ooikawa graduated, Kageyama took over the position of starting setter but unlike the former, who was trusted and admired by the rest of the team, Kageyama was slowly alienated from the others. He was too forceful and driven and this in turn made his teammates resentful of him. That was when he received the nickname “King of the Court.” While it might seem like a title of respect but it was the opposite.

Kageyama was known as a tyrant king because his teammates saw his tosses as self-centered. His skills were higher in comparison to the others and he held expectations that the others could match him but in truth, none of them could. Instead of properly communicating with each other, Kageyama continued pushing while his teammates continued to pull further away until they ignored him in games completely.

The nickname King followed him to high school, where he attended Karasuno. His new teammates knew of his reputation but instead of being afraid of him, they saw him as an asset. This is mostly in part because of another first year, Shouyou Hinata. While the two of them seem to not get along, they work frighteningly well as a team. So well, in fact, that they overwhelm Aobajousai, a team full of Kageyama’s former teammates, during a practice match.

Karasuno was a team that was strong in the past but has since lost its strength and so it was known as “Flightless Crows” and “Fallen Champions”. Despite that, the members are not weak and with the addition of Kageyama and Hinata, they began causing quite a stir in the high school volleyball scene. Most think that their power came from Kageyama, who was known as a prodigy of volleyball, but that made them unprepared for the rest of the team.

During the interhigh championship, Karasuno was able to surprise several schools with their strength before being stopped in the third round by Aobajousai. Still, they were able to make a name for themselves and show others that they were not to be taken lightly.

As for Kageyama, being part of Karasuno was able to change him. They taught him how important communication was and that he should rely on his team as well as allow them to rely on him in turn. With their encouragement, he was able to stop being a tyrant king. Even during the interhigh, he showed growth, doing team things that he had never done before like high fives after scoring.

After the interhigh, Karasuno traveled to Tokyo to attend a training camp with its rival school Nekoma in order to improve before the next tournament. Unfortunately, Kageyama failed his literature midterm that was held before the camp and his supplementary lessons were held during the time the team was supposed to travel to Tokyo so instead he (and Hinata, who failed English and needed supplementary lessons as well) had to travel to Tokyo later on in the day.

Canon Abilities or Powers: Kageyama excels at volleyball and is even known as a prodigy for it. Most of this is a result of his good sense. He is able to quickly assess situations and just as quickly come up with the most efficient action to counter. Kageyama also possesses extreme control over the volleyball which makes him an excellent setter. This makes him outshine those who are at the same level as he is and makes him able to play on par with those who are older and more experience. His mind is definitely his best asset and it makes up for his lack of polished skill because while he is good at volleyball, the thing he is best at is being a setter. His ability as a setter is so high that he is able to toss balls accurately to the spiker even when the spiker’s eyes are closed. He is also incredibly adept at memorization-- he was able to memorize all of the hand signs for various tosses the same day they were taught to him.

All in all, Kageyama has good athletic abilities and a good head on his shoulders that makes him ideal for what he does. Off the court, however, he’s the opposite. His school work is passable but he’s terrible at academic subjects such as math and anything language related.

Fairy Tale Role: The Queen of Hearts (Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland)
Fairy Tale Powers or Abilities: He will gain no special abilities other than being able to instill fear in the poor townspeople and being able to order people to have their heads chopped off (who will then get dragged off but won’t actually be beheaded).

Personal Items: school bag (contains Karasuno Volleyball uniform, contemporary literature textbook and two riceballs)

First Person Sample: [The writing that appears is slightly sloppy but still legible. Kageyama doesn’t have time to worry over neat writing after all since he’s a busy guy.]

Apparently I can talk to other people using this book?? That’s what it says but I don’t get any of this or anything else in this dumb place. Whatever. If theres a chance of my questions getting answered [as he writes this, he snorts in disbelief a little.] then I’ll try. Especially since everyone else I’ve met in this place hasn’t been helpful at all.

So, does anyone know how to get to Tokyo from here?

Third Person Sample:Kageyama was in a bad mood. He was lost, hungry and confused. The last thing he remembered was falling asleep on the way to Tokyo and then suddenly he was waking up in the middle of the street somewhere with strange people crowding around him with his stomach grumbling.

Okay, maybe that was a lie. Sure, there was a crowd but they all kept their distance from him, staring at him with wide eyes. He didn’t know what their deal was but it definitely made him feel a little irritated. For some reason, this was reminding him of certain incidents in the past that he’d rather not remember.

“Oi, what’s going on here?”

A couple of them even flinched a bit but his question did stir them into muttering frantically amongst each other before they all decided to speak at once. He could barely make out anything but he did manage to catch the words “fairy tale,” “Queen,” and “book.”

“Urgh, I don’t get this,” Kageyama lifted a hand and rubbed the back of his head in annoyance. One thing he did know was that the longer he stayed here the more everything got on his nerves. His hunger definitely wasn’t helping either. “The lot of you, just shut up.”

It was amazing how quickly they all stopped talking except he didn’t really pay attention. Instead, he was looking around himself to try and better assess his situation. The place definitely didn’t look like anywhere he’d been before. Behind him, he spotted his bag. He reached over and grabbed it before he stood up. He didn’t have time for this shit. He needed to get to Tokyo for the training camp. Obviously grumpy, he swung his bag over one shoulder and shoved his hands in his pockets before looking around himself again with narrowed eyes. He needed to find someone to ask questions that didn’t look like they were afraid he was going to swallow them whole and he needed to do it fast since he’d missed enough of the camp as it is.

IC
Name: Paul Bunyan
Fable: The Story of Paul Bunyan
Age: 22
Appearance:
At 63 axe handles tall, or roughly 95 feet, Paul is a giant among men and trees. His hands are calloused and rough from always having an axe or a saw in in his hand since he was younger than one. His eyes are soft a soft brown, the hair on his head is a deep black, and his beard is so thick you could be lost for days in it if he left it unchecked. Even when he shaves, within the next five minutes he has a five o'clock shadow that lasts through the day. His wardrobe consists of nothing but red flannel shirts, denim pants, suspenders, and hobnailed boots. Truth be told, Paul would wear nothing else.

Personality:
Born a giant, Paul Bunyan naturally stands out in a crowd. With his boon companion, Babe the blue ox, by his side, you should have no trouble picking him out of a crowd. A giant, among well, giants, Paul Bunyan was not a trailblazer but an earth-carver. The very smallest of his actions are left on the very ground he and Babe travelled. As a three-week old baby, Bunyan caused a 75-foot tidal wave just from rocking in his sleep, he created the Grand Canyon by just letting his axe drag in the dirt. Paul Bunyan is no mere man, he is nigh a force of nature.
Above all, what the man appreciates the most is unapologetic brawn, and the honest hard work it signifies. To apply for his logging company, a man had to be able to eat 20 flapjacks, 3 pounds of grits, five pounds of scrambled eggs, five feet of sausages, 35 slices of bacon, and a gallon and a half of milk. That same man had to pop three buttons off his shirt when he inhales and grow a full bushy beard five minutes after shaving with the dull butter knife. This is the bare minimum of what Paul does every morning himself, though in all honesty his breakfast is 50 flapjacks and 65 slices of bacon, and he prefers his eggs sunny-side up.
That said, Paul’s not just some lunk head with an axe. While, all he’s ever known is his tremendous strength, he has learned to control it because if he doesn’t natural disasters will occur. It’s why he became a logger, so that he could put his gargantuan strength to good use. So, when he finds somebody that his at his level of strength, he feels like he has found another person he can call friend, and perhaps even brother. It also helps that whoever, or whatever becomes part of his camp suddenly grows to become unnaturally strong and large, such as Babe and Babe’s wife, Bessie.
When faced with with a troublesome task or a rather ornery part of nature, Bunyan prefers to solve it with his own muscle, but only after thinking about it carefully. Before he tamed the Whistlin’ River, the most dangerous and mischievous river that any logger ever had to send a log down, Paul sat around for three to four days pondering over what he should do to fix the problem. In another instance, after he and Babe had straightened out a particularly crooked road, Paul Bunyan used the leftover trail to make himself a new road into uncharted forested area.

History:
Carried to town by five storks, a baby boy was dropped off on the doorstep of Mr. and Mrs Bunyan in Bangor, Maine February 12, 1834. The couple, a woodsman and his doting housewife, was elated to find that they had been blessed with a child, though they had no idea what they were in for. Before a week had passed, Paul was already bigger than his father, and he was still growing. After a month the only suitable bed for Paul was bed was a barge the parents sent out to sea every night so the ocean could rock him to sleep. Usually he slept soundly, until one night he a storm splashed a freezing sheet of briny ocean water on baby Bunyan’s face. The resulting fit caused a tidal wave to roll across the shores of Great Britain. Ships were sent to calm the raging giant-ling, but a total of four ships were destroyed by Paul’s flailing.
As a result, Mr. and Mrs. Bunyan came to the conclusion, with a little help from the good people of Bangor, to leave for the west, where there would be more room for their growing baby boy. Finally finding a home in Bemidji, Minnesota, the Bunyan’s created a settlement on the outskirts of town. It was there in that small town in the middle of the woods that Paul got his first inkling to his calling in life. After a long day of work, Mr. Bunyan left his double bit axe resting on a stump. Bunyan, about three years old at this point and the size of a young oak tree, picked up his daddy’s axe and started to play with it. As he swung his father’s axe, tree after tree began to fall down. At the sound of the blows Paul made, people thought thunderstorm was fast approaching their small town. Mrs. Bunyan went to go bring her baby boy from the yard, only to find the Bemidji was now in the middle of a valley near a mountain of chopped trees now stood, the top of which sat little baby Paul, his father’s axe tickling the sun.
Paul grew to be a fine young boy, though he found his gifted growth to exclude him from certain boyhood rights. He never did attend school normally. He tried, oh yes he did, but he was too big to fit in the tiny schoolhouse, and the teacher had a heart attack just about every time he pulled the roof of the building to hand in his homework, so his parents were asked that he not attend anymore. He also never was able to play with the boys. The one time he tried, he sent one of the boys flying into the wild blue yonder. That boy wasn’t seen again until next week, where he landed safely in a big pile of sawdust near the Bunyan household. While nothing was ever said to his face, parent’s and children started whispering behind his back since that day. Paul couldn’t help but hear the way they talked about him, his ears could be confused for caves after all. So one day, at the ripe age of 16, he left, leaving behind a note that could be seen from ten miles away to his parents, with nothing but the clothes on his back and the axe he got for his 14th birthday.
The rest is history. Paul traveled the woods and fell in love with the American north and all of her rolling hills and sights. Deciding to stay where wood was, Paul searched for other burly men to join his logging outfit, and before he knew it, Paul found himself managing his own logging company. The only thing he lacked was a boon companion, and that he found in the Blue Winter. One winter, it wa so cold it turned the whole forest blue with frost. undeterred by the cold, Paul went to do his job, when he heard something huffing and puffing in the snow. When Paul looked closer, he saw bull calf dyed baby blue by the cold trying to muscle it’s way through the thick snow. His heart warmed by the tremendous gumption shown by this little bull, Paul scooped him up the calf and put him in his warm shirt pocket and carried him back to camp. The next day, the calf, still blue, was two times the size he was the day before, by the end of the week, you could lay 21 axe handles across its brow. Paul named the bull Babe, due to the baby blue tint of its fur, and soon he and Babe became the best of friends.

Canon abilities and powers:
Paul is strong, break the rules of science strong. He has made mountains, dug lakes, and accidentally carved the Grand Canyon into the fresh face of western America. Not only that, but those that settle in his camp have a way of growing. That goes for all living things, and works regardless of species or age.

First Person Sample:

[A rough, rolling scrawl appears on the page, a heavy hand the author of the words that are almost engraved onto the page.]

The seasons are changing once again, and you know what that means. That’s right, it’s time for my logging company to uproot itself and find a new place for business for the oncoming winter that is marching over the horizon. With a new location, we are looking for new hands to come along and join us here in the forest. We could always use an extra cook or two around the camp to help feed all the hungry mouths around camp. If you think yourself strong, and aren’t afraid of things that go bump in the night, pick up an axe and join us as we fell trees by the dozen out here. Comes with room and board, and you are payed a piece of silver for every 150 lbs of lumber, you will be payed 25 silver.
Job interviews are being held at the The Frog Prince by me and my head cook, Sourdough Sam.

See you there,
Paul Bunyan

Third Person Sample:

One morning as Paul and Babe were walking through Märchenstraße’s shopping district, bringing fresh cut wood to the carpenters in town. Careful as to not step on anybody, he also checked the list Sourdough Sam had wrote for him. It was his turn to shop at the market place for his camps provisions. Paul didn’t like going into town to much. It wasn’t the people he minded, he actually liked most of the people he met. What he didn’t like were the buildings. They were all so small, and easy to break, one careless gesture, one misstep, and a tavern’s roof is caved in or there is a crater in the road where his foot has been. Babe, ever the faithful companion since Paul saved him that blue chilly day, followed a step behind Paul. While Paul was always watched where he stepped, Babe placed his hooves wherever he pleased. The way he saw it, he was a giant blue ox, and if you weren’t dumb enough to get out of the way, whatever happened to you was your fault.
As Paul walked, he heard a stone cracking and wood breaking, he turned around, mumbling dejectedly, “Please, please don’t be Babe.”
Babe’s tail had swung, much like a wrecking ball, into the wall of an unsuspecting creature’s bathroom. The owner of the house is scared to the bone dwarf in the middle of washing himself. Paul pinched bridge of his nose, some of these dwarves could be a real hassle when they see him.
“I’m mighty sorry for the shock my ox gave ya, even more so for what his tail has done to your house,” Paul apologized, taking his hat off and kneeling so he was on the same level as the dwarf. Best to just do this now, get it done clean and quick, “Babe, say you’re sorry.”
Babe gave Paul the most confused look, he hadn’t though he had done anything wrong. Paul could tell just by looking that Babe wasn’t going to talk. For the whole time Paul has known Babe, the ox has never spoken a word to Paul. Paul smiled apologetically at the dwarf, whose shock was slowly being boiled away by anger. Before the dwarf could say anything, Paul dropped small bag of silver and blurted, “Hope ya get that wall fixed, have a nice day, bye!”

Do you play anyone in Myth Making?: Nope!

IC
Name: Iceland
Canon: Axis Powers Hetalia
Canon Point: January 2014
Age: 1,139. Looks 16 - 17.

Personality:
Iceland is true to his name in the sense that he does appear rather frosty to most people. 'Being approachable' is not his strong suit, as he won't hesitate to call someone stupid or an idiot if he doesn't agree with their line of logic, and he has no problem being straightforward to push through a conversation. However, part of this is brought on by the fact that he's rather shy and grew up in an isolated environment, so he doesn't actually know how to act appropriately in social situations. He doesn't want to be rude or unlikable, and even if he can be blunt, he has enough self awareness to be polite when he needs to be. Most people are kept at arm's length, regardless of what Iceland is speaking about or how he goes about it, as he's prone to embarrassment and keeping a safe distance from others means less chance of embarrassment. He doesn't know how to deal with his feelings, much less those of others, so it's less awkward if he doesn't get involved. In fact, Iceland is pretty conflicted about being social: he'll attend events and parties, but not engage with anyone and be a wallflower. This way, he can convince himself that he's Cool and Normal, despite the fact he won't partake in the festivities. The reason he bothers being around people at all, even if he doesn't interact with them, is because he doesn't like being lonely or being left out.

Deeper down, Iceland is much warmer than the cold barrier he projects. He wants to be accepted, normal, and cool, but his contradictory nature makes it difficult. He's been a little brother his whole life - first to Norway, and then Denmark, and in the modern age, the aforementioned two plus Sweden and Finland all treat him like a little brother. That combined with Iceland's independent attitude and stubbornness results in general moodiness when he's coddled too much or, alternately, told what to do. He's used to being looked down on due to being younger than the other four in his familial group, which runs counter to how he wants to see himself: as a capable adult. Unfortunately, the harder he tries to convince himself and everyone else (read: the other Nordics) that he's totally mature and grown up, he tends to act more childishly. Temper tantrums are the worst offender, as he can throw an impressive hissy fit and stomp out on someone over something petty like Norway asking him - albeit repeatedly - to call him 'big brother' like when Iceland was little. This was even after it was proven that they were blood-related and not just assumed to be related. Iceland simply doesn't take orders well, no matter how small or insignificant they are.

The softer, more personable traits Iceland has are the ones people don't typically see, as he tries to hide them to protect himself. Because in all actuality, Iceland is very sensitive! And he knows people can take advantage of that or at least look down on him. He's already rather self deprecating about his age and how he looks. Cool people are obviously not awkward and insecure, which again is why Iceland doesn't want to let people in on how he really feels. Given that he already struggles with his own feelings, it's not hard to see why he doesn't want to deal with anyone else's on top of that, thus looping us back to why Iceland is lonely but doesn't want to be, and why he has his chilly facade. So while the 'cold' and 'warm' aspects can be looked at separately and they contradict each other, they all feed into another to make one sheltered, unsure teenager who just wants to fit in but doesn't know how to. He falls on the far ends of the spectrum - too harsh and unapproachable, or too shaky and delicate. He can take charge when he needs to, but would rather wait for things and people to come to him. He's judgmental and thinks that everything makes sense in his own world, pushing people away who don't fit his idea of what normality is. Of course, how could he know what normal is if he keeps to himself all the time? No wonder he's so lonely.

History: As Hetalia is a "comedy history" manga, Iceland's backstory is, in fact, based off Icelandic history. Outlined here in Wikipedia and tvtropes. The character wiki is here.

Canon Abilities or Powers:
It was once implied that Iceland had 'weird friends' like his brother Norway, whose friends are supernatural creatures. This has not been brought up again in canon, but it should be noted as Iceland has been pointed out to seem ethereal or otherworldly, and have his house (the actual country of Iceland) be compared to a land of fantasy, so it's not a stretch to say that he could commune with supernatural creatures. Then again, the jury's out on whether or not he actually can.

As far as nationhood goes, he's practically immortal. He ages incredibly slowly, can't be killed like a conventional human, and it takes a lot more to seriously injure him. His health is tied to the Icelandic economy, with recessions and the like being akin to having a cold. Iceland may be a bit more fragile for a nation, as being slumped over the computer playing an mmorpg made his hand and back hurt.

And for some odd reason, his eyes change color between blue and purple.

Fairy Tale Role: The little goat from "Three Billy Goats Gruff"
Fairy Tale Powers or Abilities: The power to be a normal goat. Being able to balance well on rocks and cross bridges with ease! Since there's no magic associated with the story, and "being a goat" isn't obvious just by being able to walk across some wooden planks, Iceland will also take on a slightly altered appearance fitting of his new role: small horns, ears, and a tail, that would be found on a young billy goat.

Personal Items: Five of his favorite sweaters. Seriously, he loves his sweaters.

First Person Sample:
[ The letters are narrow, occasionally squished together or connected by a quill stroke that shouldn't be there, it's clear that Iceland is trying to get the words on paper as quickly as he can. ]

This is unfair! How come I have to be some stupid goat? Everyone else gets to be a hero or something cool...
Whatever, can I walk across a bridge and go home then? Or be turned to something else? There's not much of a story for me. Did I get forgotten until the last minute so I got this dumb role? I want to be Gunnar Hámundarson or even any other person instead.

This is stupid! I bet there aren't even trolls here.

[ Later, as an addendum: ]

WHY DO I HAVE HAVE A TAIL?!!

IC
Name:Cynthia
Canon: Pokemon (game)
Canon Point: Post XY
Age: 23

Personality:
Cynthia is first and foremost, a lady. She is poised, she is well mannered, she is polite, and she makes sure to keep herself clean and all costs. She is a pacifist, refusing to get into fights and doesn't really enjoy battling unless it involves teaching other trainers or saving someone from danger. She takes pride in the fact that she’s the first female champion since she proved to others that girls are just as strong as boys and because of this, no one should even dare to call her out on her gender.

She takes her job very seriously and makes it a point to keep track and take care of anything and everything going on in her region. Everything from curing that group of psyducks so that they’d stop blocking the path to route 210 to entering another dimension to make sure Giratina won't end up destroying Sinnoh and probably the world. Sadly the only downside to her job, as amazing as it is, is all the paperwork she has to deal with. Of course as the champion, everything has to go through her before it gets approved, and to her, it’s just a big pain.

She loves the travelling. Cynthia finds it impossible to stay in one place. But this is due to her hobby of searching and studying the different myths and legends of the different regions. Which is why she’d usually turn up at random places like caves or ruins and would just endlessly stare at cave drawings or random stones like they were the most interesting things in the world. Probably another notable thing about her is her massive sweet tooth. If one were to ask her to pick her poison, she would definitely tell you she’s want ice cream. But really she’s good with anything sweet. This is because sweets are her form of anti-stress. After all, stressed is only desserts spelled backwards.

Moving on to a more detailed look at her likes and dislikes. She has high regard for her friends, her family and even her elites. She knows she would be nothing without them and so she makes it a point to protect those people at whatever the cost. Of course, as a trainer, she loves her pokemon. They were with her through thick and thin and she will forever be grateful for that. Which is also why she gets really irritated when people refer to them as pets. “Partners, not pets. There’s a difference.”
Cynthia also enjoys sweets, fashion, going to the beach during summer, taking care of pokemon, dealing with children, history, mythology and being a champion and an inspiration to others. Really to put it all in a nutshell, Cynthia loves being her. She’s quite happy with her life now and it’d take a lot to push her off the little pedestal of bliss that she was currently sitting on.

As for things she’s not particularly fond of, that includes things that threaten her home region, her friends and family, pokemon and historical treasures. Sometimes her work does join this list, but only when it piles up on her. And, of course, Team Galactic. It’s not really much of a list, but then, it would take a lot to make her dislike something.

She’s not really picky when it comes to talking to people. Honestly, Cynthia would talk to anyone given that they weren’t trying to harm her in any way, shape or form. She’d just prefer people with good manners, good grooming and sometimes, she’d rather just be surrounded by people her age. After all, her job involves inspiring children and of course it’d mean having to deal with a lot of them on a daily basis. So it’s not really weird that given a choice, she’d rather stay with people her age rather than little kids (no offense to anyone reading this).

Lastly, she has been exposed to more legendaries than a normal person should and so she has this tendency to talk on and on about her different experiences while travelling as if they were war stories coming from a veteran. But other than that, she’s just a regular pokemon league champion.

History: c/o Bulbapedia

Canon Abilities or Powers: Well as a pokemon champion and as a field researcher, Cynthia is very good with wilderness survival, first aid and wilderness activities such as cave diving and mountain climbing. She is also well educated in the fields of pokemon world history, geography and especially mythology. Lastly, she can play the piano (something I tossed in since her prebattle music is a beautiful piano solo)

Fairy Tale Role: The princess in the chest
Fairy Tale Powers or Abilities:
Let me list them here so I could explain them better.

*Turning into a demon at night – In the story, every night between midnight and 1am, the princess would come out of the coffin. But she was more of a hideous being that would howl and scream for the sentry stationed to watch over her coffin. The story doesn’t specifically say what she does to them but it is implied that she eats them. So for the sake of plot development, let’s just say she’s a danger to others between 12mn and 1am when she’s in that state.

*Split personality – When she is not in her demonic form, she is still sometimes able to communicate with the beastly version of herself. Usually when she’s asleep or when she sees her reflection does it come out to haunt her.

*Ability to see the dead- There is a part of the story that mentions that because the poor smith entered the coffin with the princess. Their souls were both bound by a wedding by the dead. Now I’d like to think that the princess’ coffin had a link to the land of the dead and so being in it for so long, she had gained the ability to see and talk to the dead.

*Immense Claustrophobia –Cynthia isn’t actually claustrophobic in canon. But I added it in because it makes sense. Being a princess that was stuffed in a box for a year.

*A fear and love of graveyard, churches and coffins- When the princess died she was stuffed in a box and kept inside a church. So Cynthia in her regular form would, of course, be terrified of that because history might repeat itself. But in retrospect, because she was dead in a box in a church for so long. Being in or near one of the three would actually strengthen her demon form. So naturally her other self would LOVE being near those places.

*Demon’s weaknesses- Now I only have two options for that. First was that the princess was born because her mother ate a special and very specific flower bud from a hairy bush. So if she keeps a bud with her, it keeps the demon sealed away. Second is being near her soul bound husband, Christian. Whoever he may be at the time.

Personal Items:
*Garchomp
* Her travel bag filled with the basic trainer necessities (potions, heals, a change of clothes, some food, survival gear, her wallet. But would probably last her a week or two though)
*Her research notebook and a pen

First Person Sample:
There is a demon here with me. I don’t know what it is or what it wants. But I implore you all to keep watch. I was told that every night she shrieks about war and pestilence. About a sentry her father never placed to keep watch over her. I’ve never personally seen here but there are far too many witnesses.

I’m scared. It’s getting dark so I must keep hidden.

To whoever reads this, my name is Cynthia. I’m currently locked in a chapel east of the forest. I haven’t seen nor heard from the demon yet. I sent my dragon outside to keep an eye out for it. But please send help.

Third Person Sample:
She wakes up screaming and in cold sweat once again. Lately Cynthia has been plagued by these nightmares of death, demons and being sealed away in a box. Upon arrival to this land, she found a book that told her she was part of a fairytale. But that was impossible. She wasn’t a princess who died and was sealed in a box. She was the first female champion of the Pokémon league. She came from a family of researchers from Celestic Town in Sinnoh. SHE HAS A DRAGON!

That book was a lie and those nightmares were probably nothing more than bad berries.

The champion rises from her makeshift bed and walks over to the nearby stream. She wasn’t at all scared of sleeping in a cold, dark forest since she knew her garchomp would always be there to protect her. But as she kneels over with cupped hands to pick up some water to splash on her face. There she was…

Hello Princess…I have missed you…
“No…No you can’t be real!”
Oh but I am... As real as day... I am you after all...

She shrieks. Startling garchomp and the birds roosting on the nearby trees. The champion may or may not have woken up a nearby town with her scream but as soon as she sees the demon in the water, she runs. Runs to the exit of the forest and into a nearby town. Garchomp trailing behind her with her things in tow. Cynthia didn’t know what to do, who else to turn to. So, with tears streaming down her face, she races to the first person she sees and clings to them for dear life.

“Please! Please you have to help me! There’s a demon in the woods and she’s out to get me!”

Do you play anyone in Myth Making?:
Nope

IC
Name: Hayner
Canon: Kingdom Hearts
Canon Point: Day Six in Kingdom Hearts II
Age: 15

Personality:
A courteous first impression isn’t really Hayner’s forte. He tends to be guarded, rude, and private, especially if he feels like someone is barging in his space. Hayner has issues with people watching him practice as well. Kairi has been the only person he wasn’t rude to upon first meeting, but that’s likely because she fell unconscious out of a portal that materialized out of nothing. The quickest way to warm him up is athletically awesome. During Roxas’ organization days, he was a bother to Hayner until he did well with a ball and a struggle bat.

Once someone becomes his friend, he is loyal for life. His way of being affectionate is by teasing or even being physical; he pushes, nudges, slings an arm over, punches lightly, and even noogies his friends. He likes competing, especially while bored. He tends to push Pence and Olette to race against him to get ice cream.

Hayner is an impatient ball of energy that hates to stand around in one place far too long. He has been shown to fidget, shift from foot to foot and just move when he is forced to remain still. He tends to come up with ideas pretty quick and needs to be reeled in often by a voice of reason. Hayner is known as the local attitude problem thanks to the lack of brain to mouth filter. He’s very quick to temper, but just as quickly to forgive and forget.

Hayner some times doesn’t think his actions through. He can be impulsive and rash. His friends are usually pulled along for the ride or have to distract him with a new focus. During Roxas’ summer vacation in the digital Twilight Town, it took Roxas offering of finding who is actually behind the thefts to get Hayner off the task of hunting down Seifer. He is described as having an attitude problem and doesn’t deal well with bossy people.

Keeping promises and making memories are very important to Hayner. He knows people can’t be around forever, likely from experience, and wants to enjoy every moment that he has with his friends. "Well, I doubt we can be together forever. But isn't that what growing up is all about? What's important isn't how often we see each other, but how often we think about each other. Right?" He also feels like homework is a waste of time, but will go along with it for his friends and if it’s fun. He makes trips to the store into races. Promises seem to be important by how upset he got over Roxas forgetting. He does forgive pretty quickly.

Hayner takes things as they come and is quite resourceful in a pinch. He is more aware of what's happening than what people give him credit for. "Maybe you forgot I'm smart!" He likes to drag his friends along with his whims, like the races for ice cream or getting even with Seifer. He is quite the troublemaker and loves to play pranks.

Seifer gets his own spot. According to Jiminy the Cricket's journal entry, there is bad blood between the pair of boys. Most likely it is thanks to both of them holding foolish pride in their skills. Seifer seems bent on insulting or getting a rise from Hayner, and succeeds every time. When the scarred bully beat Hayner's Grandstander record, Hayner was on edge and moody. Hayner loses his cool when it comes to Seifer, but he will also go to Seifer if he needs help. Their relationship at best is rivals or frienemies. Hayner has respect and does strive to beat Seifer, especially when it comes to Struggle(whacking one another with padded bats to get the most balls). He even allows Seifer to monologue and waits, although impatiently shifting from foot to foot, until the other is finished talking.

His emotions are very easy to read just from his expressions. Hayner's stance, arm movement, and eyes are an open book on how he feels. He loves playing Struggle and Grandstander. Hayner also enjoys games that involve running. Often during Days, Roxas observed them, Hayner and his friends, racing around.

History:
A wiki link

Note: I glossed over some parts, other wise we would be here for a few more paragraphs of things. I tried to keep it short as I could, while keeping Hayner’s parts.

Hayner and his friends are basically part of the reason that Roxas learned about friendship.

Roxas: Why did those last two seem to enjoy getting pushed around like that? They were even making those "ha ha" noises.

Axel: You mean laughter? Sometimes people with hearts do that even when it doesn't make any sense.

Roxas: Oh... Then I guess they're different from us.

Axel: C'mon, let's get some ice cream.

Roxas: Why?

Axel: Whaddaya mean, why? Because we're friends.

Roxas: So...friends are people who have ice cream together?

Axel: Sort of... That, or laugh at stupid stuff that doesn't make any sense. Like those kids we just saw--they were friends. C'mon, I'll show you how it works.

Throughout the Days game, Hayner’s gang is shown goofing off and hanging out with each other. They would race through the streets of Twilight Town and Roxas found his attention drawn to them. Sometimes when Roxas was eavesdropping on them they would give hints to where he should investigate to continue on the storyline.

It wasn’t until Roxas’ day off that he actually got to interact with Hayner. He was wandering Twilight Town trying to figure out what to do with his first vacation day ever when he stumbled across the group in the sandlot. Hayner was on edge over Seifer beating his record and he treated Roxas as a nuisance. It wasn’t until Roxas showed he was skilled in the Grandstander act, which is basically solo volleyball with a bat, that Hayner was cool with him.

The last he sees of them during his Organization XIII days, is on his last day. They were just racing away as usual, with Pence lagging behind and Hayner deciding the loser buys ice cream.

Roxas: I guess...not all friendships fall apart.

After the end of Days, Roxas’ summer vacation begins. Riku and Diz tossed him inside a virtual copy of Twilight Town, and his memories were altered. In this world, Roxas was a normal kid, not a Nobody(someone without the “emotion” version of a heart), and he grew up with Hayner’s group. He was Seifer’s rival with Hayner, and they did everything together. This was all done in order to restore Sora’s memories, which were screwed up thanks to a crazy trip to a Castle.

Things went crazy when a thief stole both the town’s photos , and the actual word photos. Thanks to Seifer, everyone thought Hayner’s group were responsible. The actual culprit turned out to be Dusks, that look like stretched out noodle creatures without spines.

The second day of their summer vacation was doing odd jobs to buy a train ticket. They also made a promise to participate in the Struggle tournament and split the prize between all of them if they win.

Hayner: Just two days to go. You and I have to make the finals! That way, no matter who wins, the four of us split the prize!

At the end of it, a mysterious hooded figure that only Roxas could see stole all of their munny (currency in Kingdom Hearts that looks like two-toned beach balls). Diz was a lazy butt and didn’t want to make a copy of Twilight Town’s beach.

The third day was supposed to be the Beach trip again. Hayner had managed to get the money on his own and left a message for everyone to meet at the train station. Olette and Pence went to go shopping first and then things got weird. Time seemed to stop, and Namine, the reason Sora lost his memories in a previous game, appeared before Roxas. He followed her to the mansion until he was attacked by Dusks. He fled and wound up running into Seifer’s group in the sandlot. Time stopped again and he beat them all with a keyblade. When he woke up, Seifer’s group was standing before him and Hayner’s group came onto the scene. Hayner thought Roxas ditched them to hang out with Seifer. Roxas forgot about the promise to fight in the Struggle Tournament and tried to make plans for them to go to the beach then.

Roxas: ...Sorry. Hey...how 'bout we go tomorrow? We could get those pretzels and...

Hayner: I promised I'd be somewhere.

Hayner was mad and left their usual spot early.

The fourth day was tournament day. Hayner seemed to still be mad about the previous day, but it turns out he was already over it. He was likely too busy focusing on the tournament and pre-Struggle jitters to realize Roxas was worried about it. After they made up, they Struggle.

Roxas: I had a lot of fun fighting you.

(Hayner smiles, then stops and crosses his arms)

Hayner: Yeah, well I didn't, wise guy.

Roxas: Hey, let's find a way to cheer you up.

Hayner: Nah, that's all right.

There was another time pause in the middle of the round between Vivi and Roxas. Axel and DiZ appeared and they were telling Roxas not to listen to the other about who he was. Not wanting to hear it or to understand, he clung on to his Twilight Town friends and time started again. He finishes up the Struggle tournament, and Hayner winds up in third thanks to Seifer withdrawing. They split up the prize and enjoy an ice cream at the end of the day, but then Roxas fell off the clock tower.

On the fifth day, Roxas wakes up in bed as usual. When he asked his friends if he fell off, but it seems like it might have been a dream. He was missing his piece of the Struggle Trophy, which he was painfully reminded of later on the train. They all decided, much to Hayner’s reluctance, to do their summer homework. Their essay was on the seven wonders of Twilight Town. Hayner split off with Olette to investigate it their own way, while Roxas went with Pence. Roxas found a lot of weird things that only he managed to see. The sixth wonder was the Ghost Train, and while waiting they were bothered by Seifer.
The train pulls up to the station, and Roxas went to board it, but was stopped by Hayner. The train wasn’t really there, and if he had tried to board it he would have fallen on the track moments before an actual train pull in. Hayner is moody and shoves Roxas on to the real train without talking about what is even going on. Hayner refused to scope out the last wonder, which turned out to be the Mansion. Roxas went off to investigate anyways. More weird things happen to Roxas, involving a chat with Namine about who he really is, and Pence snaps him back to reality. Turns out they, Hayner’s group, were all planning on checking out the mansion on the last day of vacation out of concern for Roxas. Hayner had even asked Seifer for help. Something seems wrong with Roxas and they thought it could be connected with the Mansion.

They all meet up for ice cream and things carry on normal. They mention that the next day will be the search to find out what is going on with Roxas, and then the last day is a festival. It turns out that Roxas’ summer vacation ends much earlier than expected…

On the sixth day, Hayner and his friends pass right through Roxas as if he wasn’t even there. At this point it isn’t clear as to why that happened. It could be that thanks to Roxas’ heart connecting to Kairi on accident when he fell off the tower, that a leak over between the fake and real Twilight Town was happening, and that Roxas was seeing the real Twilight Town instead.

Roxas eventually remembers the truth and angrily returns to Sora.

It’s weird. Very weird to write in a book and not deliver it anywhere. Does it really work?

[A beat.]

Don’t answer that really. This is just crazy. It’s like some lame kind of shared diary.

[There is something scribbled out here.]

Just point to me where I can get some ice cream in this place.

Do you play anyone in Myth Making?: Nope

IC
Name: Jonathan
Canon: Shin Megami Tensei IV
Canon Point: After his death.
Age: 18

Personality: Jonathan is polite. That’s the first noticeable thing about him. He says it’s because of his good upbringing, and that it’s nothing, only what’s expected, right? Incredibly nice, incredibly kind- bland, unspecific words that form the first layer. After a while of knowing him, he’s also a bit too nice. He’s that one guy in class who reminds the teacher when they forget to collect homework, and whenever anyone gives him a glare in the face for it, he very clearly and adamantly declares “Hiding truths for your own benefit is morally wrong.” He could easily be dismissed as a teacher’s pet, or society’s lapdog, bowing down to the higher authorities and giving every politically correct answer.

Well, to a certain extent, that could be true. Jonathan is the game’s Law Hero- long story short, the Law Hero is peaceful. They are caring, and serve under God’s will. They do what must be done to bring justice and believe in order, plucking out the seeds of rebellion and live to aid others. That is Jonathan in a nutshell.

For the most part, Jonathan’s biggest desire is for everyone to just be happy and get along. For that reason he’s almost poisonous to conflict, though he does realize that sometimes it has to happen- he just makes sure that any of the pettier ones stop. He tries to be the peacekeeper, picking out his own words carefully. Any rudeness or harsh comments that roll off him are few and far between, though, and he always apologizes profusely if they slip off his tongue. There is no room for mishap, no room for a mean insult that could hurt someone. He thinks before he says anything, and as such, he doesn’t talk as much as others would.

He tries to do what’s right, instead of what’s easy. Though, his definition of ‘right’ might be a bit skewed. He cannot accept the notion of the strong towering over and oppressing the weak; he believes everyone is born equal, and should be treated thus so. He likes to believe that sometimes, people simply just don’t show their ‘good’ as much as their ‘bad’. Jonathan does not believe he has the right to hold anyone’s life within his hands, but he will still do it, if they are only getting what they deserve. If anyone backstabs him, or (God forbid) his friends, he will hunt them down. Though, it will come with his own emotional turmoil, should he ever face down a stranger who’s done nothing wrong to him or a former (or current) friend with his sword.

However, while he’s nice, he’s not very… smart. Jonathan was manipulated by the angels in the game. Walter (the character of opposing alignment and views to Jonathan) can see just how terrible the angels are, and genuinely believes that while Chaos Route is dangerous and the circumstances surrounding it scare him, it’s a better option than to rollover and allow himself to be used by the angels for a world they want and is decides to follow the demons. The demons could not tempt Jonathan because he was blind to the flaws of the angels, which is what the demons used partly to bring Walter away.

He grew up believing that the angels of legend helped to bring peace to the land, and appreciates the peaceful life he has had so far, most likely because he had many fairy-stories of war and of Mikado’s founding he could refer to. So, when the angels presented themselves Jonathan immediately associated them as completely good. He says, if you follow him to kill Lilith, ‘do not be so swayed by the concept of reform that you are blind to reality’. But unfortunately, if there’s anyone who’s blind, it’s most likely him- because it really is apparent that there are a million things so terribly wrong with both Mikado and Tokyo, but Jonathan vehemently denies it and sticks with what he has always known, focusing on the great things about Mikado and the bad things about Tokyo, despite the fact that the angels haven’t really done anything to prove themselves as ‘good’ other than the biased tales of their country (which they should know are biased due to the inaccurate portrayals of the Tokyo people in them).

Jonathan is someone who wants something to hold onto and believe in- that happens to be the Archangels and Mikado. And if anyone threatens it, he lashes out against them and refuses to listen to their words, however selfish or close-minded it might seem. That’s also why he treats everyone so kindly whenever he can. Because he needs something to believe in himself, he tries to make himself something others can believe in so they don’t aimlessly wander the Earth or feel weak. He believes that humans need to think of others and be mindful of how they’d affect them, or else they are little more than demons.

In conclusion, he is kind and gentle because of his own insecurities and need to believe in something. But at the same time, while he believes in peace, coexistence and community, he tends to be very close-minded towards anything that could shake the foundation of what he believes in and thus tends to be a stickler for rules. He can hardly accept those with more individually-focused ideals and care not for other people, though he can be selfish himself towards preserving his own knowledge and sticking to tradition.

History: The link to the wiki!

Canon Abilities or Powers: He has control over ice and wind magic back in his world (Bufudyne and Zandyne), that came with working with demons. Which is poof and gone, though he’ll be trying to use them again whenever he forgets.

His sword work is also not to be sniffed at, since he’s been practicing such under his father for most of his life before being thrown into the work of a Samurai. It’s all for killing demons, though, so he will only use it sparingly. He’s also got the power to summon demons to fight for him before he got here- though now he’s only got one demon, Yomotsu-Shikome, with the attack Stun Needles. It doesn’t do much though… in fact, it’s… probably here for the fairytale…

Fairy Tale Role: Hansel (Hansel & Gretel)
Fairy Tale Powers or Abilities: Hansel doesn’t have any special abilities rather than a strong faith that he and Gretel could get out alive, and the empathy to comfort Gretel no matter what dire situation they were thrown in. Both of it fits Jonathan already, so there’s not much of a change. However, with Hansel's role comes a rekindled hope for life and to survive now, rather than dwell in the world he left behind.

Personal Items:
-His sword
-His Gauntlet (complete with the snarky AI inside and one summonable demon, Yomotsu-Shikome, which… acts far too much like the witch in the fairytale for his liking)
-A fluffy yellow scarf
-His samurai sword and jacket

First Person Sample:
[It’s a strange kind of magic, sure, but by now he’s basically gotten used to whatever scenario he gets thrown in. Unfortunately.]

Good day. [There’s an awkward pause before the next words.] My name is Jonathan. I’ve arrived in this place rather suddenly, and I’m not quite sure what I’m supposed to do.

[The presses against the paper gets a bit softer.] I don’t want to bother anyone, but if it’s not too troublesome… has anyone heard of anyone called a Samurai? Or the Eastern Kingdom of Mikado? Has anyone heard of the archangels. I assume this… isn’t Heaven?

I’m sorry for being so forward, but any help could be appreciated, even if the answer is null. [Another pause.] Oh, one last thing- has anyone else arrived here… post-mortem?

Third Person Sample:
Well this is awkward.

The fairy-stories of old is no longer too much of fantasy, Jonathan already knows that- the demons are definitely real. But right now, the human fables and heroes from times of old, stashed away in his library- it’s a bit of a shock to take in, even now. And… well, he is dead. He didn’t know what to expect from death. But it’s certainly not this.

The first time he saw an elf, he doubled back a bit before realizing that they weren’t quite as malicious as the ones before. These were the kind ones, from the nicer fairy-stories- everything seems like a… nice fairy-story. For children to dream about when they’re about to drift off to sleep.

(He still cringes when he sees Pixies, though. Like really. Don’t mess with Pixies.)

The natives are friendly. Much more so than the cheating and suffering occupants of Tokyo, or the snotty behavior of the Luxurors in Mikado. It’s a nice and pretty welcome change, though…

“Excuse my impertinence, but… why are you called me Hansel?”

They didn’t really have a good answer for that. Jonathan’s pretty sure they’ve got the wrong person at this point, especially since he’s done nothing of sorts to deserve just a warm welcome, but they turn vague. He’s read such a fairy-story before, Hansel and Gretel, was it…? But as much as he’s been through, there’s no memory of him eating a candy house.

Amongst the confusion, he decides to stow away in a much more quiet alleyway just for a moment, to see if his Gauntlet still worked. (…It did.)

“Hello, Master Jonathan,” Burroughs rang out. “I am still present, though my functions are… limited.”

That- didn't sound good. “Oh, it’s alright, Burroughs. What can you still do?”

“I can summon one demon.” Which means he’s probably going to have to use his sword against any dangers. But, one demon is better than nothing, right? Especially when his ice and wind magic seems to be unworkable.

“Which demon is it?”

“Yomotsu-Shikome.”

It seems that everything is tailored for the inhabitants to mistake him as Hansel, because the ensuing demon recited mindless phrases from the fairy-story before he summoned it back. He sighed, slumped against the wall- how… how are the people back in his world doing? Has Merkabah succeeded in… committing genocide? (Why did he agree to that?) Where even is Flynn and Isabeau…?

He winces and shakes away the notion, just deciding to work with what he has now. The weird book could be a good way to start…

Name: Xion
Canon: Kingdom Hearts
Canon Point: Day 356 - Mid-fight with Axel in front of the Old Mansion
Age: Nearly fifteen in appearance; 349 days in reality

Personality:
Pensive, reflective, yet pressing to be steadfast in what she thinks is right.

Xion first may come off as coy and socially awkward to those she just gets to know. Considering her rare interactions with those outside of the Organization though, it's hardly surprising. It's not to say she can't hold a conversation. She manages well enough with one-on-one interactions as demonstrated with Riku and later with Genie and Naminé. But holding a conversation outside of the Organization's goals often leads to a game of twenty questions and lots of awkward. Which turns into even more awkward when questions are thrown back at her. Xion's very secretive about her origins... Frankly, because she's fearful of anyone knowing about it. There's enough self-loathing for what she is but for others to know as well- It's not information she's willing to give at the drop of a hat and her discomfort shows; she'll do her best to quickly dodge and change the subject. If there's anything she has learned later on down the line while talking with Axel and Roxas, it's how to hide things- for better or worse. Although, considering her origins, it doesn't take much to realize she has an incredibly bad poker face.

Her general demeanor around new people is calm yet cautious. Curious yet withdrawn. Xion's a thinker, a reflector. Someone who steps lightly and chooses words carefully under quiet circumstances. Often uncertain and second-guessing internally while she may put on a front of vague knowing. Like Roxas, she's very curious and wants answers but she's less inclined to trust people or perhaps has a better grasp of who to trust. Quite possibly a trait from her association with the memories of Kairi rather than Sora himself. She's overall soft spoken and unsure of a lot of things, which makes her appear weak and easily manipulated.

But despite this initial attitude, Xion is surprisingly fiercely independent. This perhaps is complimented by those whose memories she shares. Both Sora and Kairi have their stubborn tendencies, after all. And a strong willingness to handle things on their own... which she's really more than capable of, even in tight situations for long periods of time as demonstrated when she went missing for three weeks because she had lost the ability to use the keyblade. Roxas no doubt influences her as well. It's not that she doesn't trust her friends. She just doesn't wish to burden them, especially with all the insecurities that she has.

Throughout most of her lifespan with The Organization, Xion was constantly putting the pieces together as to the reason why she existed in the first place. What was she, even? These were answers that The Organization itself never gave her, so she had to seek them out through her own means. This mainly stemmed from her meeting with Riku, but with Xion's personality, it was only really a matter of time otherwise. Or so it may be speculated at least. This was information she highly valued-- reasons and knowledge are important to her. So much that she'll leave her friends behind to seek them out herself.

That may lead people to believe that she doesn't trust her friends at all, but that's not the case. Xion puts a lot of faith in them. She just... puts a lot more in herself to be able to handle things. In a way, it makes her brash and perhaps unconsciously cynical-- 'No one can help me but myself', so to say. While relying on others isn't wrong, it makes her feel weak, useless. Disposable. And she hates that feeling. It also can be noted that the Organization members tended to be trained to work by themselves continuously, so that is perhaps another factor that assembled her habit of holding things back and dealing with matters by herself. It certainly didn't help when she was once called a mistake by her superior. And while she took it on with a brave face, she was obviously bothered by the matter. That doesn't mean she won't seek her friends out at all. She's been known to confront Axel on several occasions. It is perhaps simply due to what she was finding out about herself that she simply wasn't confronting her friends regarding the information-- especially since the further in she got, the meeker things seemed to be.

Even past this though, it's not like she never gives things good thought. As noted before, Xion's always thinking. Always. It's like she couldn't stop even if she wanted to. She's naturally very reflective. Exhaustively so, even. A lot of it stems from her origins, perhaps. Despite her travels, she's not very worldly when it comes to dealing with what might seem as common sense to them. It's like half hers was "lost" when in truth while she carries the memories from Sora and might then have subconsciously learned some things from him without even knowing, there are still many things she doesn't know about, only learning through her own experiences. Thus, for example, she might know what a database is yet she couldn't describe what a library is to you.

Her tendency to consider and reconsider things though, of course, leads into her melancholic nature. Despite the resolve she does her best to hold onto, Xion's quick to brood over things, even if they are out of her control. She comes off as someone with a lot of empathy-- ironic for what she is. Even if she might think she is trying to do her best and make the right choices, for as resolved as her front was, it doesn't take much for guilt to overwhelm her in confrontation with her friends. The people she cherishes always come before anything else in her mind. So, when she hurts them, it eats away at her indefinitely until she's certain that she's made it up to them. But, even then, it doesn't take much for her to shoulder the blame again if she's reminded. It's just how she is.

Past all her melancholy, Xion does carry a warm side to her. When she opens up to her friends, she more than welcomes, jokes, jeering, and gentle banter. This is where a lot of her borrowed traits from Kairi show. She'll laugh and tease and smile with her friends. This is something that perhaps may be muffled some around her best friends now due to circumstances, but it is a side of her that comes about when she's comfortable and happy. There's nothing that make her feel more at home than spending time eating ice cream up on the clock tower and watching the sunset with her friends. Because those times were when her friends were the happiest... and so was she.

Her friend's happiness- Rather, her friends in general, come before her always. And she will tend to them as best as she can in all the ways she can- even if later on it eventually means giving up her own existence. Xion later calls herself the real affront. The answers she found made her begin to lose what little self-worth she had in the first place, her poor treatment in the Organization further estranging her to the point that while she has great value in her friends, she grows to bear little to her self, admitting that she's 'nothing more than a puppet'- and it will be a difficult process for her to regain any of that worth. Her self-preservation draws heavily with her friends. 'They need me- and I need them, too.'

But that doesn't mean she won't react towards others if provoked. Like Sora, Xion does have a rash side to her, one that makes her dive into a situation without thinking first. It's a very contradicting side to her at times considering her lack of self-worth, but all the same, she won't just accept something without reason. Her first encounter with Riku can attest to it. While less likely to showcase it at least in front of Roxas and Axel, more prone to brooding in frustration, anything that involves having her friends hurt in some way whether physically or otherwise would definitely trigger this side of her. This can also tend to be her knee-jerk reaction when people hide things from her knowingly and purposefully-- Ironic, really.

Past all this though, Xion really is a warm, complex being. She may be replica, or "puppet" as some would call it, but she certainly doesn't seem like one. She smiles, laughs, broods, acts out, and everything in between. To just refer to her as one word would generalize her just as much as anyone else.

Do you play anyone in Myth Making?: No

IC
Name: Yuuya Sakazaki
Canon: Hatoful Boyfriend
Canon Point:
Age: 13, but birds age faster - he’s physically a young adult, mentally equivalent to 18.

Personality: At a glance, Yuuya is a confident carefree flirt, a ladies’ man (hen’s cock?), talkative, and a little absurd. He knows and is friendly with everyone. Absolutely everything that happens he seems to take in stride, with the same careless, gracious cheery ease. Just under the surface Yuuya's kind of dorky and a romantic.

Despite an obvious social nature he’s oddly aloof and opaque. It’s always hard to tell what he’s really thinking about serious things. Even if accused of a murder he had something to do with he seems relaxed, and there’s not much he seems to care strongly about. He’s really more of a very extroverted loner. Yuuya has many friends and is admired, but it’s almost all on the surface.

Not-so-secretly he’s more cold-blooded, cynical, and defiant than he seems - willing to get his feathers dirty, literally or otherwise. He does have some respect for authority, but it’s on his own terms. Yuuya will answer to others easily enough, though he feels it’s easier to beg forgiveness than ask permission sometimes, and in the end he really answers only to himself. He's also quite impulsive in the heat of the moment and likely to do things that turn out to be poor decisions.

When he isn’t coming off as cheerfully careless, he’s usually coming off as some degree or another of professional and competent. Sometimes the two attitudes are blended. If it’s called for he has a pretty good bedside manner too. Yuuya may happily show off his superspy skills if the situation calls for them, but won’t explain how he got them.

Yuuya withholds a lot of information if it doesn’t seem relevant at the moment, even if it would be better if he shared - impulsive, remember. He lies, deflects, and dissembles almost pathologically, hating to reveal that he's been lying, and he’s got layers. Deep down Yuuya’s unsure of himself and often indecisive, he is burdened by guilt, and despite outer appearances he does not like himself much. Sometimes, he’ll show that a little to someone he likes and trusts to some degree, speaking in a self-deriding or despairing way. He doesn’t want to worry people, though, and he tends to lie and dissemble as he catches himself. Insults and taunting don’t bring him down much, even if his past is brought up - someone remarks that he has a heart of used tires, indestructible.

Yuuya feels immense guilt and shame over what he did as a child, and knows he can’t change it, and he keeps quiet about it. Though he does often think he should tell Sakuya, that would mean revealing the lie. The least he can do is remember by himself, and carry that weight. It’s part of him. Maybe he doesn't like himself, but he's accepted what he's done and what it means about him. It drives him to try and be a better person, more forgiving, more concerned for people.

Despite the weight of his sins and failures, Yuuya can always continue on with a smile, and not even he knows how much of it is a bluff. He's become philosophical about things. Nobirdie can live without hurting anyone else. Nobirdie can ever be replaced. All he can do is endure everything, try to do what’s right, and keep going. It seems like he wouldn’t mind dying for a cause.

While he’s pretty fine with people not liking his little brother, Sakuya’s life and happiness mean everything to him. When he thinks Sakuya is really, pressingly threatened Yuuya loses his cool and becomes raw and desperate. Sakuya is also his weakness in that Yuuya can be blackmailed or otherwise made to do things he usually wouldn't if his brother's safety is brought up.

He’s quite slow to care about anyone else to that same degree, but he does care about people - he doesn’t lose his head, but he will similarly lunge to tackle people out of the way of attacks and think nothing at all of injuries received on the way. And he has some concern for emotional hurts too. He might think derisive thoughts, but he knows better than to speak them. When talking to Ryouta about Hiyoko and the changing nature of relationships, Yuuya was patient, fairly gentle, and even let go of one of his hard-kept personal secrets.

He will put himself at risk for others even besides his brother, if that doesn’t conflict with protecting Sakuya. He loves being like a good big brother to anyone. Yuuya bears few grudges and will bring his characteristic unflappability to bear when helping drowning swimmers who half crush him, or soothing hostages who try to strangle him. He is better than he thinks he is. He’s just not as good as he’d have anyone who’s seen him act heroic believe.

History: Hatoful Boyfriend takes place in a future where a disease devastated the human population. Birds became uplifted and took their place in society, though not without strife. There is continual conflict with the remains of humanity, and some bird factions wish to wipe them out.

Yuuya was born in Japan to a highly bred noblewoman and a leatherworker on society’s lowest rung. They’d eloped and were happy, but this state only lasted two years. His mother’s fiance, head of the powerful Le Bel family, caught up with them, had his father killed, and forced his mother to marry him and move to France. Le Bel would make sure young Yuuya was cared for, but only if the newly-laid egg containing Yuuya’s full brother was smashed.

His mother was distraught and Yuuya offered to smash the egg himself, but instead kept it, incubated it, waited until his mother laid a new egg with Le Bel, and covertly switched them. He smashed the new egg and saw his brother Sakuya raised up as the new Le Bel heir - as a snobbish aristocrat looking down on anyone with impure blood.

Yuuya wasn’t allowed to have much contact with him, and was sent to boarding schools and to live back in Japan. He also fell out of regular contact with his mother. Soon he wound up part of the Dove Party, a political faction that wanted to preserve the remaining humans and live in peace with them. In time he ended up as an agent in the espionage division, Heaven-Soaring Wings. They trained him, and he had particular aptitudes for using guns and hacking computers. He went out on some global missions and became well used to danger, frantic situations, and being injured.

At the appropriate age he enrolled in a prestigious high school, Saint Pigeonations’, to spy on the school’s doctor, a known agent for the anti-human Hawk Party who was suspected of experimenting on students. He was often absent on minor missions, and while he was popular he was close to no one. Yuuya volunteered in the infirmary and by his third year was trusted and capable enough to run the place when the doctor was out. He made friends with the school's single human student, and when he found that during his third and final year Sakuya would be transferred in he had the choice of leaving so familiar connections wouldn't interfere, or staying. He stayed just so he could be near his brother more, though Sakuya hated him.

By that third year he was also incautious enough that his snooping was found out. The doctor figured out that Sakuya wasn't a pure noble and blackmailed Yuuya into keeping quiet about his activities.

The Dove Party tasked Yuuya to stopping some thieves who he found were more dangerous than expected, weird hybrid creatures created by one of the doctor's deceased colleagues. The doctor took them in and seemed to mellow out a bit. In the succeeding months Yuuya helped stop a laser attack, confronted his brother's assassin butler, had the hybrid things act as his assistants in the infirmary, and messed up some plans in the criminal underworld.

Soon before graduation a number of staff and students went into a shared dream ruled over by a pain-averse ghost, who had become a kind of bizarre soul-absorbing horror. Yuuya used Inception-style tech to access the dream and helped the dreamers fight the ghost, who at one point offered to absorb Yuuya so he would feel no more guilt or pain. He refused. To help encourage a deeply troubled student who was considering the offer, Yuuya had a long talk with him, during which he revealed more of his personal philosophy and true nature than usual, including that some of his cheer was a bluff.

The ghost was defeated, Sakuya grudgingly admitted that Yuuya had helped, and by the time Yuuya graduated the doctor still hadn't been able to get past something that had shocked him to the core.

Canon Abilities or Powers: Yuuya’s an enormous uplifted white pigeon, around the size of an Andean Condor. Like standard pigeons he can fly strongly for hours and has inhuman senses. He’s got obscenely good color vision over a wide spectrum, so in good light he can see the pulse under human skin, the skin oil traces left when people touch things, and stars in the day. As with other birds he can also clearly see things that are too fast for the human eye to resolve well. The downside is that his night vision is very inferior. He can home in on places he’s been before and hear deeper sounds, like the wind in mountains and the sea on shores, letting him keep a kind of mental map.

As an uplifted bird his primary feathers are prehensile. They’re better at delicate manipulation than human fingers but don’t grasp heavy things as firmly, so he sometimes has to resort to feet and beak and would be unable to use bows or swords effectively. He’s able to speak with human voices, like a corvid or parrot. Since he’s big and heavily muscled, he can strike with his wings hard enough to fracture human bones.

Skillswise he’s got a good acquaintance with medicine particularly the emergency sort, is an excellent hacker, good with guns (made for birds), he has an outstanding pain tolerance, and he’s not bad at technology and improvising with it in general - he once rewired a lethal electric shock device to act as a defibrillator.

Yuuya carries Carneades, a virus which devastated his world’s bird populations and uplifted what it didn’t kill. He’s also unnaturally good at moving silently and being unobserved, despite being a big white bird.

Fairy Tale Role: The Princess (The White Dove, Danish version)
Fairy Tale Powers or Abilities: Yuuya’s usual form is a white dove. If someone were to kiss him he would transform into a human, and could choose to turn back at any point until maybe a day has passed, when he turns back involuntarily. He’s susceptible to being transformed into different things by others and can’t undo those on his own, but in any form being kissed will turn him human, and he can become a dove again from there.

As the Princess he can perform lengthy, laborious tasks at startling speed, whether they require deftness or force. He can detect enchantment on food or drink and determine what it would do, and can enchant inanimate objects to speak - not imbue them with personalities, but make them say a few phrases in response to questioning. Also, he can enchant a flowerpot to instantly become a forest or a glass of water to become a lake, if thrown down. He may be able to learn other talents, it looks like these are picked up somehow from the witch.

Finally he has a weird sort of breath weapon - a powerful wind with hundreds of summoned (normal) pigeons flying along in it. They attack whatever he wants and vanish with the wind when he stops blowing.

I’d like the human form to be his (noncanon) blue-haired moe anthropomorphization, and his bird form to be his usual uplifted dove form, much larger than most pigeons. He would keep his avian senses and grasping feathers, since they’re inherent to the shape, but lose the virus and his stealth talent.

Technically he’s kept by the witch, but the Princess was able to fly out in dove form and spy out the area, so he can pretty much leave at will. It’s just smuggling out a human that causes difficulties.

Personal Items: Ornamental glasses, a yellow-orange silk tie, and a strap-harness thing, barely visible under feathers, with pockets. The harness carries several other sets of glasses, one of which is techy and allows for colorless night vision, and his iPon, a kind of iPhone.

First Person Sample:
Seems a shame to make me a princess without specifying of what! Is there a country somewhere? I have to say if there’s an arranged marriage my imagined betrothed might be surprised! As would the people back home, I’m sure. Speaking of, not that there hasn’t been a warm welcome, but isn’t this all a bit abrupt? While I am of course an ever-adaptable super ex-student, this position may be better filled by someone else.

Pity this doesn’t seem to come with a wardrobe. I do look good in skirts.

Third Person Sample:
“If I might ask a boon, fair one!” Yuuya tipped his head winsomely to one side. “It says that if someone were to kiss me I might become human, briefly. Haha, I’ve never been human, but it sounds like fun!”

And it might help advance his knowledge of the species, to put it in clinical terms. Yuuya was generally in favor of humans - you didn’t become a Dove Party agent if you weren’t - but they were unquestionably strange people. What would it be like to bare thick spongy naked skin to the air? To have teeth and a flat flexible tongue? To stand stretched out and tenuous, to see such limited colors but snuff the air and read more from it? To manipulate things using appendages like toes, but softer? And all the rest, including those ludicrously vulnerable external genitalia. There was only so much that could be learned from the outside, or by asking people who had been like this all their lives.

He continued. “I am a gentleman dove, you know. Much more fun to kiss than a frog! And it comes without strings - just a kiss, nothing more. ...Unless that’s what you wanted.” Yuuya did not have a flexible mammalian face, but he could do something humans interpreted as a smile by opening his beak a little and holding his head in a particular way.

[personal profile] cavaliering 2014-01-04 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality:

The first and most consistent piece of Mitsuhide's characterization is that he is absolutely loyal. After all, that's part of why Izana assigned him to be Zen's retainer. Mitsuhide embodies this trait for the entire series, even soon prioritizing Zen's well-being and health and safety beyond everything, even his loyalty to Izana. He's forever loyal to Clarines and both Prince Izana and Prince Zen, but his loyalty to Zen is especially potent. He frets after Zen's well-being down to the mundane and minute details, making sure he has slept and eaten, worries about each cut and scrape the prince obtains and follows him like a very persistent burr.

This highlights another of his personality traits, which is that of an absolute mother hen. He is this role for most all of the cast (Kiki usually being the exception, as she needs no mother henning). He makes sure that they sleep, and eat, and take care of themselves. He's there to remind them that they have to stay healthy and well and he is quick to take youngsters under his wing (like Shirayuki) to take care of them as well. So long as they pose no threat to Zen, he is happy to take care of youngins who clearly don't know better. This, of course, makes him a very good retainer, as he not only protects Zen, but looks after every single aspect of his life, from his health to his paperwork.

Of course, with all of this, Mitsuhide is a naturally protective person. It isn't that he's suspicious--he'll never be rude or impolite to someone he has just met unless they've done something to call for it. But he is quite proficient in sitting back and watching someone until he is certain they're trustworthy. It's a retainer thing, and most prominent when Zen is around. He's far less concerned for anyone else, after all, including his own self; but that natural wariness is something that he's learned to have as a prince's guard. His own good nature is no reason to let someone untrustworthy get to Zen, after all. He would never be able to forgive himself.

Because Mitsuhide is good-natured. He's cheerful, most usually having a smile on his face, and he's always the one to try to lift people's spirits when the mood is grim. He's not easily brought down from his good mood, and he takes to tough tasks with a grin and an awful lot of perseverance. Because of this, Mitsuhide is usually the butt of the jokes of the group, but even though he acts offended and exclaims his embarrassment and offense to the sky, he's never really upset by these jokes. If they bring smiles to the group's face, he's content with that. And he very rarely holds anything said about him towards anyone. After all, if it was just a joke, it was just a joke. Easy enough to leave it at that. This makes for a good counterpoint to his partner Kiki, who is stoic and almost grim-seeming--but always quick with a quip about Mitsuhide that leaves him squawking. He does usually live a very cavalier and lighthearted lifestyle, though, rarely needing to pull out the serious face so long as the people under his care (especially Prince Zen) are safe and well.

Not to say that he doesn't have a serious face, because he absolutely does. When the situation calls for it, he can be as grim and serious as any knight. For the safety of his friends, his country, his princes and his partner, he will easily slip into a very serious mode indeed. Some things will never be a joke, and he will fight with everything he has to protect those things. Along those lines, he really does have a vindictive streak, especially towards those who have hurt Zen; he won't ever forget, and he won't ever forgive, and while he's much too disciplined a knight to ever go after them alone, he will watch them every second they are in his vision.

Mitsuhide is, after all, a knight. He's disciplined, he's determined, and he is good at his job. This means that for all of his good cheer and smiles, he's not afraid to do what needs to be done for the sake of the people he cares about. The biggest example of this is when he performs the finishing blow on the child who betrayed Prince Zen. He couldn't have been more than eleven or twelve--but it was what needed to be done to protect his prince, and so he didn't hesitate to kill him.

Overall, Mitsuhide is simply a very good-natured adult--a knight, with all that that entails, but old enough to be sensible and full of mother-hen-like traits. He is ridiculously hard-headed and determined, unshakeable when he wants to be, but usually he is simply a very pleasant person, happy to help out those who need it...so long as it doesn't interfere with his duty to Prince Zen who is, after all, the person Mitsuhide dedicated his life to.

History: Mitsuhide at the AnS wiki.

It's a little scant, so I'll elaborate as well here. (As a note: Mitsuhide's name has been romanized both as Mitsuhide Rouen and Mitsuhide Lowen by the translation teams. I'm going with the latter due to its more knightly sound.)

The Kingdom of Clarines is a flourishing kingdom. With its two well-loved princes, Prince Izana and the younger Prince Zen, the people of Clarines are taken care of very well. This is why Mitsuhide's dream was always to serve Prince Izana to the very best of his being. He worked very hard, becoming the best of the best of the swordfighting palace guard, at the young age of 17. And it seemed all of his dreams were coming true, as Prince Izana approached him now that he was the best of the best--

And asked Mitsuhide to be the guard of his younger brother, Prince Zen. Of course, Mitsuhide would and could deny his prince nothing, and he agreed to this assignment. Of course, Prince Zen was trouble. Quick on his feet and fond of slipping his guards to go play with his commoner friend, Zen didn't want Mitsuhide around--and particularly because Mitsuhide was ultimately working for his brother, not for him.

That struck a chord in Mitsuhide and starting his thinking that perhaps if he was going to serve Prince Zen as a personal guard, it should be for the purpose of serving Prince Zen.

OF course, he isn't given long to ponder that before Zen gets himself into trouble, in the form of being betrayed by that commoner friend, almost being killed by the gang he was handed over to. It was Mitsuhide and Prince Izana who ended up saving the young prince, with Mitsuhide being the one to strike the final blow against Zen's traitor friend.

It is at this point that Zen begins to accept Mitsuhide into his life, and it is at this point that Mitsuhide begins to devote himself solely to Zen, his prince.

FAST FORWARD SIX YEARS--doubtlessly filled with danger and shenanigans, to the present day.

Mitsuhide serves as Zen's personal guard, now joined by Kiki. She is his partner-in-arms, and they both fight to protect Zen. And Zen's safety and happiness are Mitsuhide's most important concerns, without a doubt. This is the guiding thought process for all of Mitsuhide's actions throughout the series.

And then canon happens...which is admittedly more relevant to Zen and Shirayuki's characters than Mitsuhide and Kiki's; the two of them remain consistent side characters throughout the main storyline, giving support to Zen and those who would serve him, threatening those that would harm him, and being comic relief when the moment serves (or, well, the good-natured Mitsuhide is, anyway).

Otherwise, they are simply very loyal knights and very strong partners, always making sure to do their very best in service to their lord.

Canon Abilities or Powers: Mitsuhide is a normal human, and as such, doesn't have any ridiculous powers. He is an extremely proficient swordfighter, having become the best of the palace guard at age 17, and undoubtedly keeping up that ability throughout the years.

Otherwise, he's good at being the butt of jokes.

Fairy Tale Role: The Servant in the White Snake
Fairy Tale Powers or Abilities: Due to eating the flesh of the white snake, the servant gains the ability to talk to animals--and also, due to his nature, to fret and worry about animals. So that will be what Mitsuhide gains. The ability to talk to animals and thenceforth forever be concerned for all of the ants people are stepping on.

Personal Items: Just the clothes on his back and his sword!

First Person Sample:

[The writing in the notebook is scribbled hastily, as if the owner hardly has any time to sit down and do it properly.

This is because Mitsuhide doesn't have time to sit down and do things properly, as he's the sort to need to sit at a desk to write in a book, and he's running around even as he scribbles.]

I'm very flattered that anyone would want me as their servant, but I already serve another lord! I'm happy I can help out, but surely there must be some mistake here.

If anyone would point me in the direction of Clarines, I would be very grateful.

[he doesn't write it, but oh is he thinking it--'Prince Zen has probably gotten in so much trouble by now." He even mutters it out loud.

...but right, writing.]

Though I would be happy to finish the tasks assigned to me before I go, of course, so please leave any information you have for me while I do these chores. You have my gratitude!

[Someone is much too nice...]

Do you play anyone in Myth Making?: Not yet, I don't!

IC
Name: Kiki
Canon: Akagami no Shirayukihime
Canon Point: Chapter 42, after she tells Mitsuhide about the promise she'd made with Zen
Age: It's never outright stated, but it's implied that she's close to Zen's age (19) and younger than Mitsuhide (23), so I tend to say she's 20.

Personality: If you're looking for someone bright and cheerful, who always has an encouraging word and who can be relied upon to light up any situation--

Then you're looking for the wrong person.

Kiki is, first and foremost, succinct. She doesn't bother to waste her words when she chooses to use them, though she's even more likely to favor someone with a glare or a look that's more or less You're Being Stupid. Half of the time, all she really has to do is stare at someone, and they get nervous. When she does speak up, she's deadpan and stoic, though that isn't to say she doesn't have a sense of humor. She's perfectly straight-faced when she suggests that one of the boys in the group cross-dress, when Mitsuhide speaks up against her disguising herself to get taken by pirates. She's equally calm when Obi asks what she did to get Mitsuhide upset and what her promise with Zen entails, and she tells him that to find out, he needs to hug his knees and say "Only cats would come close to me." She composedly suggests that Mitsuhide and Obi should marry and, on the whole, comes off as someone who doesn't get ruffled by anything or anyone.

Because that's truly how she is and how she lived. Kiki is accustomed to fighting her own battles and to doing it alone, and it isn't until she meets Zen and Mitsuhide that she learns that she doesn't have to always face things on her own. There are people who believe in her and want to face those things with her, and to protect her while still acknowledging that she's strong. Ultimately, it's what earns them her loyalty, and once someone's earned it, it's hard to lose. Kiki will always support Zen, whether it be with a sword or with her presence as one of his aides, just as she supports the girl he fell in love with by speaking encouragingly to her and willingly going into a den of pirates in order to find Shirayuki and to protect her. With Mitsuhide, although they're close to polar opposites at a first glance, they're capable of working together seamlessly, and Kiki will take an additional step with him. She entrusts him with her sword, she thanks him for protecting her, and even if she's pretty tight-lipped when it comes to her own feelings, she does speak with him about the promise she made with Zen. She understands him, telling Obi that Mitsuhide is probably one of the only people Zen will listen to. They truly are partners, and it shows.

Beyond that, she's a fierce fighter who takes no crap from no one, and the wrong pretty face to try to hit on.

History: Here, but to expand...

Kiki serves as the aide of the younger of the princes of Clarines, and has been doing so for five years now. Before that she was the daughter of an earl who befriended the prince and his aide, Mitsuhide-- although for awhile, Mitsuhide had no idea of her status or that she was even female. During those days, she trained with them both, until a man who had initially proposed to Kiki (and got rejected) challenged her to a duel, two-on-two, for her hand in marriage. However, Kiki was naturally a solitary person, reflecting that "I have to protect myself, by myself. Because, until now, all I had... was myself."

The duel itself might have gone poorly, being two-on-one, except Mitsuhide interfered and joined the fight with a request to Kiki that she let him protect her. Additionally, Zen called out that if she was still alone, he'd protect her too, and asked for her to come with him to his castle. To gain experiences and knowledge that would help serve her as the next head of her household, her father agreed to let Kiki serve Zen for the next six years.

Jumping ahead, Kiki was already by Zen's side when he met Shirayuki, and while she's been around, she hasn't been the major subject in most of the arcs. She does get more of a spotlight when Shirayuki is captured by pirates, and Kiki volunteers to be the one to also get "captured", so as to help her escape and reunite with the others when the time is right. Her next arc concerns her backstory, in which she tells Mitsuhide the truth about her agreement with Zen and how long she has left. Otherwise, she's around to support her prince, to tease Mitsuhide with a very flat expression, or to just be her serious, supportive self.

Canon Abilities or Powers: As one of Prince Zen's aides, Kiki is very skilled with a sword, able to more than hold her own in most fights and singlehandedly launching a surprise attack on a group of pirates when they presumed her captive. She's demonstrated prowess with a bow as well. Other than that, she's just an ordinary person.

Fairy Tale Role: The princess in The Bear
Fairy Tale Powers or Abilities: First and foremost, the ability to turn into a bear, capable of speech; while the fairy tale has this linked to putting on a bearskin, Kiki wouldn't do it, once she knew what it did, so I'd like the transformation to happen based on the situation. When she gets too annoyed or angry, she turns into a bear. It's doubly annoying because, much in the way the princess in the story can get beautiful dresses for balls, just even the thought of "wait what social function", should such a situation arise, will put Kiki in a sparkly dress.

And she will hate it.

Personal Items: The clothes on her back, and her sword. What else could she possibly need?

First Person Sample:

[ The handwriting is small and neat, easily legible, but there's not a lot of it. The author clearly doesn't have much to say.

Or, perhaps, just knows how to word it as concisely as possible. ]

I'm sure a lot of you find this quaint, but some of us have duties to return to, and none of those duties happen to include living here.

Or turning into a bear.

That being said, if anyone has any information regarding returning, I'd be happy to discuss things with you in further detail. Even your theories would be fine-- a start is a start.

Also, if anyone has seen a person with silvery hair, carrying a sword...

He's not important. Don't bother with him. In fact, it's fine to pretend he's not even there.

Do you play anyone in Myth Making?: Not yet, but also apping Kiki!

IC
Name: Kay Faraday
Canon: Ace Attorney Investigations
Canon Point: The end of Turnabout Ablaze
Age: 17

Personality: Kay is a teenage girl.

... Wait for it.

She's energetic and perky and is constantly distracted by shiny things that might quite possibly be valuable-- not that she'd actually steal them, of course, she just likes the idea of treasure. For all that she makes comments about being a great thief and stealing things (like national flags), most of that is just joking-- like when she tells Gumshoe that she's "stolen" his position as Edgeworth's assistant. As she's said before, the only thing she wants to steal is the truth, and she's very serious about the Yatagarasu's sense of nobility. To her, the one thing a thief shouldn't ever steal is a life, because "It's too heavy of a burden on your soul to get away with, ever." Having lost her father, simply because someone decided that he was an inconvenience, only drives that point home-- and of course she gets teary when certain things are mentioned, like meeting a girl who had also lost her father.

Not that Kay lets such depressing things get her down; she made a promise with her dad never to cry in front of strangers when she was a kid (which came into play only an hour after his death, in which she did her best to cheer up), and it's likely that her cheery outlook and NEVER SAY DIE attitude are in part because of that promise. She can be absolutely serious when she needs to be, but the majority of the time, she's bouncing from place to place, making chipper and cheeky comments about thieving methods, Edgeworth's great expressions and cool entrances/exits, and launching herself into things with unrivaled enthusiasm. One example of this is while investigating a murder case at the theme park, Kay remains aware that there's a contest to get a photo of all four Badger mascots for a fabulous prize-- and so whenever she sees one, investigating is put on halt while she rummages for a camera and happily exclaims, "Badger GET!" Even when she comes across Edgeworth after he's been kidnapped and tied up, her first reaction is not to fluster or fret, but to crack up over the face he's making. Her sense of humor is absolutely indomitable, and has apparently been present since she was a child (evidenced by purposely popping her balloon on a cactus to startle the detective keeping her company). She's not above fangirling either, with a specific love geared towards ninjas-- especially the Jammin' Ninja, a television star.

I've mentioned before that, for a thief, Kay has very strong morals, and this is an integral part of her character. She idolized her father as a hero who put bad people away, and honored her promises even as a little girl. It couldn't have been the easiest thing to staunchly hold back tears only a short while after her father's death, but she tried as hard as she could to keep that promise. Additionally, she was angry enough after the accusation reached her ears that Gumshoe had become the main suspect that she, a ten-year-old child, kicked a prosecutor in the back of the knees in order to 'defend' her new friend. She's sincere and honest, and though this mostly amounts to her telling Edgeworth that he needs to get more excited about things, it also means you will almost always know that when Kay says something, she means it. She's perceptive, commenting that she's seen into someone's heart, and just how lonely it feels. She's very much a heart-on-her-sleeve sort of person, and really only lies when it's absolutely essential justification-- such as bluffing in order to get Edgeworth some more cross-examining time with the culprit. Even in her observations about people and the story behind her father and the Yatagarasu, she doesn't hide much. Sadly, this means when she does encounter things that contradict her moral code, like learning the entire truth about the Yatagarasu, she has a hard time accepting it, to the point where she'll tearfully deny it at first. Kay takes things like trust and teamwork seriously, and nothing perturbs her more than betrayal, slander, and just plain being a bad guy. She may be a thief, but she's a noble thief, thank you very much, and she's adamant about establishing that the Yatagarasu only steals for the good of the general public and absolutely does not kill.

On a more quirky note, Kay also has a habit of giving people nicknames, which seems to have been cultivated as a kid. Gumshoe was "Gummy" (which stuck) and Franziska was "Whip Lady" (which, thankfully, did not, because Kay gained a sense of self-preservation). She also addresses Lang as "Wolfy" and becomes highly belligerent when he calls her "Crow-girl" because the Yatagarasu is a raven and so much better. Of course, anything that tarnishes the Yatagarasu's honor and reputation makes her indignant; she's very committed to carrying on her father's work. And this indignation can lead her into trouble, because Kay is reckless and it's fairly easy to kindle her fighting spirit. She's a smart girl (she saved and carefully preserved the perfume bottle belonging to her father's killer and offered it to confirm that identity later), and capable of being logical, but she also has her moments where she charges (or jumps) ahead (or below) without considering what comes after that. This ranges from jumping down a trap door instead of using a ladder to... illegally entering an embassy on the heels of a fake thief. It's true that her determination can be a strength, but when determination becomes recklessness, it can also put her life in danger.

In short, she's always ready to go and quite possibly the most honest and noble thief you'll ever meet.

... Never mind that she's actually never stolen anything yet.

History: FULL OF JUSTICE

Canon Abilities or Powers: She's a normal girl who has some proficiency with high-tech gadgets like the Little Thief and some working knowledge of the court system, thanks to not only working with a prosecutor, but being the daughter of one. She's quick to notice things, and is also the one to remind Edgeworth to take his time and think through things calmly, despite her nature of tearing around and going full throttle without fully considering her options.

Also, she's athletic, able to outrun a grown man (who may just be out of shape, admittedly), and to jump down from large heights without injuring herself. Suffice to say, Kay is a very active person, and it shows.

The ability to make a dramatic entrance, complete with cool speech, totally counts, right?

Fairy Tale Role: Robin Hood
Fairy Tale Powers or Abilities: Kay can now use a sword, a bow, and a quarterstaff, and will have gained a proficiency in disguises that she probably won't abuse because she's theatrical and confident enough to enjoy presenting herself as... herself. Robin Hood's nature is to steal from the rich and give to the poor, and Kay's attitude regarding that stance won't be changing a bit. Of course, she'll be highly skilled with a bow now, but it's not like she'll be running around shooting things with it. Hopefully.

Personal Items: Her bag, containing Little Thief, a coil of rope, a camera, and a book of matches. Also her clothes (obviously).

First Person Sample:

Hey, so wandering minds have started to wonder, and so I've decided to ask all you princes, peasants, and pied pipers a question! It's a very VERY important question, second only to HOW COOL WOULD IT BE IF THE JAMMIN' NINJA HAD A DINOSAUR COMPANION, so listen up!

... Read up? Maybe I should have shouted from the rooftops...

Anyway! I know I'm supposed to be Robin Hood, and I'm okay with that, except for one tiny thing...

It's the entirely wrong kind of bird! So don't you think it would be better if I was Raven Hood instead? I'd still help the masses and everything, but I've got to get the Yatagarasu a legendary reputation too!

Your thoughts? And no, OBJECTION doesn't count!

Do you play anyone in Myth Making?: No

IC
Name: Orihime Inoue
Canon: Bleach
Canon Point: Chapter 546, while training in Hueco Mundo with Chad
Age: 17 1/2

Personality:
At first blush, Orihime might seem a bit like a ditz. The side of herself that she chooses to show to everyone (particularly her friends) is happy-go-lucky, cheerful, helpful, and very friendly. She's overwhelmingly kind and fairly innocent and tends to invoke a protective response in those around her. This doesn't mean she's stupid or childish by any means; she's third in her class overall and can be quite pragmatic and creative in battle situations. But she does lack a certain degree of self-awareness and "street smarts" that might make it seem otherwise. She also has a unique appetite, often making food based on puns or just plain strange combinations (like honey wasabi ramen or egg parfait over rice or even mackeral bread - a pun on yakisoba bread, a popular Japanese fast food).

She has a vivid, overactive imagination that seems to be inspired a lot by television and those around her often see flashes of it at the oddest times. It seems to work faster than her mouth in a lot of cases - in one instance, she's asked by her best friend Tatsuki whether she's ever been to the park with their mutual friend Ichigo, and this ends in her telling herself to watch out because someone has a gun. It's not that Orihime automatically went park=>guns; she had a (somewhat) natural thought progression from being in the park with Ichigo, to racing Ichigo to the teeter-totter, to racing Ichigo in the Olympics, to winning the track and field competition, to winning the world heavyweight title, to an assassin in the crowd at the boxing match. Likewise, when her class is assigned to make pictures of themselves in "the future", Orihime takes the assignment figuratively instead of literally. Instead of drawing herself as she imagines she'll be in the real future, she draws herself in a Jetsons-esque robot-and-flying-car "future" as a hyper-destructive robot. It isn't that Orihime thinks she will really become a giant robot; it's that she imagined herself in a creative, "futuristic" way. This strange imagination also comes out with perfect comedic timing to break tense situations - for instance, during an argument between Ichigo and Tatsuki, Orihime interrupts them just to ask how her personal themesong should go. This just goes to show that she is not only somewhat self-aware of her personality quirks, but that she can use them at will.

When you look past the silliness and the overactive imagination, however, Orihime's inner self is much more down-to-earth and actually quite insecure. She's very critical of herself after she develops powers, especially. Her powers, the Shun-Shun Rikka, have three functions: healing, shielding, and cutting. Of these three, her most powerful ability is the ability to heal. However, that is often looked over in favor of more offensive abilities, and as such, Orihime sees herself as being less useful in battle than her friends. The actual truth of the matter could not be further from this; Orihime is invaluable to her friends as a healer, and has saved most of them from death or horrible injury at least once. These healing powers were even the premise Aizen, the series big bad, used to kidnap her (although his true purpose was simply to lure her friends into his base), because they not only heal, but can reverse any event that happened to an object at all. Still, Orihime has a tendency to be very critical of herself for not contributing enough to the offensive side of battle.

She doesn't like for her friends to see any of these weaknesses, though. In fact, in her very first story arc, she outright states that she didn't want her own brother to see her sadness or tears because she didn't want him to worry about her; the same logic applies to her friends. Any insecurity, fear, or doubt she has wouldn't come out often in interactions with other characters unless she really trusted them, so it won't be seen often by others. For the most part, those who interact with her will see a happy, somewhat dopey, very creative teenage girl.

Another facet of Orihime's personality that bears mentioning is her loyalty to her friends and the strength of their friendship. When her friend Rukia was taken back to Soul Society and Ichigo had doubts as to whether he should go get her back, Orihime was the one who talked him into it. And when she though that Ichigo might like Rukia for more than friends, even though Orihime was jealous, she took the burden and blamed herself for being jealous because of how much she cared for Rukia. And when Rukia was attacked and presumed dead in Hueco Mundo, Orihime screamed to be released from her cell so she could heal her. The first time her powers activated was because her best friend Tatsuki was in trouble; she stated then that she would never forgive anyone who hurt Tatsuki. And when Aizen's henchman, Ulquiorra, threatened to kill all of her friends, she willingly traded her freedom (and what she presumed would be her life altogether) for their continued safety.

Finally, Orihime's crush on Kurosaki Ichigo, the series protagonist, should be mentioned. Tatsuki points out that Orihime has a crush on him in her very first appearance in chapter two and this crush persists throughout the series until the present time. Although Orihime can let her imagination run away with her (for example, recently imagining Ichigo normally inviting her into his room as him being dressed in a host outfit and emitting sparkles), she has demonstrated that she can understand Ichigo on a personal level. Part of what gave her her powers was his own incredible spiritual pressure (in concert with the hougyoku, the series' resident MacGuffin), and the wish to protect him was what helped her learn to summon and use them at will. She can track his spiritual pressure when no one else can, recognize him by smell (and comments on this at least three times), and has outright stated that she loves him. Far from making her weak and dependent upon him and his power, however, this has inspired her to try and make her own spiritual powers more potent. In fact, her stated goal is to not look at his back in battle, but to try and fight side-by-side with him (this is also part of the reason she's so critical on herself for not being a better offensive fighter).

To sum up, at the point in canon Orihime is taken from, even though she still has some insecurity inside, she has mostly overcome her feelings of inadequacy and has become more confident in battle - confident enough to fight regular hollows side-by-side and go blindly charging into dangerous enemy territory with Ichigo and Chad. She eagerly runs to help Ichigo when she thinks he's been kidnapped, stands up to the two men who claim to have hurt her friend Ishida, goes without question back to Hueco Mundo to help Nel, and is proactive in checking on the group's mutual friend Chad when he goes missing for a brief time. She's still flighty and fun-loving, starting conversations about random things with Tatsuki and Ichigo, and still has her crazy daydreams. She's also achieved one of her stated dreams - to work in a bakery (part time, since she's still in school, of course). And she and Ichigo, Ishida, and Chad have all become closer friends than ever; they all share phone numbers and know how to get to each other's apartments. This is the Orihime others in Myth Makers should see - a fairly confident (at least on the outside), cheerful, helpful young woman with a crazy imagination and a taste for strange food.

Canon Abilities or Powers:
Orihime's spiritual powers, the Shun-Shun Rikka, manifest themselves as six different fairies who are all distinct parts of her personality. They can be summarized as follows:

Santen Kesshun: Three fairies - Baigon, Hinagiku, and Lily - form a three-pointed, glowing yellow shield. This shield can be broken with enough force, although it will usually take one hit before cracking and/or breaking.
Souten Kisshun: Two fairies - Shun'oh and Ayame - create a glowing yellow dome over an affected person or object to reverse any event which has occurred to it. This is usually used to heal or restore whole limbs or (in a few cases) nearly entire bodies.
Kouten Zanshun: One aggressive fairy - Tsubaki - can cut nearly any object and place a shield on either side of himself, effectively blowing apart what he's launched into. Since Orihime herself isn't very aggressive, and Tsubaki is the fairy least like her, he's not very strong. He's been badly injured and/or broken two of the three times he's been used in battle; fortunately, after his last accident, Orihime was able to have a friend restore him to life for her.
Shiten Koushun: The three fairies of Santen Kesshun defend while Tsubaki redirects whatever force was used against Orihime back at the attacker.

Fairy Tale Role: The Daughter from The Flower Queen's Daughter
Fairy Tale Powers or Abilities: In keeping with the spirit of the role, Orihime's powers will be in line with plants, flowers, and spring/summer. She should be able to make flowers and plants grow, or make fruit ripen more quickly. She'll also be a really snazzy dancer, for reasons she can't quite figure out.

Personal Items: Just her hairpins and the clothes on her back - an ankle-length skirt and a comfy sweater.

First Person Sample:

Dear Diary,

First of all, I'm really sorry! I know I shouldn't be writing in you, since you're not really mine, but I just can't help myself. I looked very hard for your owner! I really did! But anyone I asked about the Flower Queen's daughter just laughed at me and patted me on the knee and told me to do a good job. Although they might mostly have been patting me on the knee because they were talking bunnies and gnomes....

You don't think that's weird, do you? It feels kind of funny, writing about things like talking animals and tiny people, because no one will come tell me that I'm being silly or imagining things. I definitely didn't imagine them! I even touched their hair and picked them up and turned them upside down, although in hindsight that was probably kind of rude of me. Maybe I should go find them and apologize. Or maybe if I catch a special one, he'll lead me to a pot of gold!

That's it, Diary! I have to go find more of those little people and ask them if they have any magical powers! I'll come back and let you know how it went later!

Third Person Sample: Here! (I was originally going to do Persephone from the Origin of the Seasons, but realized upon going through comments to the FAQ that I couldn't do that one)

IC
Name: Lucille
Canon: Ningyou Kyuutei Gakudan (Grand Guignol Orchestra)
Canon Point: Opus 15. Quatuor Mosaiques II
Age: Unknown. Canon states that for him, "time has stopped" so it's possible that he might be a lot older than he looks. Appearance-wise, I'd place him in his early 20s.

Personality: For someone who's as beautiful as Lucille (and really, people often doubletake upon seeing him the first time), his personality takes a 180-degree turn. Sure, he's a directionally-challenged guy who seems really sweet, very nice and a little bit of a tease. But when he feels like it, he turns into a type of guy with an attention span shorter than a five-year-old and a trolling capacity worth of several bullies. His temper is quick to flare (an unfortunate trait pointed out several times by his own ill-tempered companion) and he's never one to hold back when he just wants to be rude and say something to your face. He's bossy and pushy, condescending and demanding, traits that he's had since he was a young boy. He acts like a spoiled brat as well, easy to complain and throw tantrums when things don't go his way. He's crafty and sly, using whatever means necessary to get what he wants. And on top of that, he's notoriously greedy, performing only when he gets paid for it. Heck, he's even willing to be mistaken for a woman (something that he finds really, really gross, mind you) just for the money.

Looking beyond that however, one would notice that the smile and warmth that Lucille exudes never really reach his eyes. As Eles had once put it the first time they had met, Lucille's smile resembles that of a guignol - doll-like and fake. And Eles drives the point on from there. That despite his happy-go-lucky smiles, Lucille is the best actor you can ever find, always wearing a mask of "sincerity" and rarely showing his true emotions. He dislikes being asked questions that requires having to show said emotions and once the topic turns to him, he easily avoids it, dismisses it then moves on. He likes to twist his words, to confuse people, to feign ignorance and stupidity if needed. He remains unfazed, even laughing and cracking jokes in the most dire of situations. And then, there's that darker, colder side of him that's even more terrifying: a Lucille that easily hates, that turns callous and unfeeling, cruel with his actions and words.

And still, all of that is a façade.

Much of this stems from Lucille's own fears and insecurities as well as the events in his past. He's a person who's surrounded and tied down by death and he, in one of the scenes, has even expressed that he's well-loved by the Death God. Seeing his own sister transform into a beautiful and horrific monster, being unable to save her and his own subordinates, forcing his hand to kill his own men as mercy - Lucille bears all of this weight by himself, acknowledging them as his own sin, to the point that he even allows himself to be framed for a crime that he's never made. That's how much he regrets everything. Hence Lucille can smile and lie and push people away so easily for their sake. Because this is the only way to prevent them from getting hurt because of him. Because this is the only way to save them. By becoming a person completely detached from the world, who can easily cut his ties without looking back, he can hide his own feelings.

Which simply proves how deeply Lucille cares about his companions (and for the most part, people). He becomes a self-sacrificial martyr, going to great lengths to protect them and letting himself take the brunt of the backlash. He's willing to place his life and dignity on the line for his companions, especially for Eles whom he sees as the group's salvation. He leaves Eles behind with Spinel to protect her from his sister. He considers Kohaku and Gwindel as comrades despite their differences, willing to disband the Orchestra so they wouldn't be charged the same crime as him. He continues to regret what had happened to Berthie but can't really patch things up with him, given the fact that the latter keeps on trying to kill him. He falsifies information sent to the Queen to save a town from complete annihilation. He uses the Black Oratorio not to destroy but to let the guignols experience their last moments as human beings. Lastly, he still believes in his sister, even after all the shit she's put him through, and still wants to save her through and through.

Despite his amazing ability to lie with a straight face, there are moments when he speaks out his sincerest feelings. Most of these moments are with Eles and with Cordie. The former because of Eles' purity and because, while admittedly they've been using her in some form or another (Berthie once mentioned that Lucille merely sees her as a replacement for his sister), she represents hope that a person like him can still be saved. Which is why Lucille tries his hardest not to lie to her when it comes to certain things and why, even though he understands it completely, it hurts him at times when the young girl would begin to doubt him. The latter, on the other hand, is due to the massive guilt he has for being unable to save her. Because Cordie believes that Lucille betrayed her, he does his best to make her trust him despite knowing that it's most likely never going to happen again.

As a chanteur, Lucille takes so much pride that the songs he sing at least are something people can believe in. If there's anything that Lucille loves the most in the world (other than his sister and Eles), it's music and it's one of the reasons why he continues to sing even in the desolate world he lives in. That, and to keep his existence from losing its meaning, the one thing Lucille fears the most.

History: Here's a link to the wiki or a write up.

Canon Abilities or Powers: Okay, first. Let me explain what Lucille is. And I apologize in advance for the length of this section because sigh, it's just complicated.

Lucille is a philomela. Philomelas are rare individuals who possess angelic voices capable of destroying and affecting both human beings and guignols. Philomelas are also completely different from castratos. Where castratos are castrated using a scientific/medical method to retain or acquire their angelic voices, philomelas are born without a clearly defined sex. They have no gender (biologically speaking) to begin with BUT they do acquire it, influenced by their development and psychological state as they grow up. In Lucille's case, his gender hasn't fully manifested yet during the series but he does identify as a male throughout the entire thing and by the end of the canon, with the neutralization of the Galatea virus, he takes on a male form to the point that his own voice deepens.

But what does it mean, Sele? It means that it doesn't just end there because Kaori Yuki hates people and straightforward things. It's said that Lucille and his sister, Cordie, are also clones of the original Queen. Amongst the many ones that were created as spares, only he and Cordie survived. What does it mean? It means that Lucille's been most likely modified to become a proper vessel for the original Queen. While it doesn't really specify what kind of modifications Lucille might have had, one such thing would be the "eternal youth" that only those in the royal family possess. It's also possible that this enhanced his ability as a philomela, which would explain why his voice is more powerful and beautiful than any philomela in existence. It isn't as powerful as Cordie's whose voice can literally kill people but it does have some effect on the body such as sapping of strength or power and paralysis.

Moving past that and back to his abilities, Lucille (since I'm taking him mid-way in canon) doesn't only look like a female - he also sounds like one. I wouldn't describe his voice as completely high-pitched but feminine in a way that it's flexible when it comes to the range and octaves it can reach. This is why most people mistake him for a girl at first impression.

When Lucille also sings, the wind blows and the birds gather around him. He is a literal Disney princess in his world. His voice, while at times dependent on the song he sings, affects guignols in various ways: from attracting them to destroying them completely to restoring their sanity for a few moments until they die. It's also powerful enough to reach far distances once he's "attuned" himself. His song once managed to spread across an entire walled city, yep. This ability gets even more amplified with the use of his tuning fork and while it's not clearly explained in the manga how, he seems to use the tuning fork (or the sound it produces) as an offensive attack or ability.

Other musical abilities include playing the piano, perfectly singing a song only after listening to it once and a very sharp sense of hearing. Complete genius, this one is.

Musical and crossdressing prowess aside, Lucille's a rather capable fighter though he does leave most of the fighting to his orchestra members instead. He's also pretty intelligent and very quick on the uptake; in fact, they leave much of the intelligence-gathering, infiltration missions and spying to him. Brute strength was never his forte.

Fairy Tale Role: Scheherazade (One Thousand and One Nights)
Fairy Tale Powers or Abilities:
» STORY-TELLING. Basically, like Scheherazade, Lucille will have to tell stories. Every sunset until sunrise, he will be forced to tell stories (any story) to anyone who will listen even if he doesn't want to. There are a few details to this ability that are best explained through bullet points.

• To reflect the events of the story where the Persian King postpones Scheherazade's impending execution to hear the conclusion the next day, no harm can befall on Lucille as long as he's telling or narrating a story. Any attempts to harm or kill him will be met with some kind of resistance, whether it's a voice telling that person not to kill him or their bodies simply moving against their will.
• If he completely stops at any point in time during the evening, the resistance disappears and it's a free-for-all game.
• If Lucille manages to perform his role as a story-teller for the entire evening, the person/people/what-have-you he's told stories to will be compelled to "spare his life" for the day. It's just limited to that person/people however; anyone else can pretty much maim him for the day.
• The story has to be told orally. Telling the story via written means or through the journal doesn't count.

Personal Items: The clothes on his back, the Black Oratorio (recently stolen, yay) and his tuning fork.

WANTED!
PEOPLE WHO WOULD LIKE TO HEAR STORIES

Really, I'm getting desperate here to the point that I'm tempted to find the nearest cat or dog or duck and tell it a story. Except I think I've already told at least one story to every cat, dog and duck wandering around. Anyway, I have no idea why I'm still writing in this very dire time when I could just be using this time to find an unwilling victim BUT if you're interested in hearing a story, any story, please look for the fancy mansion covered in gold and silk just outside of town.

Ask for Lucille. Or She Schee Scherawhatshername. The day I can spell that name is the day I accept that identity. But that's what these people call me anyway. Free food and lodging for the evening to the first five people who come over. Usually you'll have to pay but for once, I'm doing it for free.

P.S. Where's the biggest library in this town or country or kingdom and is it all right for me to take all of the books home?
